Suharto’s US-Backed Coup in Indonesia Supplied a Template for Worldwide Mass Murder

Australia’s LNP Government fully supported the action and then took us to Vietnam

Under the leadership of Sukarno, postcolonial Indonesia was an optimistic country finding its place on the world stage. Suharto’s 1965 coup drowned that experiment in blood, with US politicians and media cheering on his campaign of mass killings.

Pwc, George Orwell

While they hunt down Robodebt victims for every penny, PwC pays no tax, rakes in billions for consulting to government, quietly runs a sweatshop in Sydney’s West and has even jagged a grant to tell the government who should get grants. Michael West has an answer to lift a pound of flesh from Australia’s biggest leaners. Even Aldous Huxley and George Orwell, with a jar of LSD, could hardly have brainstormed a future so dystopian as this.

PM seeks expanded powers to boot criminals

deport criminals coalition

If judges act according to the law and you don’t like their judgments. simply change the law. Further evidence the Morrison government has no regard for human rights. so if anyone is charged for civil disobedience say protesting against the government they can be deported if “foreign born” or “deemed a risk”. Morrison’s justification ” judges aren’t doing what Morrison wants”. Meanwhile Immigration in the past 8 years has become a total mess with a backlog of 330000 applications. We need to make sure we can “punt them out”. Given asylum seekers are already “deemed illegals” and aren’t of “Good Character”. It would seem Morrison wants no recourse for any appeals like the Biloela family detained for over 12 months.

Morrison’s Motive is clear however his definition of “objective laws” vague.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has called for the need for objective tests to be able to deport foreign-born criminals convicted of serious offences. The Coalition government is planning to reintroduce laws to parliament on Wednesday that would close a loophole to migration character test laws. Under the proposal, visas for non-citizens will be refused or cancelled if they’ve been convicted of a serious crime that’s punishable for more than two years in prison, served less than 12 months in prison or are deemed a risk to the community. Mr Morrison said judges in deportation cases had often handed down lesser sentences to get around existing character test laws to avoid people getting deported. “Judges are handing down sentences which enables people to get around this, and we need an objective test,” he told Sydney radio station 2GB. “We want to make sure we can punt them.”

Visa backlog a sign of weak border control

Morrison’s distraction is the Bill to “punt people out”. It’s bringing back a cherry he knows “Border Control” He’s des[erate for difference as the ALP are stealing the ground from under him. It’s not his fault the law doesn’t protect the family from the domestic violence of aliens, non Australians, refugees and asylum seekers. Judges are protecting them and they need clearer guidance and not be able to make any “subjective or sympathetic decisions”. Like the boats and like Trump he is the only one to keep us safe  and “punt them out” Meanwhile Immigration is in a state of collapse.

Despite all its tough talk on border control, the Government is overwhelmed with a backlog of visas that has built up over the years. Dr Abul Rizvi reports. WHEN BRIDGING VISAS were first introduced in the early 1990s, around the same time as mandatory detention and ministerial discretion, the expectation was that the number of people on bridging visas in Australia would rarely exceed 20,000 to 30,000. That we now have over 330,000 people on bridging visas in Australia is indicative of a visa system in gridlock — paralysed to a degree no one anticipated.

Australia Post boss Lucio Di Bartolomeo defends $170,000 bonuses for highly paid staff

The five employees who received retention bonuses in 2020-21 were all male, with one working in the executive team while the other four were senior managers.

Morrison’s silence is thunderous in its absence and his hypocrisy blinding. But then he gets a woman to protect him,yet he doesn’t do the same for women. He’s “focused”. He was when he said Christina Holgate needed to be sacked for $20,000 bonuses. But he’s allowed the men at Australia Post to simply give him the finger

This marks a stark contrast with the $20,000 spent by former chief executive Christine Holgate on Cartier watches for four senior employees in 2018. Ms Holgate resigned in November 2020 as a result of the watch controversy, which was fuelled by Prime Minister Scott Morrison condemning her actions on the floor of the Parliament.

Australia Post has defended rewarding highly paid staff with bonuses averaging almost $170,000 last financial year, with five senior employees receiving additional sums to keep them from being poached by a competitor.

