His evidence was continuously in conflict with that of others before him, quiet’ sharply at times. He denied he knew-was told that this new method of debt collecting was illegal from the start or at least five years before the courts reached that conclusion

Really, as the Minister of three departments, overlapping robot debt over time, “nobody ever told him.” Couldn’t lie straight in bed is a term Australians often use.

He then got stuck into those public servants he thought should have told him but didn’t for whatever reason.

New election study shows need for proportional representation – Pearls and Irritations

Australian Democratic Election vote concept with national flag.

When in a two Party System geared not to change Capitalism but who better to improve it is called Democracy the winds of change blow strong. The ALP and Albanese are no Whitlam government. Our systems and patterns of behaviours generationally handed down are no longer fit for purpose just or equitable and Australians are increasingly calling for them to be changed and changed progressively not regressively. Maintaining the status quo is no longer being asked for.

A record one in three voters at the federal election in May cast a ballot for minor parties or independents. Clearly, voters want change, they want to make their vote count. They have in fact abandoned the two-party system.

The Augean stables in need of a flush ! – » The Australian Independent Media Network

Why are so many of these old white dudes getting the DCM (don’t come Monday) in the Murdoch media empire ? Is it something to do with the quality of people Murdoch has attracted and promoted over the years ? Is it only now that Lachlan has taken over that action is finally being taken ? Who knows, suffice to say that young Murdoch still has a way to go until these stables are free of excrement !

Most references to these shenanigans come from sources other than Newscorp and that could be part of the problem, that a news organisation refuses to recognise or record its own failings :

Here are the women who have publicly accused Roger Ailes of sexual harassment

Chris Dore’s exit from News Corp lifts lid on behaviour at governor general’s residence

You could add so many more to this list such as O’Reilly D’Souza, then others that have jumped willingly not to even consider the UK that came close closing Murdoch down entirely

Dumb Ways to Buy: Defence “shambles” unveiled – former submariner and senator Rex Patrick – Michael West

ADF, defence spending

“The AUKUS nuclear submarine project will bleed the Australian Defence Force white”, on top of the billions in annual Defence spending waste

Costly failure after failure

Defence procurement is a shambles and national expenditure disgrace. Project after project blows out in cost and schedule, with some projects being cancelled all together.

Every year the Auditor-General releases a Major Projects Report into Defence’s major projects. The most recent report covered 21 projects worth $58 billion dollars. Across those 21 projects, there had been $18.5 billion in cost increases – that’s 18,500 million dollars for those that can’t easily grapple with the large amounts of money with which Defence plays.

Across those 21 projects the schedule slippage was 405 months – 34 years. A number of projects, excluding the future submarine project for the moment, have either been binned or did not meet capability requirements. They are:

  • The Multiple-Role Helicopter program – $3.8 billion wasted.
  • The Sky Guardian medium altitude long endurance attack drone program – $1.3 billion
    wasted.
  • The Army’s Battle Management system – a billion wasted.
  • The Spartan battlefield airlift aircraft – $1.4 billion wasted.
  • The Tiger helicopter program – another billion wasted.

That’s eight and a half billion dollars of taxpayers’ money just thrown away. That’s eight billion dollars of new capability our brave front-line Defence Force members don’t have.

How this government will turn its Jewish critics into dissidents

The rapid development of a Fascist State turning the left into Dissidents,

Leftist Jews have very often been afforded the privilege of being opponents of the right, rather than its enemies.

But all that seems like it may change, and far quicker than even the biggest pessimists in my camp anticipated. In just the last month, since Itamar Ben Gvir was appointed as presumptive national security minister, Bezalel Smotrich given the power to lord over the day-to-day lives of millions of Palestinians in the occupied territories, and Avi Maoz granted the power to implement his homophobic agenda in school curriculums, the shifts have been palpable for Jewish critics of the state and its occupation. The government has not yet been formed, but it is clear to everybody which way the wind is blowing.

What a stupid year | The Shot

Nothing normal.

2022, an exceptionally dumb year, began with former Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison advocating for the rights of disadvantaged children everywhere to be able to drive forklifts at Woolies; the pandemic had exacerbated global supply chain issues and, of all the imaginable remedies to this situation, minimum-wage kids operating heavy machinery appealed to Scott’s mindhole the most. The year ended, just as appropriately, with former American President Donald Trump dropping a collection of $99 NFTs, artificially scarce internet pictures that depict him dressed up as a superhero or a cowboy or a football player.

Morrison has poisoned the LNP well, possibly for generations – » The Australian Independent Media Network

Howard began the slide referring to the LNP as a “broad church” courting cashed-up Pentecostals and Morrison was one who accepted his offer to makeover the LNP.  Bob Santamaria and the DLP made religion the centre of Labor politics in the 50s and look how long it took them to recover. The ALP was branded “godless socialists” back then and Murdoch still does it today appealing to the fringe of Australian society. However, when any already concentrated minority decides to organize and join a political party history shows they can take over the party and form governments and they do. Because Howard opened the door Morrison and his ilk rushed in.

Even typing those words leaves a bad taste in the mouth. Will he attempt a come-back? Will his poisonous personality rear up out of the darkness? Or will he pull the pin on his parliamentary career, and move to the U.S., where nobody will know him, and he can make lots of money preaching to the terminally lost souls of the Trumpian world?

Net Zero by 2045: “California is leading most significant economic transformation since Industrial Revolution”

California’s Air Resources Board has announced a wide-ranging set of plans aimed at taking the state to net carbon zero by 2045. This step will involve radically reducing the use of fossil fuels, to the point where any carbon dioxide they emit is less than or equal to the carbon absorbed, e.g., by the state’s forests and other carbon sinks. The unprecedented push for a rapid transition away from carbon emissions is likely the most ambitious in the world. If California were a country, it would have the fourth-highest nominal GDP in the world ahead of Germany, so it is a potential model for other industrialized communities.

Coalition sidelined, fossil outrage as Labor strikes deal on Energy Relief bill with Greens – Michael West

Energy Price Relief Plan, Anthony Albanese, Adam Bandt

We seem to have forgotten what Labor was once and did bravely and with courage under Gough Whitlam. Whitlam changed whole systems, patterns of behaviours, and institutions under which we habitually and intergenerationally operated. He didn’t just adjust them making the nation a fairer place. Albanese isn’t a Gough.

The government has ended the year on a high note however the clear message from the Greens and cross-benchers is that there are strong calls for them to go far further. Australians want a windfall profits tax, they want an end to Australia’s gas cartel and they want to improve transparency around how their government makes decisions.

Biden Moves Ahead With Embassy on Stolen Palestinian Land

The Israeli and United States flags are projected on the walls of the ramparts of Jerusalem's Old City, to mark one year since the transfer of the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem on May 15, 2019.

Nearly five years after President Donald Trump broke with decades of U.S. policy and international consensus to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and move the U.S. Embassy there, the Biden administration is moving ahead with plans to build a permanent embassy compound in the city. Israel’s government has its headquarters in Jerusalem, but, because Palestinians also claim the city as their capital and because the city’s status remains disputed under international law, the U.S. Embassy, like those of most other countries, was previously based in Tel Aviv.

The plans for a new embassy, which the administration has quietly advanced in recent weeks, would consolidate Trump’s abrupt policy reversal and violate U.S. precedent both on the status of Jerusalem and on Israel’s ongoing illegal appropriation of Palestinian land. The new embassy would also make the U.S. government an active participant in that appropriation: The planned compound is to be built on land illegally expropriated from Palestinians, whose descendants, including several U.S. citizens, still have a claim to.
