New IPCC report shows Australia is at real risk from climate change, with impacts worsening, future risks high, and wide-ranging adaptation needed

Peter Dutton runs a Go Fund Me Campaign for flood victims in order to try to save the Government. That’s standard for an IQ like his.

Climatic trends, extreme conditions and sea level rise are already hitting many of Australia’s ecosystems, industries and cities hard. As climate change intensifies, we are now seeing cascading and compounding impacts and risks, including where extreme events coincide. These are placing even greater pressure on our ability to respond. While the work of adaptation has begun, we have found the progress is uneven and insufficient, given the risks we face. These findings are from our work as co-authors of the new Australia and New Zealand chapter in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change 6th Assessment Report on Impacts, Vulnerability and Adaptation, released today.

Vladimir Putin makes renewable energy security an urgent no-brainer

renewable energy

At a time like this Morrison bought and stored our emergency oil deposits in Texas and said renewables aren’t his priority. Meanwhile families are paying for his lack of forward planning and action. A tank that cost $80 is now nearing $160. He should have his photo taken next to a bowser!!

1.7 million barrels of oil, purchased last year, is stored in Texas while we now scramble to build more domestic storage, and this comes after years of the International Energy Agency warning us that our stocks had fallen below safe levels. It took the Coalition government well into its third term to find a solution that depends on tanker availability to deliver our stocks from America during an international crisis. The extent of our oil dependence is enormous. It costs $29 billion in annual imports to keep Australia moving and yet we have readily available an abundance of renewable energy sources in solar, wind and hydro. The Coalition government not only dragged the chain on fossil fuel security, but its decade-and-a-half-old internal power struggles over climate change has been a major obstacle to implementing a speedier transition to electric transport. Who can forget Scott Morrison ridiculing electric vehicles in the 2019 election campaign?

Ukraine Seeks To Join EU As Round Of Talks With Russia Ends | HuffPost Latest News

In this photo taken from video provided by the Ukrainian Presidential Press Office, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy speaks to the nation in Kyiv, Ukraine, Sunday, Feb. 27, 2022. (Ukrainian Presidential Press Office via AP)

Will Putin now invade Finland as Stalin did in 1939 because they are now too, considering joining NATO?

An embattled Ukraine moved to solidify its bond with the West on Monday by applying to join the European Union, while the first round of Ukraine-Russia talks aimed at ending the fighting concluded with no deal but an agreement to keep talking. Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy posted photos of himself signing the EU application, a largely symbolic move for now that could take years to become reality and is unlikely to sit well with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has long accused the West of trying to pull Ukraine into its orbit.

Americans Shocked to See Ukrainians treated Like Iraqis even though they are White (Not the Onion)

If Ukranians came by boat would Morrison “turn them back”?  He’s already guaranteed they can “jump the queue” over and above Afghanis that fought for and with us. He’s already calling Ukrainians “refugees” and not “illegals” or “Asylum Seekers”.

Some European and American commentators on Russia’s war against Ukraine have covered themselves in shame by implying that because Ukrainians are “European” or “civilized” it is harder to see them hit by artillery and made refugees than it had been with regard to Iraqis or Syrians. While in 2015 Syrians and Afghans who came to Europe were called “migrants” and were seen as a dire problem, Ukrainians fleeing their country for European states have been welcomed and called refugees. But the Syrians were also fleeing a war, and from fall of 2016 were even fleeing the same Russian bombers that the Ukrainians are.

Donald Trump Slammed After Claiming Credit for NATO, Arming Ukraine

Donald Trump

Former President Donald Trump met with sharp criticism on Monday after he released a new statement taking credit for the success of NATO and claiming to have helped arm Ukraine.

Critics of Trump quickly condemned this statement, noting his historic opposition to NATO and pointing out that his administration previously withheld military assistance from Ukraine in order to seek information on Joe Biden.

Multiple National Security Bills Facilitate Dutton’s ASD Domestic Target Wet Dream

Morrison's security Bill

Peter Dutton is Australia’s wanna be Putin ex-KGB officer.  Peter Dutton never really an ex- cop he is one in the very worst of traditions. A liar, thug and domestic spook he doesn’t serve his electorate it serves him. .