A Senate estimates committee on Tuesday heard one senior Australia Post staff member would receive a $500,000 “retention bonus”, to be paid over three years, on top of his salary and annual performance bonus.

The Media’s Breathless Shoplifting Coverage Ignores the Misery That Drives Theft

Petty individual crimes are headlined in our News. Meanwhile, the systemic nature of crime is ignored. The reasons individuals are driven to crime aren’t explored. attention to property and physical crimes ignores the biggest of af all crimes and the widest damage done. What drives individuals and corporations is significantly different. How and the extent they are  policed and punished is too.

Corporate media is running constant, sensationalized stories about shoplifting — while ignoring the food insecurity and generalized desperation that is driving many people to shoplift.

Donald Trump | The US Capitol Riot on January 6, 2021 (Photo illustration by Salon/Getty Images)

Trump couldn’t wait to respond. To respond to what he thought of Putin and how terrific and clever a leader he was.

“I think he has a great way. He’s a leader. He’s sharp. He’s at the top of his game.” Trump said with love in his eyes.

He continued, “Our guy was never at the top of his game. You could go back 30 years ago, he wasn’t at the top of his game.”

Now, more than a year after the attack on the Capitol, there is a mountain of evidence that confirms what was obvious at the time, and even before: Trump’s coup attempt was a highly coordinated nationwide effort, whose ultimate goal was to overthrow multiracial democracy and install Trump as de facto dictator. Ultimately, the Republican Party’s embrace of fascism as a now-indispensable part of its identity should not be a surprise. This devolution was years in the making. In a recent essay for the New Republic, Michael Tomasky summarizes this:

Trump Organization’s accountants cut ties, calling years of filings unreliable | Donald Trump | The Guardian

Mazars said the accounts it had prepared from 30 June 2011 to 30 June 2020 could ‘no longer be relied upon’.

Donald Trump’s longtime accountancy firm cut ties with his business last week, saying that nearly a decade’s worth of Trump’s filings should “no longer be relied upon”.

The move comes amid ongoing criminal and civil investigations into whether Trump illegally inflated the value of his assets.

Donald Trump New York attorney general alleges Trump firm misled banks and tax officials

In a letter to the Trump Organization dated 9 February, William Kelly, US general counsel of the accountancy firm Mazars, said Trump’s financial statements for the period 30 June 2011 to 30 June 2020 “should no longer be replied upon and you should inform any recipients thereof who are currently relying upon one or more of those documents that those documents should not be relied upon”.

Mazars added it would no longer “provide any new work product to the Trump Organization”.

Labor leads Coalition 55-45 in latest Newspoll as Greens slump

newspoll scott morrison

Support for the Coalition and ALP has not changed in the latest Newspoll despite Prime Minister Scott Morrison experiencing a week to forget in Parliament. Surveying 1526 voters nationally between February 9 and 12, the exclusive poll for The Australian newspaper released on Sunday night found the Coalition’s primary vote remains on a record low of 34 per cent as Labor continues to peak on 41 per cent. But a three-point slump for the Greens (11 per cent to 8 per cent) and a corresponding rise in support for independents and minor parties to a record 14 per cent left the two-party-preferred result at 55-45.

When trouble strikes call Jenny Morrison — but what does she stand for?

Jen rejected Grace Tame but preferred her Qanon besties instead and even employed them, so we have been told. Qanon isn’t known for being “polite” or truthful. Grace is and wasn’t being paid to “help”. We do know that 60 Minutes generally pays for comment. If they didn’t have to pay Scott and Jen in this instance and got a “freebie” Might that arrangement be called a “political donation”?

If the prime minister’s wife is going to play a role in the nation’s affairs — including advising Scott Morrison on how to understand the impact of sexual assault on a young woman by imagining it was one of his girls — then it seems only fair to know what Jenny Morrison brings to the job. If Jen Morrison is to be a de facto member of the cabinet, what are her qualifications?

Ann Arbor (Informed Comment) – Ghada El-Gendy, the Executive Director of the Arab Renewable Energy Company, said Friday that Egypt has plans to increase the share of renewables in its electricity production to 42 percent by 2035. At the moment, most of Egypt’s power plants run on methane gas or petroleum, and only 12.5 percent of the country’s electricity is from renewables.. Egypt is has one of the highest potentials in the world for solar power production, given that it is sunny most of the time.

