Banks Are Still Willing to Lend to Trump March 9, 2022 at 2:03 pm EST By Taegan Goddard 76 Comments “A bank’s decision to loan Donald Trump’s company $100 million is the latest evidence the former president might survive fraud investigations and a business-world backlash over his efforts to stay in office after losing the 2020 election,” the AP reports. “San Diego-based Axos Bank finalized the loan with the Trump Organization on Feb. 17.” “That’s just three days after public revelations that the Republican’s longtime accountants had disavowed a decade’s worth of his financial statements amid allegations by New York’s attorney general that they had exaggerated his wealth.”

Paying dues: party card is just the ticket for media giants – Michael West Media

Once again, the big four, the banks, lobby groups and the biggest industry players lined up to pay their dues to political party coffers. Even media companies got in on the action with Network Ten and the Nine Network each paying $27,500 for silver memberships to the Liberal Party. In 2019, Nine came under fire for a now infamous $10,000-a-head fundraiser for the Liberal Party at their Sydney headquarters. Since the 2015-16 financial year, Nine has donated $213,706 to the Liberal Party and $139,963 to Labor. The Liberal Party did not disclose the $27,500 contribution from Nine despite exceeding the $14,300 disclosure threshold.

As the army joins the flood clean-up, locals wonder why help took so long

clean-up floods

Staying true to form Peter Dutton deflected any criticism away from himself and ineffect placed it on the ADF by saying “I’m just not going to cop criticism of the ADF,”. Proving he has risen to be Australia’s worst-ever Defense Minister. Private helicopters flew into areas Dutton said were too difficult for the ADF. Food and supplies trucked in to where Dutton said it was too dangerous. What Dutton did say was “go fund yourselves”!!

Lismore and other flood-affected communities have stepped up to manage their own clean-up, with many accusing the army of not doing enough to help people who have lost everything. On Sunrise, Davie Koch (‘Kochie’) latched on to community anger by accusing Defence Minister Peter Dutton of organising too little, too late. “God help us. If we were going to war, we wouldn’t stand a chance if it took this long to get organised,” Kochie said on Tuesday morning. “What’s going on? Why aren’t they there quicker?”

Although there were only 760 pairs of boots on the ground at the time of the Tuesday morning interview, Mr Dutton pledged 5000 personnel in the coming days.

“I’m just not going to cop criticism of the ADF,” Mr Dutton said.

New flood assistance fund announced for Kooyong | The Shovel

Kym Strow and her wife Sarah Jones in their Lismore home. Strow says people need a leader who gives support and hope. ‘People sure as fuck shouldn’t have to ask for it.’

Morrison’s stop in Lismore turned out to be yet another very, very controlled photoshoot. Promises along with his “it’s not my fault and stop blaming the ADF” didn’t fool anyone. Lismore and other flooded areas were told by Peter Dutton to “go fund yourselves” and they did. Helicopters flew in where Dutton said it was too difficult for the ADF. Supplies were trucked in when the mud army knew government aid wasn’t coming. Charity, was forthcoming where emergency government funding wasn’t to be seen and as usual, the Morrison government was MIA. All they were doing was damage control in front of cameras.

All this was a result of the L-NP’s years of stripping the Public Service of any ability of coordinated action and handing it over to private contractors for their generous support of the government’s L-NP fighting fund.

The prime minister was met with anger and protest on his visit to the flood-ravaged NSW town, and didn’t stop to shake hands

In a week when war raged, the climate denialists fumed. Just ask Tony Abbott. – » The Australian Independent Media Network

Rachael Withers in The Monthly

“Writing in The Wall Street Journal on Tuesday (Murdoch’s American Masthead) (and dutifully republished by The Australian), former PM Tony Abbott joined the raft of commentators trying to link Russia’s invasion to a “weakened” West’s obsession with social and environmental issues.”