Home affairs minister Peter Dutton also refuted the claim but said the ASD spying internally was a good idea. He then appeared on the ABC in July 2019 to again deny the proposal existed but also suggested it would be advantageous and the nation should have a “sensible discussion” about it. Dutton was dismissing the claim a second time, as the month prior to his appearance, the AFP had raided journalist Annika Smethurst’s home in relation to her publishing the content of the leaked documents. This was an attempt to catch the whistleblower, as well as to send a warning to all. But most of the confusion around the proposal that obviously was being discussed by the two departmental secretaries was put to an end when Dutton told the ABC in early 2020 that the Morrison government’s plan to turn the ASD on its own citizens was almost to fruition. So, two years later, the question is, where is Dutton’s promised ADS domestic spying regime? Well, if you thumb through a few recently passed pieces of federal national security legislation, you’ll find it’s already in action and it’s expanding.

The perils of politicians praying in public

The challenge of professing to be a religious politician professing adherence to the Judeo-Christian faith, their responsibilities are clear. They must always tell the truth, serve the poor first and foremost, redistribute wealth from the rich to the poor, welcome migrants and refugees, prosecute those who engage in corruption and refrain from self-aggrandizing attention-seeking. If ministers live by these teachings, there will be no question about the validity of their religious faith.

Morrison roasted after British broadcaster’s ill-timed happy snap

This week, last week, no matter what week, Morrison gave 45 minutes of his personally very busy, and valuable time to Murdoch’s new star, and employee to be, on Sky News Pierce Morgan. Morrison had no time for the women of Australia who wanted to meet with him last year. He was “too busy”. No time for Brittany Higgins, and only forced time with Grace Tame which he wished never happened. There was plenty of time for his own 60 Minute Show being glorified by wife Jen of course.

Scott Morrison showed proof positive that he was subservient to Rupert Murdoch his puppet master but always the, lights and cameras. “Are you ready Mr  Morrison Lights Cameras action”  He’s our own  political Gloria Swanson totally self-interested and absorbed with no time available for his constituents unless they’re useful extras in one of endless photo-shoots.

The happy snap sparked an immediate barrage of criticism online. That prompted a hasty clarification from Morgan that the photo – despite being posted on Monday morning – was actually taken last week.“Here’s me with Labor leader & wannabe PM ⁦Anthony Albanese the night before. Both meetings occurred before Ukraine invasion & Queensland floods… so cool your indignant jets, Oz media,” he followed up later on Monday.Morgan and Mr Albanese reportedly met at a Sky News bash last week.

The First Casualty – » The Australian Independent Media Network

If truth is the first casualty of war, it is also under constant attack in the Morrison-Joyce regime’s love-in with spin enabled by Murdoch and a media oligarchy who help the Coalition demonise China and Russia, “shape the narrative” of foreign affairs, to distract us from its terminal, internal disunity and its own catastrophic incompetence.

Shout? You can hear him in Beijing. Or Kharkiv.

No-one will ever teach Morrison that it is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt. Not that he cares just how awful he is with his harangue of the Opposition Leader for “being a small target” “or just small”?

But it won’t be his reducing of Question Time to howling abuse, that decides this election, nor will it be his despicable treatment of women, particularly his office backgrounding against Brittany Higgins and Grace Tame, although that could play a big part.

It is unlikely that any of Morrison’s chest-beating posturing on foreign affairs, reciting US talking points, will convince anyone that a PM who can’t control his own party is a strong man who will keep the nation safe. Nor will the happy family man fantasy even begin to atone for the leaked texts which reveal how much he is reviled by his party including his deputy PM.

The decider could be the sixteen billion dollar election war chest. Unless, of course, voters worry where the money’s coming from.

Vladimir Putin sits atop a crumbling pyramid of power | Vladimir Sorokin | The Guardian

A mural depicts a hypothetical Time magazine cover that portrays the face of Russian president Valdimir Putin with a birthmark on his head in the shape of Ukraine, referring to the birthmark of Michail Gorbachev.

