The long hand of history: Political Polarisation in the US – Part 2 – Pearls and Irritations

Culture war and cultural wars concept or USA heritage and divided American politics as different philosophy as cultures fighting in conflict in the United States in a 3D illustration style.

The US demonstrates the difficulty of changing historically ingrained cultural mindsets passed down generationally

“We need a national divorce. We need to separate by red states and blue states and shrink the federal government, everyone I talk to says this. From the sick and disgusting woke culture issues shoved down our throats to the Democrat’s traitorous America Last policies, we are done.” So said Marjorie Taylor Greene in a tweet in February this year. Greene is a Republican Member of Congress and could be running mate for Donald Trump.

Scott Morrison was exposed on Thursday (7/4/2022) as being the key decision maker, in collusion with Governor-General David Hurley, for giving $18 million of taxpayer’s money to a charity, The Australian Future Leaders Foundation, that doesn’t exist except on paper.

As Actors Strike for AI Protections, Netflix Lists $900,000 AI Job

As Hollywood executives insist it is “just not realistic” to pay actors — 87 percent of whom earn less than $26,000 — more, they are spending lavishly on AI programs.

While entertainment firms like Disney have declined to go into specifics about the nature of their investments in artificial intelligence, job postings and financial disclosures reviewed by The Intercept reveal new details about the extent of these companies’ embrace of the technology.

In one case, Netflix is offering as much as $900,000 for a single AI product manager.

Hollywood actors and writers unions are jointly striking this summer for the first time since 1960, calling for better wages and regulations on studios’ use of artificial intelligence.

Israel protests: doctors strike, army reservists ask to stand down amid fury over judiciary changes

Riot police tries to clear demonstrators with a water cannon during a protest against plans by Netanyahu’s government to overhaul the judicial system, in Tel Aviv.

Netanyahu promised “In the future he will do things differently and look for a measure consensus”. Yes,at one and the same time he passed a Bill to form a Specialist Domestic National Guard to deal with domestic situations just like this, and in particular any Israeli or Palestinian protest. A specialist SS force, is his wants rather than an ineffective police force. Doesn’t it remind you of another place and another time in history where a force of head kickers was established?

Key points Prime Minister Netanyahu faces his biggest domestic crisis. Medics are on strike, and all-black ads cover newspapers. Two reservists have been punished for not heeding the training call-up. An officer has warned that absent reservists could damage military readiness. Netanyahu says he will seek political consensus in the future. Political polarisation in the US – Part 1: How real is the problem? – Pearls and Irritations

Red arrow and blue arrow point in opposite directions.

There is no doubt that polarisation between Democrats and Republicans is real and increasing. Not since the 1930s has there been such a bitter divide. Pernicious polarisation has reached levels unseen in democracies in Europe, Asia, Oceania or in Canada since World War 2. This is already having consequences for the “governability” of America, its social cohesion and its ability sustainably to deliver Presidential programs. But the impacts don’t stop there – they also affect the attitudes of allies and competitors and influence views of the value of democracy versus strongman autocracy.

Chaos as Israel departs the Ranks of Democracies, Adopting the Hungarian Model of Elective Dictatorship

Elective Dictatorship? Is this by way of a polite description and calling Israel a state bordering on Apartheid and  Fascism in fear of being accused of being antisemitic? Jews in and out of Israel are protesting while Netanyahu is in the process of creating a unitary executive and doing away with the separation of powers. The Knesset has said yes to a specialized Domestic National Guard trained to focus on Israeli Palestinians and anti-government protestors, an SS force. Compared with Israel Palestine is UNITED nation.

The Israeli newspaper Arab 48 reports that on Monday, the Israeli parliament or Knesset passed the article removing the power of review from Israeli courts on grounds of “reasonability” in light of the country’s basic laws. The measure passed 64-0 in the 120-seat body, with the far right wing coalition of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu unanimously in favor and the opposition having left the chamber in protest. The country was thrown into chaos.

Defending Bodily Autonomy Is Real Child Protection

This month, Ohio reproductive freedom advocates delivered 42 boxes of petitions — over 700,000 signatures — to state officials to put a constitutional amendment on the ballot. The proposed amendment guarantees every individual the right “to make and carry out one’s own reproductive decisions, including but not limited to decisions on contraception, fertility treatment, continuing one’s own pregnancy, miscarriage care, and abortion,” until fetal viability. It also prohibits the state from interfering with or penalizing “a person or entity that assists an individual exercising this right.” Both clauses contain exceptions for medical necessity. And neither limits these rights to adults.

Craig Murray: Democracy’s Demise

A Labour government in the U.K. under Starmer will bring no significant changes in economic or foreign policy and will make no difference whatsoever to the lives of working class people.

If dividends were taxed at the same rate as wages, that alone would bring in very many times the cost of lifting the two-child benefit cap. But that would hurt the owners of capital and be redistributive, so it is firmly off Starmer’s agenda.

Rachel Reeves, the shadow chancellor of the exchequer, Wes Streeting, shadow health minister, and Starmer have no intention of attempting to bridge society’s stunning and ever-growing wealth gap.

Rather they seek to emphasise “wealth creation” and return to trickledown theory. Alongside “wealth creation” they talk of “reform”, by which they mean more deregulation and more private, for profit provision of public services.