Morrison has no answer. So he hands it over to the JEN MASTER at Peter Costello’s behest.

What does Scott Morrison stand for? He would say he stands for freedom of religion. But this week he proved incapable of delivering a legal protection for it.

He would say he stands for the protection of school kids from discrimination. But this week he showed he was prepared to allow transgender kids to suffer discrimination.

He would say he stands for a united government. But this week the government suffered a mutiny when five Liberal MPs crossed the floor of the House of Representatives to vote with Labor and the crossbench.

Morrison’s apology derails rape trial – » The Australian Independent Media Network

Yes it’s foot-in-mouth Smirko again doing what he does best and “fucking ” things up one day and then doing it again the next while saying “I didn’t do that”!!

Yet again many of us are asking ourselves, is Prime Minister Scott Morrison thoroughly ill-intentioned, or merely driven by blindly arrogant stupidity and incompetence? That we are forced to ask this question almost daily is in itself a serious indictment of the man, regardless of the answer. Of course, he could quite easily be both. Many of us who heard Morrison’s apology to Brittany Higgins in Parliament earlier this week were alarmed when he named the alleged victim of an alleged rape which is due to go to trial in June. The PM’s apology has been described by a leading defence barrister as without foundation, as the allegations have not yet been tested. There is now considerable doubt that, as a consequence of Morrison’s apology, a jury can be struck in the ACT where the trial is due to be held.

Scott Morrison’s week went from text revelations, to a failed bill, to a ukulele solo. These are the dying days of the 46th Parliament – ABC News

Scott Morrison stands with his eyes closed.

Morrison’s “Action-Man Plan” is  calling in Jen and the kids and playing the ukelele while getting his advisors to poll and prepare new list of “Gunna Do” promises to announce like he did before the last election. Ones that never got done like ICAC and waiting for Clive to “donate” millions and preference him.

The PM may be hoping that playing the ukulele on 60 Minutes on Sunday, and unleashing his “secret weapon” — his wife Jenny — will offer one last desperate chance for a reset.

Like everyone else, politicians have private lives. Unlike everyone else, increasingly they have been sharing these with us during the course of their work. Brittany Higgins made a powerful statement during her address to the National Press Club about Scott Morrison’s response to allegations that she was raped in a minister’s office. “I didn’t want his sympathy as a father… I wanted him to use his power as Prime Minister. I wanted him to wield the weight of his office to drive change.” Scott’s concerned dad persona wasn’t going to cut it.

Morrison’s Migration Act is cruel and compassionless

Who Scott Morrison is, and who he wants us to see him as. The Sell and the Product

The Australian Senate needs an education. The Australian nation needs to know. We must carry hearts and souls to the truth. Once in the know, the Australian people and the media can galvanise governments to do what is right — the common good, understand human rights as universal. I fight for as many as I can because I remember those who took their lives rather than be deported.

A few years ago, a 22-year-old former Iraqi refugee was to be deported. He was a young father of two living in Sydney. For alleged minor offences, he was detained at Villawood Immigration Detention Centre. One night, he was flown across the continent, away from family to Yongah Hill Immigration Detention Centre. He wasn’t supported and died by suicide. The detainees burnt Yongah Hill. I assisted the grief-stricken family. I organised their legal representation. They are suing the Commonwealth Government. But this will never bring back the young father — a life needlessly lost because of cruel policies. If there’s a Heaven, the so-called Christian-faith-based members of the Morrison Government will have a lot of explaining to do or be purgatory-bound.

From “Crack Pipes” To “Critical Race Theory”: GOP’s 2022 Midterm Strategy Is Overt Racism | The Smirking Chimp

American Racism isn’t just political posturing it’s real, it’s systemic, and it’s here to stay as far as the Republicans are concerned!!

