A Final Thought on the Hearings: How Trump Will Be Held Accountable | The Smirking Chimp

In other words, even if he avoids prosecution, even if he is never formally deemed a criminal under the law, Trump will be accountable to history. That is not as satisfying a form of accountability as a criminal judgment, to be sure. But it is a form of accountability that is inescapable. If the committee does its work properly — and I have every confidence it will — it will create a clear record. Which means that for our children and our children’s children — for as far as future generations will know of our recorded history — Donald Trump will live in infamy.

Thursday night’s public hearing by the House Jan. 6 committee made one thing very clear: Donald Trump is personally in the crosshairs. They are coming for him with receipts, in the form of testimony from some of his closest aides and allies. The committee seems prepared to destroy any pretense that Trump was a casual bystander to the insurrection. In fact, its members are building a case that he actively encouraged it, and that by refusing to take action for many hours that day, he was an actual accomplice.

Steve Bannon Seems Very, Very Worried Trump Will Be Indicted

Julian Assange has been imprisoned for a decade for publishing the truth he didn’t steal. How is this guy still walking free?

By NewsHound Ellen — June 11, 2022 Bannon’s fever dreams of impeaching President Joe Biden and destroying American institutions is nothing new. But on his podcast (he hates having it called a podcast), he sounded especially triggered by the hearings.

BANNON: Trump won the presidency and he is the legitimate president of the United States and your guy’s illegitimate and the American people are awakening to that. And we don’t care what you have to say and I dare Merrick Garland to take that crap there last night and try to indict Donald J. Trump. We dare you, ’cause we will impeach. We’re winning in November, and we’re gonna impeach you and everybody around you. F**k – screw the White House. We’re going to impeach you and everybody at DOJ.

So what has Bannon so worried? Was it Ivanka saying she “accepted” Trump’s attorney general calling “bulls**t” on the stolen election claims? Liz Cheney teasing that “multiple” congressmen sought pardons from Trump over their role in the January 6th insurrection?

Or are we going to learn some very interesting information about Bannon, who got a suspicious pardon from Donald Trump after swindling millions of their supporters over the “non profit” that promised to build the wall that Mexico was supposed to pay for?

Why is Scott Morrison remaining in the Parliament? – » The Australian Independent Media Network

So, what could be Morrison’s motivation for staying on? Perhaps his ego is telling him to be patient for another opportunity. Maybe he believes God’s will is for him to fulfil his destiny. Maybe there is another reason. Maybe it’s for the money (though I’m not suggesting it is).

Treasury boss Steven Kennedy’s cure for debt and deficit

Treasury secretary Steven Kennedy says inflation pressures will persist into 2023 “at the very least”.

Albanese has to do what Morrison and Frydenberg didn’t. Have the guts to do and fix that which led us to, and created the crisis we find ourselves in now. Make those that profited from the LNP’s gross generosity pay, and take those steps immediately rather than later….increase their taxes and collect what they haven’t paid.

Anthony Albanese and his Treasurer, Dr Jim Chalmers, have inherited many problems that won’t be solved quickly or easily. Nor will they be solved without the new government being willing to persuade voters to accept the sort of tax changes no pollie wants to talk about in an election campaign.

RBA’s rate rise gives free billions to Aussie banks – Michael West

‘’There are two ways to reside in a house. Rent the house from a landlord or rent the money from a bank and become your own landlord. What happens when these prices are out of whack prices will change in the housing market to make them equal again. So if you put interest rates up, the cost of renting money goes up compared to the cost of renting a house and to make them equal again the price of the house must drop”. So any way you cut it, the cost of residing in a house is likely to remain the same before and after these interest rate rises.

Higher interest rates are on their way

Further interest rate rises are expected, with Governor Lowe saying that: “The Board is committed to doing what is necessary to ensure that inflation in Australia returns to target over time. This will require a further lift in interest rates over the period ahead.” With these rises, banks with billions in their exchange settlement accounts will see higher and higher risk-free profits.

The Two Biggest Questions About Last Night’s Hearings on Trump’s Attempted Coup | The Smirking Chimp

Jan. 6 Hearings Seek to Remind U.S. That Trump Almost Engineered a Coup

Fox News continues to deny Jan 6th ever happened. It’s a lie, so they won’t broadcast ignorance to America. But, they continue to call themselves the leading corporate agents of news and information in the nation. Just as 88% of America wants gun control  Fox News continues to tell America that’s also a lie.

For a country where few people remember what happened before last week’s verdict in the Johnny Depp-Amber Heard case, Thursday night’s hearing provided a gut-punch reminder of the violence of the insurrection.