Withers continued:

“He went on to criticise all three members of AUKUS for their focus on reducing emissions, implying that it was this that had emasculated the West (along with globalisation, “cultural Marxists”, COVID restrictions and the fact that you couldn’t even make Monty Python’s Life of Brian these days).”

(His camp follower)

Herald Sun columnist Andrew Bolt never to be left out of a bit of truth bashing, was not far behind ( simply paraphrasing) what he’d said

“… the war in Ukraine has exposed the lethal danger of falling for green myths … Russian president Vladimir Putin would never have dared invade Ukraine if the green movement hadn’t first made Europe look helpless,” he added.

All Abbott ever does when he enters the realm of serious discussion is highlight the fact that he was grossly unsuitable for the office of Prime Minister of Australia. However, the most pressing matters regarding climate action came out of all this unworldly nonsense.

Western Sympathy for White Ukrainian Refugees, while ignoring, demonizing Palestinian Refugees from Israeli Aggression

Putin uses Israeli propaganda to justify his war against Ukraine. ” I’m defending Russia and it’s people from a hostile force,” The West says nothing when Israel does it but is united when Russia does. There is a sickening double standard at play here.

When Occupied Palestinians protest the attempt of government-backed Israeli squatters to invade their homes and steal their land, it is reported in the European and US press, if it is reported as all, as “clashes” between Palestinians and Israelis, as though both sides were equally to blame. Or reporters hint around that Palestinians have an innate tendency to terrorism. In the below clip the BBC characterizes the “clash” as over “a hilltop,” as though Palestinian-owned land were a joke. No one asks, what are Israelis even doing in the Palestinian West Bank, much less stealing more land from its owners?

The balance sheet of this enterprise is a poor one, and risks becoming more wretched. Tangibly, AUKUS has shown Australia’s diplomacy to be subservient and shoddy, alienating its European Indo-Pacific ally while also being laughed at by the United States. (President Joe Biden showed much contrition to Emmanuel Macron by suggesting, disingenuously, that the Australians should have told France earlier.) Even if these plans firm up in time for electoral exploitation, it will not clarify when these beasts of the sea will actually emerge from the cocoon of the imagination. In decades, the armchair strategists and naval cocktail circuit will be feasting over other prototypes and ways to burn money from the public purse. The Australian nuclear-powered submarine will be a comical relic, the butt of many a joke.

Frydenberg’s ASIC squeezes $1 billion profit from the public

When announcing the industry levy, ASIC said it was to ‘recover the regulatory costs of the ASIC through annual levies and fees-for-service’.

Last financial year, ASIC collected $314.5m via the industry levy — almost three-quarters of its $437m total operating cost.

The Federal Government’s record-breaking $1.078bn profit from ASIC came in the same year that ASIC’s two Federal Coalition-appointed executives were forced to resign in a major expenses scandal.

Both ASIC chair James Shipton – a former senior executive with notorious global investment bank Goldman Sachs – and Daniel Crennan QC, a Melbourne barrister, were illegally paid almost $200,000 more than they were entitled to.

Treasurer Frydenberg announced a “review” into the scandal, but, as previously revealed, he released a doctored version of the subsequent report, from which three-quarters of its key findings had been secretly deleted.

Despite the severity of the situation – a cover-up of corruption at the top of the corporate regulator involving the nation’s Treasurer – not one other media outlet has reported the scandal to date.

The war in Ukraine has nothing to do with “wokeness”, you’re just a right-wing nutjob | The Shot

Andrew Bolt actually posted on his blog that Wokeness just might win the war against the conservative Russian army. What he’s unable to say however, is that Putin, in who he actually believes, is on Bolt’s side of righteousness in the current culture wars. Putin, like Bolt, is anti- LGBTQIs, anti-multiculturalism, anti- critical theory, anti- feminist , is a racist, a religious discriminator, and an ultra-white Christian Nationalist. You see Bolt is totally anti-Woke and so pro-Putin. So are Tim Smith, Tony Abbott, the LNP, IPA and News Corp

Wokeness is just the newest boogie man hiding under the bed of every conservative commentator. But like all boogie men, if you shine a light on them, you quickly find out there’s nothing there. All you’re left with is a frightened child with an overactive imagination who’s too scared to go to sleep.