There are still eight months to go before the election — so this is probably going to get much worse. Republican leaders are desperate to change the subject away from the January 6 insurrection and the Big Lie, but Trump and his base are obsessed. Racist hysterics about “crack pipes” serve as a distraction. But this blunt racism is also about justifying Trump’s coup and ongoing efforts to steal the next election. The constant drumbeat of reminders that white supremacy is under very real threat from a multiracial democracy helps keep the GOP focused on why it is, exactly, they are organizing behind what has turned into an anti-democracy movement. Time to invest in anti-nausea meds, because Republicans are committed to this tactic of overt racism, clearly convinced it’s the key to winning the midterm elections.

Trump Committed Crimes When He Took ‘Top Secret’ Files: If Prosecution Is ‘Politicizing the Law’ — Then He’s Above It | The Smirking Chimp

Fox News in 2016 declared “America Cared about Hilary’s emails” in 2022 they are saying “Nobody Cared about Hilary or now Trump ”

The Republicans stand to benefit twice from their persecution of Hillary Clinton. They reaped the political benefits of a frivolous investigation in 2016. What’s more, that investigation was so obviously frivolous and malicious that it has discredited the whole idea of prosecuting high-ranking elected officials for misusing classified information. Trump might actually get away with stealing classified information because Republicans have made this kind of investigation synonymous with a political witch hunt. The laws against mishandling classified information have teeth for a reason. If laws governing the handling of classified information become a dead letter, the Republicans will have struck another grave blow against the rule of law.

Nauru detention centre operator makes $101m profit – at least $500,000 for each detainee | Nauru | The Guardian

This is an insult to all Australian taxpayers.

The company behind Australia’s offshore processing regime on Nauru made a $101m profit last financial year – more than $500,000 for each of the fewer than 200 people held on the island.

Rard No 3, the holding company for Canstruct International, which has the government contract to run the Nauru offshore processing centre, has more than $340m in cash and investments, according to its most recent accounts filed with the corporate regulator.

When Canstruct International was initially awarded the Nauru contract in 2017 the company had $8 in assets.

Can we believe the great news on unemployment? Yes and no

So for several decades, the bureau has supplemented the official unemployment figures by also publishing the number of people underemployed – those part-timers who’d prefer working work more hours. The latest figures show an unemployment rate of 4.2 per cent, plus an underemployment rate of 6.6 per cent. Thus it is true the official unemployment rate of 4.2 per cent isn’t as good as it looks. It does understate the proportion of people who aren’t able to find as much work as they want.

Trucks with Fox News written on them

Fox News’ vocal support for the far-right trucker convoys in Canada, which began in opposition to vaccine mandates for operators crossing the U.S.-Canada border but has since expanded to oppose all public health measures, has revealed Fox’s hypocritical stances on vaccine and testing policies, as well as protesters who block roads.

But now another key angle has been exposed: While, in the past, Fox opposed advances by organized labor, demeaned unions, insulted striking workers, supported companies over unions, opposed higher wages for workers, and falsely blamed unions for supply chain troubles during the COVID-19 pandemic, the company is now egging on this labor shutdown — which not only sabotages other workers, but was not authorized by any union or democratic process in the first place.

Meanwhile, over at Nine, the Morrison spin machine is in top gear with an “at home with the Morrisons” piece on 60 Minutes coming up. “After [one of] his toughest weeks in the top job, the prime minister fights back with his secret weapon,” says the promo. “Sunday on 60 Minutes: can Jenny Morrison save her husband’s career?”

When in strife, call the wife. That, it would appear, is the Morrison maxim. Jenny Morrison was a hit on the campaign trail last time around. And this time Jenny is an even more potent weapon: Albanese, of course, is a man sans wife and school-aged kids.

Third ally turns on Morrison

All show for dough in Murdochville

News Corp columnist David Penberthy says he thinks many Australians regard the Prime Minister as “expendable”. “The bigger danger is that he hasn’t looked… More from federal election news and photos How ScoMo’s pact with rebel MPs backfired How ScoMo’s pact with rebel MPs backfired ‘Staggering’: ScoMo roasted for ukulele stunt ‘Staggering’: ScoMo roasted for ukulele stunt Dutton causes parliament to erupt Dutton causes parliament to erupt Sky News host Peta Credlin has lashed Prime Minister Scott Morrison, pleading with him to “do better” or abandon his chances at the next election. In an opinion piece for The Australian, Credlin said Mr Morrison needed to give voters “a reason to vote for you” and said the performance of the Liberal part was leaving people “politically homeless”. “The government that’s going into this election is almost unrecognisable from the one elected in 2013,” Credlin wrote. The former Liberal staffer said the actions of Mr Morrison had led to a lot of “disillusionment among many Liberal supporters”, especially on policy related to lowered taxes and more support for big businesses. “There’s no big political party that’s rock-solid for lower taxes, smaller government and greater freedom, plus support for the family, small business and the institutions that have made this country what it is,” she wrote.

