There’s only a Year to go and we are watching the panic set in. Trump said the USA was “making” money out of the Tariffs whose advising this idiot non-savant ? (ODT)
US President Donald Trump on Tuesday warned he would be “tougher” on Beijing in a second term if trade talks dragged on, compounding market fears that ongoing trade disputes between the United States and China could trigger a US recession.
US stocks fell on Tuesday as data showed factory activity contracted for the first time since 2016 in August, while the benchmark 10-year US Treasury yield fell to its lowest since July 2016.
How much does Fox get paid to amplify Climate Change Denial by lobbyists not scientists? Roy Spencer spent 20 years telling the world it was cooling not warming when that finally failed he’s gone on to say it’s warming slowly, nothing about the increased rate of acceleration. Nothing about any issues for future generations to come. Fox dutifully broadcasts and listens to a man whose track record speaks for itself.(ODT)
Trump said he’d said he’d send money to Puerto Ric and he did he’s never stopped complaining he did they are Latino Americans. He says he’s sending money to the Bahamas they are White and mostly American will he use them as a political football too? (ODT)
“Communities deserve a Green New Deal that invests in resilience and adaptation to climate change, provides funding for disaster relief and grassroots recovery, and creates a just transition to 100 percent renewable economy that creates millions of jobs for workers,” said Boeve. “Instead of people, it’s fossil fuel billionaires who should pay for the level of damage caused by Hurricane Dorian.”
A cross-party alliance of British MPs votes to take control of Parliament in a bid to prevent the United Kingdom from leaving the European Union without a deal at the end of October.
Wherever you look, we are being manipulated by messaging. The idea that, unless we persecute a hard-working Sri Lankan couple and their two baby daughters, our navy, air force and border force will be unable to repel an invasion by fishing boats, is beyond ridiculous. The apathy brought about by the safety and comfort we have enjoyed in this country has led to an acceptance by the majority of the population of these massacred messages. The truth has been obscured by spin. No longer do we hear genuine debate about opposing ideas informed by factual evidence – we hear propaganda designed to maintain the power and privilege of the few.
News Corp and Nine do ABC doesn’t Save the ABC (ODT)
Nine Entertainment used its historic TV studios in the Sydney suburb of Willoughby to host a $10,000-a-head corporate fundraiser for the Liberal party on Monday night.
Hosted by Nine’s CEO, Hugh Marks, corporates paid handsomely for the chance to dine with the prime minister, Scott Morrison, and the communications minister, Paul Fletcher, inside Australia’s biggest locally owned media company.
Since the merger with Fairfax Media last year, Nine has had control of the Sydney Morning Herald, the Age and the Australian Financial Review, mastheads which have always prided themselves on independent journalism. That independence was still evident as the venue for the Liberal party fundraiser was revealed by the AFR’s gossip columnist Joe Aston.
Nine is emerging as a local rival to News Corp Australia after making a $113.94m offer to acquire the remaining shares in Macquarie Media, which owns 2GB.
The networking event was organised by the Liberal party’s fundraising arm, the Australian Business Network, which asked Nine to host the dinner at Willoughby and carry the cost of the catering.
If that had happened, six deaths would’ve been prevented, and the remorseless mass destruction of physical and psychological health would’ve been curtailed.
Finally, ScoMo must also keep mum about Attorney-General Christian Porter’s rip-snorting new religious discrimination draft bill which pleases neither progressives nor reactionaries and which may prove a bridge too far for our star of Dili, Pacific and European diplomacy. Or our globe-trotting PM may just be plumb tuckered out; a daggy dad with bad jet-lag. On the other hand, he’s been exceptionally ineffectual and deceptive, even by his own government’s yard-stick.
The key question is when will he and his government be held to account?
Meet the Tripodinas, the Sydney fruit and veg moguls and Liberal Party donors behind the bid to privatise Australia’s visa system. Michael Sainsbury reports.
Flemington market’s fruit and vegetable mogul Santo Peter Tripodina and his 38-year old son, property developer Adrian Tripodina, have emerged as mystery power-brokers behind the one of the two bids for the Federal Government’s $1 billion visa privatisation.
Both bidding vehicles for Australia’s visa system, chiefly via Consolidated Press and Accenture, have significant tax haven connections.

Boris Johnson is poised to win any snap poll because he is on the side of the people, former Prime Minister Tony Abbott has told an audience in London.
Abbott, who was dumped by his own colleagues as prime minister and by the voters in the historically blue-ribbon seat of Warringah in the May election, is delivering a series of speeches in Europe.
In this, they have a structural advantage over those who remain invested in pluralistic democracy. It is anathema to most of them to fight fire with fire–to stoop to using similar tactics–and as we know, a lie travels halfway around the world before the truth can put on its boots.
Unless this asymmetry is addressed in some fashion–and it’s not an easy nut to crack–historians may look back at the early 21st century and conclude that this was the time when it became apparent that liberal democracy is fundamentally incompatible with the internet and it’s free-wheeling information infrastructure.
