Trump’s donor and election war aganst Iran (ODT)
The point is that the U.S. and the Israelis are intent on going to war against enemy number one Iran and are packaging their actions in such away as to suggest that they are really behaving in a moderate fashion. They are assuming that Iran will retaliate, but in such a way as to avoid intensifying the conflict. In reality, taking action to destroy a nation’s economy is an act of war just as much as is staging attacks using bombs carried by spies or using missiles fired from planes. There is already a war going on, but the smokescreen provided by the coronavirus spread and BLM means that no one seems to want more on their plate and there is great reluctance to call it for what it is.

Although it’s shocking that the most popular cable news show on television would hire a racist, sexist bigot as a lead writer, Fox and its prime-time host knew exactly what they were getting when they hired Neff. Before joining Fox, Neff wrote nearly 2,000 articles as a reporter at The Daily Caller, an outlet that has drawn criticism in the past for hiring writers linked to white nationalist and other racist groups. (Carlson co-founded the Daily Caller and had a stake in it till recently.)
Voter Suppression is Real and Legal. SCOTUS judgement (ODT)
The justices declined to set aside an order by the Atlanta-based 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals that effectively halted the voter registration of former felons in Florida who cannot afford to pay fines or fees mandated by state law.
Liberal Justices Sonia Sotomayor, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Elena Kagan dissented from the decision.
The voting rights of hundreds of thousands of former felons in Florida were called into question Thursday after the U.S. Supreme Court allowed a lower court ruling to stand, permitting the state to bar former inmates from voting if they owe court fees or fines.
“This Court’s order prevents thousands of otherwise eligible voters from participating in Florida’s primary election simply because they are poor,” said Justice Sonia Sotomayor in her dissent.

Type 2 diabetes is a diet-related condition that results in uncontrolled blood sugar levels. The foods that have the most impact on fluctuating blood sugar are cereal, pizza, bread and sugary drinks, which contain refined carbohydrates, starches and simple sugar.
It’s a no-brainer for people with Type 2 diabetes – if you restrict your carb intake, you also limit the need for the medications to control the sugar highs. And it may also help mitigate the complications that arise from COVID-19.

While some people are mocking this focus on jobs, it’s worth remembering that the government promised that they’d be all about jobs and growth when they first came to power back in 2013… I know that it’s confusing because we have had three Prime Ministers, three Deputy PMs, three Treasurers and the occasional Science minister jumbled in with another portfolio such as Trade or the Arts, but it is all the same government. And yes, it does seem reminiscent of people who keeps changing their name in the hope that the lawsuits won’t catch up with them, but let’s give credit where credit is due… Of course, demand cash upfront from those shops who keep putting up the “Under New Management” sign every few weeks.
What’s the difference between JobMaker and JobTrainer, you ask? Is this another example of the government re-announcing something and acting like it’s new when there’s no substantial difference and no extra funding?

Dumb but legal clears Taylor but blames Joyce (ODT)
The most controversial buybacks were in 2017, in the so-called “watergate” deals worth $80 million with Eastern Australia Agriculture, in Queensland’s Condamine Balonne Catchment.
The buybacks were executed under then-water minister Barnaby Joyce, who faced criticism because the parent company Eastern Australia Irrigation was domiciled in the Cayman Islands, a known tax haven, and recorded a $52 million profit from the sale.
The watergate scandal featured during last year’s federal election campaign, with speculation over Energy Minister Angus Taylor’s role in the deal with Eastern Australia, where he was co-director until 2013 when he was elected to Parliament.

When she asked Trump, “why are African Americans still dying at the hands of law enforcement in this country?” Trump’s response was not simply telling, it was piteously predictable. “So are white people. So are white people. What a terrible question.” But Trump wasn’t done digging that stupid racist’s hole, because this wouldn’t be a Donald Trump interview if he didn’t add some kind of complete lie to his ignorant response.
Trump went on to explain: “So are white people. More white people, by the way. More white people!” This may come as news to you because … it isn’t a real thing. It’s as factually accurate as saying Donald Trump is not the embodiment of corrupt narcissistic mediocrity. As many point out, while there are a lot more white folks than Black people, Black men are three and a half times more likely to be killed by law enforcement than their white counterparts. But. Let’s pretend that Donald Trump is right. Let us pretend that there is in fact no real racism, and our country’s long history of racism, specifically against Black people, ended with Barack Obama’s election to office as a secret Muslim communist revolutionary…Trump’s opinion of law enforcement is that killing American citizens willy-nilly isn’t a problem. In fact, bringing it up—specifically bringing it up in regards to racial injustice—is a ”terrible question.”

