War on opinion a danger to free thought

In this argument, there seems to be a slide, a segue to Trump’s Charlottesville statement of Equivalence that there is no difference between right and left arguments only the skills in which they presented. That argument was put to bed long ago with a difference not in skills but right from wrong. That which frees us from those that restrict or try to prevent any progressive change.

Indeed, the war on opinion is being waged by socio-political extremists who identify as progressives and conservatives. Opinion has become a battle for control of the agenda.

Why the Conservatives cannot win the next election and why Labor will go early – » The Australian Independent Media Network

If they do go early they’ll burn their greatest asset Peter Dutton

You are probably thinking, referring to the headline, that it is a stupid thing to say, and on the one hand, you might be right given the Government still has two years to serve. On the other, going early when your chances of winning are second to none is a good idea.

Living in the Shadows of the US Global Alliance: Respecting Differing Trans-Tasman Perspectives – » The Australian Independent Media Network

One might well ask if Jacinda Ardern saw her anti- nuke stand as an “aftermath” of the 1985 Rainbow Warrior event after 35 years. I believe her response would have been “bullshit”.

As for Morrison’s Aussie and now Albo’s “tolerance” that seems like “gilding the lily” to the ALP’s misfortune. It has inherited some very damaging perspectives from a decade of the Abbott/Turnbull/ Morrison LNP that can’t be simply be turned around after 9 months.

During this time the Murdochian/ Conservative/Mainstream media stamp and influence has been in place for well over ten years telling us Muslims and China are the enemies. Something that hasn’t been the case in NZ. The Australian LNP depends heavily on cultural “fear” to maintain its status as a government and “win” at all costs, their sole strategy. Culture and identity politics was the focus of a government that didn’t want a magnifying glass put on its economic management for the interests of a particular class rather than the nation. Indigenous Australia and Robodebt ( kicking dole bludgers) are just proof that enemies had to be found or rather fabricated in every aspect of our white Christian European monarchist colonist lives. The Albanese government must find a diplomatic way to dig us out of the hole the LNP created in the eyes of the world and at home this past dark decade.

There was not a ripple of public dissent between the two leaders over NZ’s continuing ban on the entry of nuclear weapons and nuclear-powered vessels into NZ ports. This policy was restated by the visiting NZ Prime Minister. Prime Minister Albanese remained committed to Australia’s participation in AUKUS and to negotiations over the acquisition of nuclear submarines from the US and Britain.

IBAC probe uncovers a troubling picture

Former health minister Jill Hennessy, with Premier Daniel Andrews in 2018.

QC Peter Redlich, head of IBAC, has said that the mainstream media were, in fact, creating a mountain out of a molehill. Why would that be? The Age could glean nothing from the leaked preliminary reports and be, at best making conspiracies where there were none in Quixotic fashion.

The Age in as much says so to protect themselves legally, and they bury their escape midway through their PR rant against Dan Andrews. We shouldn’t be surprised. Since Peter Costello, took over as CEO, he’s remodelled what was once a balanced news source into a mirror of Murdoch media and has tried to compete with the gutter press. The current headline reminds me of that old rag Melbournians once bought for the racing form guide The Truth.

The Age has amplified what has been common to Australian politics since the days of Bolte. Napthine’s government was criminal the way it left the LNP government when losing to the ALP and with Abbott’s assistance. They cost Victorians over a billion dollars. What we have here is a reflection of the work done by Peter Costello and the Dirtbag brigade of the LNP in deperately assisting the little backstabbing bleeder Matthew Guy who has already left a trail of LNP bodies behind in his effort to make a comeback.

It hasn’t been suggested to The Age that anyone in government or the HSU lined their pockets or materially benefited from the grants. Daintree, from what we know, is not a story about public figures with their snouts in the trough. It is about something more commonplace and arguably, more insidious; a willingness to subvert proper process and potentially, misuse public funds, to achieve a political outcome.

Australia looks to plug nuclear subs gap – Michael West

This report proves that we still haven’t a clue what’s happening and simply waiting to be told. However in not so many words. When Michael West doesn’t know nobody does.