Trump’s G7statements proved to be bullshit yet again (ODT)
“The United States should learn how to behave like a responsible global power and stop acting as a ‘school bully’,” the official Xinhua news agency said.”
A new round of tariffs took effect from 2:01pm on Sunday, with Beijing’s levy of five per cent on US crude marking the first time the fuel has been targeted since the world’s two largest economies started their trade war more than a year ago.
The Trump administration will begin collecting 15 per cent tariffs on more than $US125 billion ($185 billion) in Chinese imports, including smart speakers, Bluetooth headphones and many types of footwear.
Damn, I was intending to write something about Andrew Bolt and his defence of the magazine that confused the picture of that black model with a picture of some other black person which wasn’t a problem because don’t they all look alike and that’s not racist. I was intending to label a photo of Joseph Goebbels and then apologise by saying that it’s an easy mistake to make because all Nazis look alike to me.
But of course that’s a cheap and pathetic shot. Andrew is not a Nazi. Neither does he have the capacity of Goebbels for clever sophistry, so I’d be wrong on two counts.
Isn’t it rather ironic that coal and gas are the biggest contributors to climate change and that Australia is the biggest exporter of both? (John Lord)
Supporters of the family have been urging Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton to reconsider their case
Mr Dutton said that would encourage the people smuggling trade

According to the lawsuit complaint, Linder awoke shortly after he arrived to “multiple welts, lumps and marks over much of his face, neck, arms and torso,” at which point he complained to the resort staff. Linder was then informed the room he was in tested positive for bed bugs. Per the lawsuit complaint, the property had a “history of severe bed bug infestation,” which was either not treated or was done so inadequately.
According to a court document filed by a mediator, an “agreement was reached” between the parties on Jan. 24, 2017. Linder, according to news reports, is barred from discussing the details of the settlement by a confidentiality agreement.
Before the bed bugs scandal hit the news, Trump was already facing scrutiny for his statement that next year’s G7 would be held at his own resort location, which raises ethical issues about the president using the public office to enrich his private interests. Trump’s extensive business network and how he has used it in office have been the source of ongoing controversy over questions about conflicts of interest.
Despite the heavy-handed presentation, if a viewer actually listens to what Ocasio-Cortez is saying, it’s quite clear she’s making a cogent and intelligent case, and understands the actual scientific evidence far better than her detractors.
Thunberg was also greeted by a wave of misogynist nastiness, largely coming from allegedly grown men in both Europe and the United States. The attacks on Thunberg were in the same vein as those on Ocasio-Cortez, accusing her of being too stupid to know what she’s talking about and denying that her voice is one worth honoring. A writer for the conservative Washington Examiner claimed that Thunberg is a victim of “child abuse” and that her mother “pimps their kid out,” explicitly drawing a line between forced sex work and climate activism.
“Abu Hummus was trying to solve a traffic jam created by the police. The driver was next to us and he signaled her to go ahead so as not to block traffic,” she added.
Peleg has no doubt that the police are looking for any way to stop Abu Hummus. “They want any excuse to arrest him, so someone came up with the idea that the video could help. They have an interest in removing him because he is a source of nonviolent civil resistance and documents what they are doing in the neighborhood.”
ALL THE WAY WITH DONALD J SAY MORRISON ECONOMIC MANAGER
Australian two-way trade with China in 2017-2018 was 24.4% ($194.6 billion) of total trade. In contrast, Japan was our second largest trading partner, accounting for 9.7% ($77.6 billion). China was Australia’s largest export destination — with about 27% of all exports, valued at $123.3 billion.
If Australia were a business, it would be marked down for its high risk-profile through its inordinate reliance on one customer — known in economics as monopsony.
In terms of reliance on China, Australia places 11th on the league table, ahead of such “stand-out” economies as North Korea, Mongolia, Turkmenistan, Solomon Islands, Eritrea, Angola, Oman, Myanmar, Mauritania and the Republic of Congo, according to the CIA World Handbook.
The only other significant nation that comes close to Australia’s 27% export figure is South Korea (25%). New Zealand is at (19%), Singapore (12%) and Indonesia (11%). Trading figures fall away after this.
I started writing something about the Sri Lankan family currently being held on Christmas Island. Apparently the two year old was separated from her mother and cried the whole flight and I had this nice little dialogue about how separating children from their parents was a good thing because it deterred people from coming here – at least by boat – and therefore it saved people from drowning…
I stopped because I suddenly realised that we were hearing much the same thing from Peter Dutton and, well, I sort of lost my taste for trying to outdo the man and actually come up with something that can exaggerate him to the point of satire. It made me remember how his wife wondered why people think that he’s a monster when he’s quite nice when he’s at home… That’s really good to know. I’m relieved that he doesn’t keep his own children behind razor wire or use the excuse that he’s only exposing his wife to psychological torture as a deterrent to his children.