Truth Social Is Banning Anyone Who Mentions The Jan. 6 Hearing

Former President Donald Trump’s social site describes itself as “Truth Social is America’s “Big Tent” social media platform that encourages an open, free, and honest global conversation without discriminating on the basis of political ideology.” However, unsurprisingly, that’s not true.

Conservatives pretend they are staunch First Amendment supporters, but that isn’t true either. Trump exploded on Truth Social last night during the first of a series of Jan. 6 hearings which revealed that even Bloaty McBatshit’s daughter, Ivanka, didn’t believe the 2020 election was stolen. And over Bill Barr’s testimony. So, Trump’s site started banning anyone that mentioned the hearing because he has tender feelings.

Tucker Carlson’s counterprogramming for the January 6 hearing spread rapidly on Facebook | Media Matters for America

Jan 6th facebook

What one needs to remember 88% of Americans believe in strict gun control but 88% don’t get that programming they should. The majority of Americans believe there was an attempted coup on Jan 6th with Pence doing his job to prevent it and Trump doing nothing to stop that mayhem. Yet the minority voice is being programmed to megaphone and counter that majority’s voice to that truth as well. American media no longer is the best fit to protect the Constitution and Murdoch leads the revolution to tear it apart.

It shouldn’t be forgotten that Rupert Murdoch fled the UK because he was almost jailed for his transgressions against British media standards. He became an American citizen not for the love of America but the love of his already corrupt business model. He was kicked out of China, Not allowed into Canada or NZ. But has been welcomed into Putin’s Russia.

Facebook is bolstering right-wing media attempts to distract audiences from the first televised hearing from the House select committee investigating the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. Media Matters compiled and analyzed more than 3,200 Facebook posts from U.S. news and politics pages from June 9 and 10 and found that a video from Fox News’ Tucker Carlson Tonight is the top video post about the January 6 committee hearing. The video is also the top performing post overall among right-leaning pages.

Alexei Navalny poisoning: Documentary captures confession by agents

Alexei Navalny flew back from Germany to Moscow even though he knew he would be arrested immediately in January last year.

Russian agents reveal the their plot to kill Navalny

While Roher filmed, Navalny starts phoning the agents one by one to ask why they wanted to kill him. They hang up immediately so he decides to pass himself off as an investigating official asking why the operation failed.

Another agent, Konstantin Kudryavtsev, falls for the ruse and spends more than 45 minutes discussing the murder plot.

“We did it just as planned,” he says. “The way we rehearsed it many times.”

Kudryavtsev reveals the poison had been smeared inside Navalny’s blue underpants. He thought the operation failed because the emergency landing allowed Russian medics to treat him quickly with an antidote.

After Navalny revealed the phone conversation on social media, Kudryavtsev disappeared and is presumed dead. While he feels for Kudryavtsev’s family, Roher has no sympathy for the agent.

Scott Morrison is gone. Although he isn’t dead, something is gone all the same.

He’s alive, but he is gone. Gone from our television screens. Gone to pack the barbecued barramundi lifestyle of Kirribilli House he lived in at our expense. Gone from our news cycle. Gone from the front pages of his fawning tabloids. Gone from our mouths.

Gone from the Australian government. Gone from the Prime Minister’s plane that will never carry his swindling, lying, masquerading bulk again. Gone from our conscience. Gone from our lives, from our daily grind. Gone from our souls. Gone.

A greater fraud and malcontent never disgraced the mantle of Prime Minister. That he was disliked throughout Australia goes without saying. That he was despised as well is truly extraordinary.

The Failure of a Faux PM

Looking back at Scott Morrison and the legacy he left behind.

Where do we go from here with a pulpit-loving, personalized-prosperity preaching Pentecostal prime minister who habitually shirks responsibility, who refuses to apologise for even the most minor infraction to avoid accountability and is quite content to allow his ministers to fly under the radar without the threat of a federal ICAC hanging over their heads? A prime minister who increases the secrecy of government, often legislating or introducing bills to avoid scrutiny of cabinet while reducing the freedom of others, silencing them through litigation and costly secret trials that could result in gaol time for speaking out?

Climate, deportations on Aust-NZ agenda

New Zealand Australia agenda

Watch Dutton keep the divide he and Morrison created between Aus and NZ

International and regional concerns will be on the agenda as NZ’s Jacinda Ardern becomes the first world leader to visit Anthony Albanese as Australian PM.

Should the Australian government cede ground, they can expect a fiery pushback from Opposition Leader Peter Dutton, who as immigration and home affairs minister oversaw increased deportations.

“It was right to deport them and we’re safer because of having done so,” he told Sydney radio station 2GB on Thursday.

“I don’t want to see the Albanese government walk it back.”