Australia controversially scrapped a French submarine deal in favour of the AUKUS agreement, with a leaked confidential document revealing officials were kept in the dark about the cancellation.

The leaked note was written by former Department of Defence deputy secretary Kim Gillis and first published by the ABC.

Mr Gillis wrote he did not believe any more than a handful of people within Defence knew the French submarine contract was being dumped.

He also canvassed reopening discussions with the French about buying nuclear-powered submarines in the future.

Dutton to skip govt’s jobs summit ‘stunt’

Opposition Leader Peter Dutton will skip the Albanese government’s jobs and skills summit, which has been branded a “stunt” and a “talkfest” by the Coalition.

The summit – a Labor election promise – will aim to address Australia’s economic challenges and will bring together about 100 representatives from the business, union, and community sectors.

Liberal Deputy Leader Sussan Ley said no one from the Coalition, including Mr Dutton who was invited by the government, will go.

“It’s just a stunt,” she told Sky News on Wednesday.

There is an old saying that it’s easier to break up a marriage than a business partnership making mutual profit. The talk of Trump without Murdoch or Murdoch without Trump is beyond belief.

Peter Dutton 2.0 – The re-imagining – » The Australian Independent Media Network

Two idiots with no ideas of their own Andrew Bolt and Dutton chat on Sky News demanding “parents should decide the national curriculum”. So what do elected governments in a democracy get paid for?   Not a word on how that should be achieved if it wasn’t their job? Parents should stop work and homeschool and assess their kids any way they want one can only assume.

... Australia’s version of Sean Hannity, Andrew Bolt, Dutton revealed how that ‘soft’ side will dictate his behavior. Taking a leaf out of the playbook of the absurd Republicans such as Sarah Palin and Marjorie Taylor Greene he unveiled his first target in his quest to win back the sensible middle. That is to attack teachers using the treatment of LGBTIQA+ students as his weapon of choice. The assault in the US on these children is obscene and the right wing of our Liberal Party has its own history using teachers as the focus of their dog-whistle tactics.

Dutton…. With the enthusiastic encouragement of Bolt he made is initial gambit in presenting what will be his friendly, softer side. He firstly attacked those radical teachers who, as part of the Union movement, control the ALP, uninterested in the fact that the Teachers Union is not affiliated with the Australian Council of Trade Unions.

…. Dutton has embraced this right-wing diatribe questioning the values of the National Curriculum and parroting almost word for word Florida’s Republican Governor, Ron DeSanto’s views that parents are excluded from the teaching of their children. Dutton’s articulation of this right-wing position is that he ‘wants to shine a light on (the exclusion of parent’s rights) and let parents be the judges on what is being taught in schools’.

How far away are we from the condemnation of critical race theory? Not far when you consider the Ramsay Centre’s history curriculum based on the premise that the civilization of western values are superior to those in non-western cultures. Tony Abbott, after all, has insisted on the need for the Ramsay Centre to be explicitly “right-wing”.

In shock and anger over Liberal defeat, Sky News commentators urge party to shift right | Australian election 2022 | The Guardian

Sky News presenter Paul Murray

Andrew Bolt nowhere man, nowhere to be seen during the election wants to now lead the charge as if he was always a presence felt during this election. He wasn’t! So typical of the man who was never there when it comes to the days of the real fight.

Sky News wants the LNP to legitimize and open its membership door to organized Ultra-Right Political thugs. Their ideal is to divide Australia and win at all costs and ensure their minority rule.

But it was Andrew Bolt, the Herald Sun’s star columnist, and Sky News host, who reacted with visceral anger.

“Scott Morrison’s pathetic Liberals got smashed by telling the world they were the Guilty Party,” Bolt wrote. “Guilty on the ‘climate emergency’. Guilty of being mean to women. Guilty on ‘reconciliation’.

“Who’d vote for such a mewling pack of self-haters with so little self-respect that they won’t even sack a party traitor like Malcolm Turnbull? Thank God this election wipe-out has taken out many of their worst grovellers.