Russia’s Leverage over Israel in the Ukraine Crisis

Although the U.S. gives Israel billions every year, Tel Aviv either declines to or has been unable to offer the U.S. very much in return. It may offer some intelligence, but it was the Syrian Kurds and the Iraqi Shiites who helped the US defeat ISIL, for instance. Article continues after bonus IC video WION: “Israel PM Bennett holds talks with Russian President Putin & Ukraine President Zelensky amid crisis” Only after vigorous US lobbying did Israel even decide to vote against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine at the UN General Assembly. The US also convinced Israel to lobby the United Arab Emirates, which has extensive business ties to Russia, to vote against Moscow, as well. It is possible that the far-right Bennett also is wary of the precedent of boycotting aggressor states who invade and occupy their neighbors, since most of the world views Israel’s seizure and occupation of the Palestinian Territories in 1967 in the same light that they view Putin in Ukraine. Anyway, a vote at the UN General Assembly is pretty toothless.

Putin will prevail if good people do nothing

Trump is treated same way. Why is it we continue to constatly talk and allow people like Putin ,Kim Jong Un and the other varieties of dictators to simply get away with harm in the expectation something will change? Insanity has been defined as repeating the same actions with the expectation of different outcomes, and we do just do it time and time again.

Putin’s evil has prevailed because good people have not been able to do anything. The list of Russian dissidents is long and the circumstances of their demise have always been chilling. The poisoning of Alexander Litvinenko, the assassination of journalist Anna Politkovskaya, the poisoning and gaoling of opposition leader Alexey Navalny and the assassination of Boris Nemtsov — former Deputy Prime Minister and liberal opposition figure, who had expressed his fears over Putin’s “plans to kill him” over his opposition to the war in Ukraine. Yet the West has continued to have dialogue with him. We have underwritten him. We have underwritten his corruption.

Twelve more things revealing Australia’s poor economic management

There is plenty in last week’s quarterly national accounts that the Coalition Government does not want voters to discover, as Alan Austin reports. THE SHARE of Australia’s income going to workers is now at an all-time low. The big corporations are getting the highest share ever. These are two pretty important facts that the Morrison-Joyce Government and the mainstream media – who are all big corporations – want concealed. They are well-hidden in the extensive files published last Wednesday by the Bureau of Statistics. But they are there.

Morrison plans east coast base for nuclear powered submarines

Prime Minister Scott Morrison.

Is Morrison announcement an American decision?  A $10Bn base plus ongoing payments to house and rent their submarine fleet and manpower?  We have already spent $3bn just planning, advertising and cancelling ours and got absolutely nowhere other than destroying our relationship with France. Is it any wonder Morrison has never been seen as a man of action just a stumble bum?

Mr Morrison will note there would be economic benefits from the submarine base that would also be used by visiting nuclear-powered US and UK submarines. Among the criteria set for the location of the base, Mr Morrison will say its proximity to a large population base so as to recruit and retain a substantially larger uniformed submarine workforce.

Doubts raised about Dutton’s proposed submarine plan

Peter Dutton publicly questioned the mental health of a former Australian Border Force commissioner.

Dutton can’t deploy the ADF efficiently to Aged-Care or the Flood Disaster but he can Plan for War? Should we believe this man who promises to “Keep us Safe” while he and Morrison want to make the east coast of Australia a target for a nuclear attack? The LNP proposal of  a $10bn Nuclear Sub base on the east coast of Australia is to house and man rented American Nuclear subs because we,sure as hell won’t have even one until 2040. Guess given the current floods on our East Coast there’s plenty of  parking space for them.