The Labour Party has not only abandoned all thought of securing a capital interest for the worker in the enterprise where they work. The Labour Party has also abandoned the ideas both of state intervention in the unequal dynamic between worker and employer, and of facilitating and supporting self-organisation of Labour.

Tory anti-union legislation is to remain, and who can forget Starmer banning Labour MPs from official union picket lines?

The Labour Party in power is also not going to repeal the hostile environment for immigrants legislation, or the Tory attacks on civil liberties and the right to protest.

What precisely therefore is the purpose of the Labour Party? An extension to which question is, what then is the purpose of the next U.K. general election?

To register disgust at the rule of the Tories by voting in an alternative set of Tories?

What we had from roughly 1920 to 1990, when voting really could make a difference, is not what we have now. We live instead in a post-democratic society. By Craig Murray CraigMurray.org.uk British Labour leader Keir Starmer’s determination to use his refusal to alleviate child poverty a

“Where Europeans formed a majority, or a substantial minority, they could control the outcome of the democratic process. That allowed them to effectively exclude specific groups of people: Indigenous people, slaves and the descendants of slaves could not vote. Women could not vote.”

I’m not necessarily meaning to portray a pessimistic narrative, but the fact that we’re having this conversation at all indicates that maybe we need some kind of reboot, maybe we need to consider alternatives to these long-established institutions. I can’t say too much about these kind of deliberative assemblies, the James Fishkin model of democracy (Salon stories here). I know about that, but I haven’t studied it, and I am a little dubious about how much legitimacy these assemblies might have. Are ordinary citizens going to regard their decisions as more legitimate, let’s say, then the elected assembly? I think that’s the crucial question, because governance by lot does have something to recommended it, but only if people believe that they’re a source of authority.

Israel’s New National Guard: A Tool for Palestinian Erasure

Is this the creation of the Israeli SS. An internal specialist domestic security force to be used on Palestinian Israeli’s and their sympathisers? YES

In March 2023, after months of protests over Benjamin Netanyahu’s controversial judicial overhaul, Israel gave far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir the go-ahead to establish a national guard. The force, to be composed of an initial 1,800 officers and with an operating budget of one billion NIS ($273 million), will primarily assist Israeli police during “security” emergencies. Approval of the national guard has stirred wide-ranging opposition, from a former Israeli police chief to Palestinian human rights organizations.1

Unlike other Israeli forces, the national guard is designed primarily to target Palestinian citizens of Israel. This policy memo examines the emergence of the national guard in order to understand its implications for Palestinian citizens of Israel. It proposes recommendations to relevant stakeholders for how to challenge the new force and protect Palestinians.

It’s significant that Ministers seem to remain unnamed Morrison and Dutton obviously spring to mind. The buck seems to have stopped with Dept head M. Pezzullo a significantly vocal spokesperson when Peter Dutton was the Minister.

Dutton’s track record of incompetence in all the ministries he held stands alone as a record achievement. So much so one might wonder if he was actually the most competent of LNP politicians achieving exactly what was asked of him by his LNP leaders at the time, particularly Tony Abbott and the party’s backroom. It’s is why he believes he’s been rewarded as today’s leader of the opposition.

The “Destruction of the Third Temple”? Israel’s Apocalyptic Civil War Weakens State, Military

Israel’s Netanyahu Government wants the application of “Unitary Executive Theory” and do away with the “Separation of Powers”. In simple terms establish a Fascist State disguised as a  Democracy in name only. Simply because it will still have  ” show elections”. Guess Russia is a Democracy in the eyes of Netanyahu. A unitary executive would also keep him from being jailed for corruption.

The country does not have a formal constitution, but some laws, on human rights issues, have been taken as the basis for overturning subsequent legislation that contradicts the basic laws. Removing the Supreme Court’s power of judicial review would make Israel an elective dictatorship, where the ruling party can pass retrograde laws permitting discrimination against women, Christians, Muslims, secularists and gays, in accordance with the principles of the Israeli Religious Right.

The Supreme Court has also branded some squatter-settlements by Israelis on Palestinian-owned land in the West Bank as illegal, and extremists Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben-Gvir want to prevent the court from so ruling in the future.

The quality of Australia’s mainstream media like Fordham set a tone that is bullying and impossible to believe. A tone for us all insisting we are not racist but are against The Voice. We lead the world  while all other colonial nations have agreed, either in their Constitutions or by Treaty to listen to the Voice of their First peoples. These curmudgeons proudly stand with Israel, Russia China and the UK, with no  Universal Human Rights Bill and even support Dutton’s wannabe LNP government that wishes to rid us of the UN’s AHRC.

Our Mainstream media is not reporting polls but interpreting them in a way to influence the public and set a mood. A mood, that is significantly less generous to what Australians want. There’s little or no attention given to the “undecided” who seem to have been cobbled together with the no voters.  An easier option when forced to give a Yes or No answer when surrounded by the mis and disinformation the media has also chosen to publish.

Australia has truly become Americanised politically and with media adopting only one side. It’s certainly not the side of the Government we Australians chose in a landslide for better integrity and improved management of progress to show the world we truly are the land of a “fair go”.