“Please, Peter Dutton, take over, and make the Liberals stop apologising for not being more like Labor. Let the Liberals be Liberals again. But still I see some of the more clueless Liberal survivors crawl from the wreckage and whimper that they’ve got to swing even more to the Left.”

Election 2022: Albanese ahead on cost of living, but voters back Morrison on economy

The Resolve Political Monitor shows Anthony Albanese is ahead of Scott Morrison with voters on keeping the cost of living low.

These myths are so ingrained it’s unbelievable. Yet the MSM continue to reinforce them despite the facts. The most progessive Governments this country has seen were the Whitlam’s and Hawke’s ALP. Yet. Peter Costello’s and Murdoch’s media mainstreams still turns on the mythical and fake love affair advertising the economic management skills of the LNP. The LNP has taken us to wars that made us no money. They have taxed us more than the ALP ever have and lead us to the greatest state of chaos we have ever experienced since the Great Depression. Wake up Australia, the LNP has seen us slide on every economic and social metric since 2013 when we were No 1 in the world. That’s a fact, no matter the propaganda or what you think.

Anthony Albanese has increased his lead against Scott Morrison on keeping the cost of living low but Labor is still behind on other major election issues.

Hippies for censorship – spiked

Hippies for censorship

Brendan O’neil is little more than a Conservative, camp follower desperate for crumbs and attention spinning his misinformed message. He’s little more than a UK Andrew Bolt or a writer for the Spectator praising Spotify and singing” all’s well with the world” in this free market paradise of ideas. You will find you can find O’neil as a guest on all Murdoch’s globally corporate Goebellian propaganda media.

Hippies are the most disappointing subculture, aren’t they? They always let you down. They cut their hair, become therapists or corporate sustainability advisers, and before you know it these people who wanged on about Woodstock for 50 years are being paid a fortune by The Man to badger me and you. Just look at Neil Young. The one-time cocaine-stained hero of LA’s alternative scene, singer of angry songs about Vietnam and the Kent State massacre, participant with Crosby, Stills and Nash in the Freedom of Speech Tour of 2006, is now basically pleading with a huge corporation to silence people he doesn’t like. From protest singer to agitator for capitalist censorship? What a fall.

Who am I talking to? – » The Australian Independent Media Network

How is it that Dr. Wilson sounds as if she stands shoulder to shoulder with Andrew Bolt when I’m sure she doesn’t intend to? Bolt likened Greta Thurnberg to an irresponsible misguided mentally ill child. A victim of dark forces, a troll on the global landscape who gained attention and recognition for what she “isnt” and adult. In fact, she gave rise to children around the world “not knowing their place and rebelling”.

“Free Speech” let loose by technology doesn’t need policing it certainly has changed the landscape and open it up. Smashing through the once traditional cultural barriers that are there “ageism”, “gender” “Race” and “Class” are just some examples. Trolling however, is a petty issue compared to the potential benefits Twitter and Social media offer. Algorithms for profit are far more dangerous as is government control of the space. They are changing the system. The excuse that Trolls have taken over and that the space needs policing is a Duttonism. Do you cut down a forest for a tree? If the algorithms didn’t link and herd the like-minded for the purposes of profit maybe Jan 6th wouldn’t have occurred. The sideeffect of these algorithims is to put like minded peole together.

Of course “we” need to learn to cope, and learn that new process with our children but not necessarily in traditonal ways. I certainly believe our children are happier than when learning lifes coping skills in isolation because of the cultural barriers that still exist between them and their parents. How great it is for a kid to feel they are being treated as an adult an independant being rather than being told they are just a kid. They might be treated for who they are and not just a stereotype. Sure mistakes are made but can we learn anything without them? We didn’t cancel the Industrial Revolution because extended families declined and social dysfunction increased with urbanisation.

There’s a danger of throwing the baby out with the bathwater in policing the Internet, social media, and other platforms as the LNP would now like to do. They have lost the power of messaging they had with our MSM. Their grip on the message has been weakened and it bothers them. The equality of voice and communication has improved age, gender, race, class differences lessened if the algorithms didn’t simply rearrange the playing field by a design for accelerating profit.