How many times in 9 years can you change plans for “our defense” and have any defense? All this energy and money already spent has gone to waste. All for the sake of the L-NP’s domestic political posturing and not a cent spent the people. This is exactly what Putin has been doing to Russians,  We are being treated like mushrooms. It’s Morrison’s favorite presser is to say ” I can’t awnser that. It’s National Security matter”

MORRISON & McKENZIE ARE BOTH BULLSHITTING ABOUT THE FLOODS !

Today Ben Fordham interviewed Morrison. Fordham asked for confirmation of Bridget McKenzie’s figure of 5,000 ADF on stand-by. He then said he heard that only 455 personnel were on the ground in Northern NSW and asked where the rest were.

Morrison replied “ah well, no the figures are higher than that Ben”. He added that 2,000 were on stand-by on the ground in both NSW and south east QLD.

After further probing, it turns out the 2,000 were ‘deployable’ by the States,

As usual, Morrison hand-balled the problem to the Army – he said “what we’ve done is we’ve put Brigadier General Galloway in as head of a task force for deploying ADF Support staff.

He even gave it another of his customary ‘feel-good handles’ – Operation Flood Assist! Really? Bit of a misnomer if you ask us! We would have thought the flood needs no help at all – but our communities do! Once again, Morrison just does not get it. Nor does he care.

To clarify matters, we checked the Defence Department media centre (as of this morning) for the truth. Here are some facts that Morrison and McKenzie should have known:

Total personnel deployed on task in QLD: 1378

Total deployed on task in NSW: 512 (pretty damned close to Ben Fordham’s 455 & proving the PM wrong again)

The Defence Dept also have a day-by-day list of tasks planned for both States. This sort of detail seems beyond our Federal Ministers and definitely beyond the miserable ramblings of the NSW Premier Perrottet this morning.

All in all, Fordham’s interview was far from revealing on anything important, full of Morrison bullshiza and illustrated quite clearly after all these days, that our northern citizens can not rely on anything practical or sensible from either Government. Once again, it is our emergency services and volunteers who will shoulder the burden alongside their community brothers and sisters.

We can only hope that our emergency services are enhanced and adequately equipped and supported in the future. Lord knows we will need them – and we wont have to wait 100 years!

Buying an electric car, though, and pressuring Congress to pass legislation to green our electricity grid, improve mass transportation, and discourage gasoline vehicles, would actually over time devastate oil prices and leave Putin with fewer resources to launch attacks on his neighbors. Using significantly less gasoline would cause oil prices to fall and deprive Putin of his bonanza. We’d produce less earth-wrecking carbon dioxide. And we’d save lots of money on gasoline. We can save ourselves in three different ways all at once with electric vehicles and electric commuter trains.

A second attempt to evacuate civilians from a besieged city in southern Ukraine collapsed Sunday as Russian attacks stopped plans to create a humanitarian corridor, a Ukrainian government official said, and Pope Francis called for an end to the “rivers of blood and tears” created by the war. Food, water, medicine and almost all other supplies were in desperately short supply in the port city of Mariupol, where Russian and Ukrainian forces had agreed to a 11-hour cease-fire to allow civilians and the wounded to be evacuated. But Russian attacks quickly closed the corridor, Ukrainian officials said.

The lesson here is straightforward: Everyone who wants their country to improve should feel free to engage in sincere, accurate criticism of their government’s actions. It is both inevitable and irrelevant that it will likely end up sounding similar to criticism of their country by foreign “enemy” governments. And those who claim the similarity discredits the internal critics should be ignored like the propagandists they are. Bill for NSW and Qld flood damage now at $1.2b and rising fast

The LNP government signed the country up for the equivalent  cost of x8 of these disasters and at the time claimed they were cheap. 8 Submarines at only $80Bn was nothing but now when the estimated cost of flood damage in two states is $1.2 Bn it’s a disaster. It’s the cost of a single sub. So shouldn’t that money be easy to find  just cancel one sub. After all delivery isn’t expected until 2040 and the flood damage could be attended to immediately. That National Disaster Fund is $4.5 Bn  only returns 5% interest or $200 M of which the L-NP are so proud. Cancel 4 subs the fund would have $9Bn at 10% the average rate of return of an Industrial Super fund they’d have almost a $1Bn to spend. So much for their money management.