Morrison’s misogyny continues despite apology

For Morrison “Style is Meaning” ” “Seeming”  more important than “Doing”

Despite his apology in Parliament, Scott Morrison has not changed and continues to behave in the same toxic and misogynistic manner that he always has, writes Hayden O’Connor.

* CONTENT WARNING: This article discusses rape

As recommended by the Jenkins Review, on Tuesday, Prime Minister Scott Morrison delivered an acknowledgement and apology to those who have been victims of bullying, sexual harassment and assault whilst working in our Federal Parliament. Apologies are nice but actions speak louder than words and Scott Morrison’s actions continue to prove that he is a heartless, self-centred misogynist. The Prime Minister’s words are at best meaningless, at worse complete lies and his apology is simply a calculated political decision. (POSTURING)

Federal election 2022: Does the Religious Discrimination Bill put Scott Morrison’s leadership at risk?

The attacks on Scott Morrison are coming from all sides of his party.

Will he call an early election to avoid the embarrassment of a spill?

The attacks on Morrison are coming from all sides. Moderates feel misled over Morrison’s promise last December to protect transgender children in religious schools when his draft law this week but his decision this week to drop that element from the religious freedom package. Conservatives see the conflicting positions and wonder whether the Prime Minister stands for anything.

Nothing to show for Morrison after week of self defeat

morrison

It has been more than 3000 days since the Coalition government first took power. And in the dying days of the 46th Parliament this week, we saw a government that had not so much gotten lost along the way, but no longer seemed like it ever had a reason for being in the first place. Scott Morrison has been promising to achieve two concrete policy objectives since he attained the Prime Ministership more than three years ago. The first was a law clarifying the boundaries between religious and personal freedoms in Australia and the second was to create a federal agency to crack down on government corruption. But at the death of his first full term as Prime Minister, Mr Morrison was able to combine two signature policy proposals into a singular blunder and end the week farther behind than he began.

A koala joey is sitting in a eucalyptus tree surrounded by leaves and twigs

The Australian government has officially listed the koala as endangered after a decline in its numbers due to land clearing and catastrophic bushfires shrinking its habitat. The environment minister, Sussan Ley, accepted the recommendation of the threatened species scientific committee that the koala populations of Queensland, New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory should have their conservation status upgraded.

Malcolm Turnbull and Peter Dutton

Now if only he could start a war! Our biggest ship is broken down and stranded in Tonga. Dutton’s purchased 121 tanks for domestic use and presumably to be used against us. He’s the man from the Monkey Pod Room who would be PM. China please help Australia and keep us safe from Dutton because sure as hell heaven won’t.

‘Reckless and desperate’: Malcolm Turnbull savages Peter Dutton for claiming China is backing Labor Former Liberal prime minister says defence minister has undermined national security ‘purely for crass political advantage’ Malcolm Turnbull and Peter Dutton Malcolm Turnbull says Peter Dutton’s ‘proposition that Anthony Albanese is under influence of the CCP is ludicrous – it’s just a sign of desperation’.

Peter Dutton has doubled down on controversial claims China would like Labor to defeat the Morrison government at the upcoming federal election despite Malcolm Turnbull warning such “reckless” comments had “no basis in fact” and harmed Australia’s national security. The defence minister said on Friday there was “no doubt in [his] mind” about what he described as a “statement of the obvious” regarding China’s preference of Labor. He claimed he based Thursday’s inflammatory allegation on “open source and other intelligence”. The Morrison government, struggling in the polls, is increasingly seeking to weaponise its perceived advantage on national security issues before the 2022 election