Hopefully there’s a responsible adult somewhere in the teenager’s life who can protect and guide them through this experience. And perhaps some adults need to think a bit more deeply about risking a teenager’s well being for the sake of their notions of liberty.

Liberal or Labor, News Corp will back the winning team

This reads as a very uninformed puff piece on News Corp and Sky’s strategy as ” influencers and churnalists”, they are more than just wannabe lap dogs, much more and worse. As far back as Gough Whitlam Murdoch realized his business model was reliant on where the money came from and that was not from Labor. His investment money spent between elections was seen as a necessary expense to insure and modernise where the advertising dollars flowed every three or four years depending on the country. Yes, elections here have always been his tri-annual influencer’s payout for media and he has always wanted  the bulk of what was spent. Labor had X5-10 times less money spent on political promotion than the LNP, who had the direct backing of donors, the IPA, and the likes of Clive, Hanson and other sattelite right-wingers. So Murdoch isn’t about to even seem to change horses to attract a lesser payout. His business model is American and it dictates he won’t change too randomly. When Abbott was losing in Warringah News Corp was tossing the Teleraph over fences gratis.

Thus, it’s not hard to imagine that if the polls stay trending thusly or if new scandals emerge around Morrison’s remaining frontbench, that a few more generous pieces about Albanese will start to get published. Perhaps some editorials will explain how Labor had learned the lessons of the disastrous Rudd/Gillard/Shorten years and that they’ve abandoned their nutty leftism and are finally behaving like economically-responsible grown-ups. Whatever threadbare excuse they use to justify switching their support, it’ll be a placeholder for “because they’re going to win and we want to make them think we were responsible for that”. And when that happens, it’ll be all over bar the belligerent Morrisonian shouting — not because News anoints our leader, but because the team at News are masters of jumping on the winning horse and pretending to have been riding it all along.

Scott Morrison, whose COVID face masks have the Australian flag emblazoned on them, likes to talk about “the Australian way” of doing things and Australian values. But it is not “the Australian way” to secretly plan, over a very long time, to deceive a close friend of this country, and then to treat them in a most humiliating and disdainful manner. That does not align with “Australian values” of honesty and fair dealing.

Fox News’ critical race theory obsession | Media Matters for America

Fox became a pipeline for attacks on the study of systemic racism

In its ongoing 11 month smear of critical race theory, Fox News has mentioned the topic no less than 552 times. Fox’s coverage began in the summer of 2020, focusing on schools attempting to fold anti-racism teachings into their curricula. First, Fox’s opinion side hosted Christopher Rufo, an anti-civil rights activist who has targeted critical race theory, and ginned up controversy over purposeful misreadings of the approach — before the network’s self-described “news” side took over to report on state attempts to ban the study of systemic racism in classrooms. The network’s coverage steadily climbed in 2021 and featured a massive spike in April, with 235 mentions in that month alone.

Democracy is and always will be at a tipping point. It’s a process that needs to be respected by at least a majority

While Putin is arrresting 1000’s of it’s citizens Pravda is crying corocodile tears, no real tears, for its asset lost Donald. Will the Russians finance his incompetence amplifying theirs?

They’re beholden to dark forces controlling them. Will martial law be declared ahead on the phony pretext of foreign threats and domestic terrorism to counter? Will what remains of a free and open society be replaced by full-blown totalitarian rule, enforced by police state harshness? Make no mistake. Biden/Harris and members of their regime are enemies of ordinary people, hostile to their interests, wanting them exploited, not served. Along with likely escalated foreign aggression against one or more invented enemies, homeland despotism will likely harden on their watch for our own good we’ll likely be told.

No one knows what a right-wing politician means when they say ‘un-Australian’ in the present, least of all the politician saying it. It is not even a negation, but blanker than that. It reduces the meaning of Australian-ness down to whatever might, or might not, live inside the unconscious borders of the speaker at that particular time. ‘This is so postmodern’, I thought, the first time I heard one of the crazies say it, and I could almost smell the stale Union beer.