Premier Dominic Perrottet will visit the devastated northern city of Lismore, with six people dead as a result of the NSW floods disaster and insurance payouts expected to soar into the hundreds of millions. The cost in NSW alone is now more than $240 million, according to the Insurance Council of Australia, while estimates taking in Queensland claims as well peaked over $1 billion on Friday.

Medicare fraud by providers is rampant and government bulk-billing figures are a ‘lie’, review finds | Health | The Guardian

A comprehensive review of Medicare claiming has found a primary cause of illegal billing is ignorance by health care providers.

Faux says the government is turning a “blind eye” to illegal billing and that the bulk-billing statistics presented by officials are a “lie”. “Bulk-billing statistics have become nothing more than a powerful gaslighting tool because they make us think we must be imagining out-of-pocket medical costs,” Faux said.“The more we continue to believe this lie, the more we are contributing to Medicare’s slow demise, and sending our own out-of-pocket costs further up.”

The report on Faux’s findings have been sent to the auditor general’s office and the health minister. Faux said most of the time the illegal billing activity flies under the radar because very few people check their Medicare records, and even if they did, most would not understand what they see. A common example of illegal billing she sees is patients having to pay a fee, despite their records saying they were bulk-billed.

“Can we get a round of applause for Russia?” asked Nick Fuentes, on stage last week at a white nationalist event. Amid a roar of applause for the Russian president, just days after he invaded Ukraine, many attendees responded by shouting: “Putin! Putin!”

Russian Oligarchs Are Hurrying Their Jets and Yachts to Safety. America Is Letting Them. – Mother Jones

While Putin is “doing it” the West merely “postures”.

It shouldn’t be difficult to seize—or at least freeze and hang onto—the wealth Russian oligarchs have deposited in the West. After all, a mega-yacht is hard to miss, and private jets, some of the most valuable assets that can be purchased, can barely move across an airport taxiway without being directed and tracked by air traffic controllers. Earlier this week, France did manage to seize the 290-foot Amore Vero, owned by close Putin associate Igor Sechin, but it was one of the few oligarch-linked items taken since the war started.

Putin: Ukraine May Lose Statehood ‘If They Continue Doing What They Are Doing’ | Newsmax.com

“The current leadership needs to understand that if they continue doing what they are doing, they risk the future of Ukrainian statehood,” Putin said in Moscow, according to The New York Times. “If that happens, they will have to be blamed for that.”

The statement comes amidst Putin tightening state control over information. It is unclear how much information the Russian people are receiving about the war.

During Putin’s meeting, he also likened Western-imposed sanctions as actions “akin to a declaration of war.” The statement marks an escalation in rhetoric.

Russia’s Invasion of Ukraine Is Not Just a Crime. It’s Also Wildly Irrational.

Very little about the horrific war that Russia is waging against Ukraine seems based on solid calculations by Vladimir Putin. It’s hard to imagine the war benefiting Russia in the long run. Why, then, is Putin waging it?

Putin’s stark similarities to Stalin: 5 key connections explained | Politics | News | Express.co.uk

Graphic about Vladimir Putin

There is a major error in describing Putin’s “Extreme Patriotism of the State” the term Patriotism generally refers to the ” Love of People” for whom Putin has and shows no regard. Extreme Russian Nationalism more accurately describes Putin’s obsession with the State which controls it’s people. Even that when closely examined he’s bent, twisted, warped to his blinkered KGB and steroid full view of  Russian and Soviet empire.

VLADIMIR PUTIN in recent years has drawn strong comparisons to ex-Soviet Union dictator Joseph Stalin. But what are the parallels between the two?