Following in the steps of Tony Abbott a Billion will have been spent on the mythologising ou boys own wars. Add to that the subs and othey toys deemed essential and the cuts to welfare who is this LNP government working for?
Stokes may have a point. War, packed with its uniforms and lethal toys, is vulgar. This project, should it be envisaged in the form Nelson intended it, promises to be the most vulgar of all. Commemorative solemnity has its role, but Australia’s ruling classes have little intention to pause and reflect about the losses the country has either endured or inflicted over the short existence of the Commonwealth. With money being poured into a delusionary defence budget to fight fictional enemies, the distasteful cinematic joke of healing veterans by reminding them of their weapons of death and destruction seems aptly grotesque.
Premier Daniel Andrews is damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t, but Prime Minister Scott Morrison, despite much evidence to the contrary, remains the mainstream media’s golden boy, writes managing editor Michelle Pini.
Whereas future clarifications of definitions around casual workers and the “better off overall test” may be required, the ACTU takes a long-range view that whatever the State of Victoria may engineer – as was recently the case with its anti-wage theft law – the federal government should consider adopting.
“The Commonwealth is responsible for Australia’s national system of workplace laws. It was the universal view of those participating in the Inquiry that any change should be led nationally. Reforms confined to a single state risk creating yet more complexity and inconsistency and could impose an unnecessary regulatory burden on national businesses,” the text added.

But he is really, really good at lying. An Olympic-standard, Guinness Book of Records fabricator of falsehoods. He regurgitates lies as rapidly and copiously as Joey Chestnut swallows hotdogs.
It took him 827 days to reach his first 10,000 lies, but just 440 days to reach his second 10,000 lies.
By ignoring the pandemic for the sake of the Dow, and hence his re-election campaign, he’s risking the distinct and calamitous possibility that thousands more Americans will die, or suffer from lifelong pre-existing conditions, all to serve his blindingly irresponsible re-election strategy

Be clear Israel is a political entity and isn’t to be conflated with Judaism in this context. Israel wishes a Muslim holocaust and Israeli Jews are only guilty in their silence. However that silence is not universally Jewish and the anti-Israel trotests are getting louder. (ODT)
And it all starts with the presumption that Israel is some kind of friend, which it is not. Fake charities and various schemes to otherwise defraud and impoverish the U.S. taxpayer is the name of the game and Israel goes on from there to become a “business arrangement” and “health initiative partner” plus “national security asset.” When will it ever end? Ask your congressman. He or she will not reply. Or write a letter to the Washington Post or New York Times. They will not print it.

President Donald Trump tweeted in response to television programs he was watching nearly 300 times in the first six months of 2020, according to a Media Matters review. More than nine in 10 of those tweets came in response to Fox News or its sister network, Fox Business, as the right-wing channels maintained their unprecedented influence over the federal government.

On why the United States should not pull out of the World Health Organization: WHO is not a perfect organization, but it is the only international infrastructure that we currently have that creates the platform on top of which sovereign nations can collaborate, and share data and technical expertise. There is nothing else like that out there. And so, for us to pull out of that basically means that we need to depend on bilateral relationships with countries you know, or regional organizations. It’s just shooting ourselves in the foot.

We don’t have to leave ourselves at the mercy of the most profitable sector on Earth to get the drugs we need. We must nationalize the pharmaceutical industry and turn the medicines millions rely on into public goods.

Prof Peter Gøtzsche, the paper’s third co-author, believes it was about censoring the research. “The medical publishing system is broken. There are far too many financial connections between big publishers and big pharma,” he said. “The system doesn’t ensure that solid research which goes against financial interests can get published without any major obstacles.”Informed Comment