Who’s to blame? Us. Russians. And we’ll now have to bear this guilt until Putin’s regime collapses. For it surely will collapse and the attack on a free Ukraine is the beginning of the end. Putinism is doomed because it’s an enemy of freedom and an enemy of democracy. People have finally understood this today. He attacked a free and democratic country precisely because it is a free and democratic country. But he’s the one who’s doomed because the world of freedom and democracy is far bigger than his dark and gloomy lair. Doomed because what he wants is a new Middle Ages, corruption, lies, and trampling on human freedoms. Because he is the past. And we must do everything in our power to make this monster remain there – in the past – for all time, together with his Pyramid of Power.

How can Russia, a country scarcely any richer than Australia and far less legitimate, get away with what it’s doing?Look at this chart of GDP in Russia and Australia. They are essentially on par with us — perhaps more when oil revenues are high, less at other times. Russia is not a big force in the global economy. Like us, it has few global brands that matter. Like us, it exports some raw materials. The way it is unlike us is you don’t see us destabilising the global economy by launching cruise missiles at our neighbours.

Russia-Ukraine conflict: Australia will slap direct sanctions on Vladimir Putin. In fact, the Minister is seeking advice from the department

Marise Payne, Foreign Affairs Minister, speaks about Australia’s personal sanctions against Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

‘He has lied, deceived, fabricated’: Australia to slap direct sanctions on Putin

Let’s not take things at face value too quickly Marissa Payne. John Howard, along with Bush and Blair, lied, deceived, fabricated, and took us into Iraq. The Americans allied themselves with Osama Bin Laden to get the Russians out of Afghanistan and install a puppet government. Weren’t they doing what Putin is? Or is Putin doing what is the American norm. Under the Monroe Doctrine and the “Domino Theory”, they ” took care of their interests” anywhere on the planet?

Finland is a Socialist Democracy bordering Russia but is not declaring it wants to be a part of NATO. It’s not threatening or being threatened by Putin or being invaded. It too historically was once a part of the Tsarist Russian Empire. The Russians took missiles to Cuba and there was an immediate and imminent threat of nuclear war as a consequence America has sanctioned them for over 60 years.

What seems significant is that governments that aren’t “servants of their people” and lead from the top down all suffer the same disease the paranoiac fear of the personal loss of power. The very opposite of any real Social Democracy, any real democratization of power. When the shit hits the fan they then ask why didn’t the people do anything? Where do Morrison and Albo lie on that continuum of power, servants of or servicing Australian citizens?

Australia will look to impose direct sanctions on Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, while Australia’s top diplomat Marise Payne has left the door open to the possible expulsion of Canberra-based Russian diplomats. Senator Payne said Putin was being targeted because he was “personally responsible for the deaths and the suffering of innocent Ukrainians”. Putin shunned by world as his hopes of quick victory evaporate | Vladimir Putin | The Guardian

Placard with face of Vladimir Putin.

Vladimir Putin was facing growing international isolation and the prospect of pariah status on Saturday night as long-term allies dramatically turned against him following the invasion of Ukraine, and western nations planned further decisive military and financial action against Moscow. As his hopes of a quick victory evaporated in the face of fierce resistance by Ukrainian soldiers and armies of citizen volunteers, Russia’s president was deserted by his key ally, China, and had his ultimatum demanding Kyiv’s surrender defiantly brushed aside by Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy. In perhaps the most striking development, Germany announced on Saturday night that it would supply Ukrainian troops with 1,000 anti-tank weapons as well as 500 Stinger missiles from its own military reserves.

Ukraine: Three decades after the Cold War, back to open conflict

It’s surprising just how quickly politicians ask when civilians on both sides to find an answer when politicians created the problem in the first place and not civilians.

Helmut Schmidt, a Social Democrat West German Chancellor, possibly exasperated, reportedly said Russia was the “Third World with missiles”. It highlighted the vulnerability to economic pressure, ill-matched with high-end technology, including war technology and the world’s largest nuclear arsenal. It might take nervous awareness of that danger and hard times to bring civilians on both sides – whether Russians with no money, Europeans unable to get fuel for the last weeks of winter – to bring on the pressure, if only they can, to end the conflict.