Another major shift is that climate change is back on the agenda, with senior NZ government figures telling AAP the issue was declared a no-go zone under the previous coalition government.

“It’s a huge relief,” one source said. “It hasn’t caused problems in the relationship per se, but it’s just been such an anomaly in that Australia hasn’t been interested.”

Did the Morrison government try to suppress voting in the Northern Territory? | Australian election 2022 | The Guardian

Did they restrict voting?

In October 2021, the Coalition introduced a bill to require the electoral commission to ask voters for identification.

Turnout in Lingiari is down from 73.70% in 2016, to 72.85% in 2019, to 66.8% in 2022 (although this may increase slightly as final declaration votes are counted).

Verdict

While some criticism of the Coalition’s attempted voter ID bill is justified,

Why the televised hearings on the January 6 insurrection will be historic | Robert Reich | The Guardian

‘No president in history has staged an attempted coup to change the outcome of an election.’

They will mark a milestone in the battle between democracy and autocracy. Everyone should tune in and watch them

Those who claim that a president cannot be criminally liable for acts committed while in office apparently forget that Richard Nixon avoided prosecution only because he was pardoned by his successor, Gerald Ford.

Those who argue that Trump should not be criminally liable because no president in American history has been criminally liable, overlook the fact that no president in history has staged an attempted coup to change the outcome of an election.

Without accountability for these acts, Trump’s criminality opens wide the door to future presidents and candidates disputing election outcomes and seeking to change them – along with ensuing public distrust, paranoia and divisiveness.

Capitol crime as Fox News cancels the greatest show in town

Protesters scale a wall at the US Capitol on January 6 last year.

It’s an Orwellian and cowardly move – suppressing rather than heralding the news.

a band of racists, goons, gun-nuts and thugs invading the seat of freedom and democracy, egged on by a malevolent and reckless conman –how this all happened should be of interest to most Americans. Yes?

Well, no. At least that’s a “no” from Fox News. That’s right, the nation’s most-watched news network and the in-house news source for the American right, announced it would not carry the hearings live. Instead, it will run its usual evening line-up of hate-mongering political commentators, including Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity. The network says it will run the hearings on its sister channel, the Fox Business Network, which has a fraction of the viewers, and on its streaming service.

This is plainly a move to minimise the import of the hearing. It’s a political decision, not a news one. It’s designed to reduce any cauterising effect a true account of how the insurrection unfolded might have on Fox’s core viewership.

The legitimization of American Neo- Nazis is real and in plain sight

Carl Paladino apparently loves Trump rallies and finds them similar to another foreign leader in history. So do we, but not in a good way.

Paladino was asked by host Peter Hunt how to rile up the people for change.

“I was thinking the other day about somebody had mentioned on the radio Adolf Hitler and how he aroused the crowds. And he would get up there screaming these epithets and these people were just — they were hypnotized by him. That’s, I guess, I guess that’s the kind of leader we need today. We need somebody inspirational. We need somebody that is a doer, has been there and done it.”

It used to be verboten to even mention the Nazi leader when bashing a political rival in Congress, but Paladino is using Hitler as his inspiration.

With the rise of white supremacy throughout the Republican party and Fox News because of Trump, his comparison will be celebrated.

Russia-Ukraine war: Polish president Andrzej Duda says calls with Vladimir Putin ‘like speaking to Hitler’

Polish President Andrzej Duda.

Duda, in an interview with Bild first released on its YouTube channel late on Wednesday (Thursday AEST), said such discussions only legitimised an illegal war in Ukraine.

“Did anyone speak like this with Adolf Hitler during World War II?” Duda said. “Did anyone say that Adolf Hitler must save face? That we should proceed in such a way that it is not humiliating for Adolf Hitler? I have not heard such voices.”

The conflict in Ukraine, described by Moscow as a “special military operation” to stamp out perceived threats to its security, has flattened cities, killed thousands of civilians and forced more than 7 million people to flee the country.

Ukraine and its Western allies say Russia is waging an unprovoked war to grab territory.

THE MORE the Liberal and National parties talk of change, the more things stay the same.

Apart from the front men (for they are usually men) who are quite regularly replaced or recycled, this is true no matter which Coalition yardstick you care to examine: health, gender equality, education, climate change, Indigenous affairs, the economy, cost of living pressures or corruption.

While the regression in these areas certainly fluctuates in terms of severity, the fact that they remain largely unaddressed by the previous Abbott/Turnbull/Morrison Government is testament to the degree to which the Coalition entrenches inequity across most social parameters.

It’s why the religious discrimination bill was their priority if they had won the election.

Without a strong news media, Australia faces a clouded future.