Federal election 2022: Will wage growth play into the polls?

This is what is meant by the expression ” Wagging the Dog”. A totally manufactured and produced hi-viz photo shot accompanied by a totally fabricated fact, a lie about the NSW train strike on TV and in the media. Solely designed to turn Morrison’s dwindling chances of an election win around. Morrison and his team must have watched the 1997 movie “Wag the Dog” starring Di Niro and Dustin Hoffman who showed them how to come back from the dead.  It was about a failing President’s (PM) election chances needing to be  turned around in 11 days by the application of Fake News. Morrison has been mirroring the same tactics to a tee. Should anyone of Morrison’s media production team reveal the truth they too might go the way of Dustin Hoffman in the end.

There is a Murdoch/Russian Coalition in America and a Morrison /Murdoch one here. Will it be ignored and kept under wraps?

The Russian invasion of Ukraine is a disaster for more than 40 million people, a threat to Europe, a challenge to the US and a catastrophe for the world. It’s hard to imagine that Vladimir Putin’s war, while just about as far away from Australia as any world event could be, would have no bearing on the thoughts of voters in the expected May election. And it’s clear we were already gearing for a security election.

The Coalition has installed one of its head-kickers, Peter Dutton, in the Defence post and his warnings are as much about the dangers of a Labor government as any foreign foe. The government has stooped to describing Labor leader Anthony Albanese as China’s preferred Australian leader and deputy Labor leader Richard Marles as the Manchurian candidate.

Last November, Defence Minister Peter Dutton hounded Shadow Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong, charging her with “not standing up for [Australian] values” in comments on the China-Taiwan dispute. This week, News Corp has targeted Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese after the Chinese Global Times offered him some backhanded compliments. A video also emerged of Albanese speaking Mandarin at an economic summit, and he was found to have participated in a forum for Tribune, newspaper of the defunct Communist Party of Australia. (This interview, it should be noted, was 31 years ago.) Such claims have long plagued the progressive side of politics. Since the first news of the Bolshevik victory in the 1917 Russian Revolution reached our shores, fears of Australia following Vladimir Lenin’s lead have been used and abused by conservative politicians for electoral gain. But, how successful have these “moral panics” been? And do they still pass muster with today’s electorate?

Russia-Ukraine: How Scott Morrison will use crisis to shape 2022 federal election outcome

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison talking tough after Russia invaded Ukraine.

1% of the global sanctioning of Russia by Australia is a flea on an elephant’s back. The bellowing roar is however is for Morrison’s political sake folks. Our 1% only as a global emitter of CO2 was his excuse for doing nothing about being one of the biggest exporters of carbon. He wanted to be as quiet as a church mouse. That again has been for his donors interests and his domestic political sake. His even bigger silence at present is not to sanction but to reward Rupert Murdoch whose media org Fox is the biggest Putin lover and Russian propagandist in America and that silence is also for Morrison’s own political sake. Because as I write he’s dishing out a share of his current advertising war-chest of $680M on News Corp, Foxtel and Sky News. The Putin lover Murdoch’s are in fact the LNP’s media voice in Australia and he has the gall to call Albo “a Red under the bed”!

As Russia’s attack on Ukraine unfolds dramatically, Australia is in the choir stalls, not centre stage, when it comes to the West’s response. But Scott Morrison is determined its voice be loud. His denunciation of the Russian “thugs” and “bullies” has been cast in the most forceful language. After announcing sanctions on Wednesday, he assured Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal that Australia, working with its partners, was prepared to do more.

Scott Morrison

Not a word that Morrison’s media ally Rupert Murdoch is in America supporting Trump and Putin or that Morrison continues to follow GOP policies down the autocratic road. His cultural war on trans-gender children is straight from the GOP playbook. Meanwhile those he aligns with are actively supporting Russia.

The Australian prime minister has promised “further waves of sanctions” against Russians including hundreds of members of parliament as he condemned Vladimir Putin for the brutal and unprovoked invasion of Ukraine.
