Right-Wingers: Carlson Gets A Pass Since Media Matters Used... Research!

Media Matters has now released clips and transcripts of Tucker Carlson making racist remarks on a shock-jock radio show, a day after exposing Carlson’s misogynistic and pro-pedophilia remarks on the same show. But according to conservatives, everything Carlson said should be ignored by the public — not because the clips and quotes are fake (they aren’t), and not because they’re out of context (they aren’t), but because they were discovered using (gasp!) research.

Here’s Mike LaChance at William Jacobson’s blog, Legal Insurrection:

These audio clips didn’t just fall out of the sky. The people at Media Matters went looking for them. They sat and combed through hours of audio looking for something to use to target Tucker and his Fox News show.

So these clips are fruits from a poison tree! They should be stricken from the record!

Rising corruption and coal – » The Australian Independent Media Network

In this recent South African case we see yet another example of corruption between government connected people and the coal Industry. Trying to prop up a dying industry requires desperate measures and the hunt is on for pollies open to “incentives” to promote their product.

Australia finds itself in exactly this position and personally, I want to see a Federal ICAC in place to deal with the growing influence being exerted by the Coal industry because things are only going to get worse. Clearly the product is already too expensive and smoke appears to be seeping out from under under the door leading to the Coalition Party Room. I’m sure there’s a fire in there somewhere.

How the Trump Era Lays Bare the Tension in the Marriage Between Conservatism and Capitalism

Reflecting on the period of the Great Depression, the conservative writer Peter Viereck once wrote that the United States at that time had been “a revolutionary powder keg, needing only a spark.” That the spark never came was a testament to American society’s ability to pull back from the brink and implement policies that extended both wealth and opportunity beyond a small elite. As the global economy staggers from one crisis to the next, the future direction of politics in the West may end up depending on whether a new consensus can be reached on how to ameliorate the harms inflicted by a rampaging free market — and from there, build a vision of the future that more people find worth defending.

“There is a real potential now for a change in the conservative position on whether to regulate the harsher aspects of the market. If you look at the politics of young people today, they tend to widely share a more critical perspective on the question of what capitalism has delivered for society,” said Kolozi. “I don’t think conservatives will become socialists, ever. But a much more regulated capitalism is something that they are going to have to seriously think about accepting in the foreseeable future.”

Tony Abbott fires warning shot at Coalition over energy policy

How Abbott, how conservative the policy has to be ” a point of difference” rather than any national Interest that needs solving. This response is so typical of why Captain Nope Abbott lead us in a race to the bottom when he was PM.Back then he did it with fake news and fully assisted by Murdoch’s News Corp. He’s not interested in problem-solving for a Nation just himself and his side, which are in fact one and the same. He took us to a place we hadn’t ever been before. A Global political outlier, a joke and yes he wants us back there today. Craig Kelly has taken the words from Abbott’s mouth. (ODT)

Liberal MP Craig Kelly also spoke during the Tuesday debate to argue that energy policy had to remain a point of difference between the Coalition and Labor.

Australia’s China Syndrome – » The Australian Independent Media Network

China

“I share it with the house because I believe it to be in the national interest. My duty, first and foremost, is to the Australian people and the preservation of the ideals and democratic traditions of our Commonwealth.” The Chinese Communist Party, Hastie claimed, was “working to covertly interfere with our media, our universities and also influence our political processes and public debates”.

While such revelations are delivered with a sense of heavy moral responsibility, much of it is stretched. Trade Minister Steve Ciobo was almost dismissive in claiming that the content was hardly novel. Turnbull dumped some cold water on Hastie’s fire by claiming that “the specific allegations that were made… were not new.” But getting on the China bandwagon of condemnation is all the rage. Parliament has already sought to curb that vague and immeasurable term “influence” with legislation that muddies rather than clears the water. When the National Security Legislation Amendment (Espionage and Foreign Interference) Bill 2017 was introduced, it signalled a new front in an inchoate war that, on closer inspection, merely looks like a good stab at civil liberties and an attempt to harness paranoia.

Guy under pressure to allow gay ‘conversion’ therapy for kids

Other motions to be debated at state council include:

Calls for the Commonwealth Sex Discrimination Act to re-insert “man” and “woman” in the place of “sexual orientation” and “gender identity”. The aim is that a person will define their gender as either male or female, according to their biological and reproductive function.
Calls to ban the Safe Schools program from Victorian schools and any other curriculum teaching a person’s gender may be different from their biological sex or that people can transition.

UK Conservatives are embracing a future without coal-fired power stations – ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

The Dirty Pro- Coal Speeches Abbott gave in Britian had no effect on the enviroment.

As Tony Abbott and other prominent Coalition MPs make the case that Australia should be building new coal-fired power stations, Conservatives in Britain are pushing a very different agenda.

The Tory Government wants to end the use of unabated coal in the UK within seven years, and the policy is being driven by Claire Perry — the cabinet minister responsible for energy policy, who believes environmentalism is not a philosophy exclusively owned by the green-left.

“Conservatism to me is about protecting what you inherit and improving it,” Ms Perry told the ABC.

“So whether it’s making sure the economy is robust for the next generation or whether it’s about stewarding this beautiful environment that we live in, that for me is the essence of my conservatism.”

Conservatives have been at the forefront of action on climate change in Britain for decades.

Don’t look to Trump for leadership after the Florida school shooting | Richard Wolffe | Opinion | The Guardian

It’s so heartwarming to hear this from the man who promised to end “this American carnage” in his inaugural address. Of course, at the time he was talking about gang murders, just as he did in his State of the Union address last month.

He must have forgotten to mention school shootings with assault weapons, like the AR-15 used at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas high school in Parkland, Florida. It was the same assault weapon used at the Sutherland Springs church in Texas in November. It was the same assault weapon used in the Las Vegas massacre the month before that.

It’s as if no politician could talk about protecting airplane cockpits after 9/11 because all we could was pray and send our condolences.

Orlando massacre: ‘ISIS capitalizing on lone-wolf attacks inspired by terror propaganda’ — RT Op-Edge

Islamic State’s claim of responsibility for the Orlando mass shooting may be nothing more than a propaganda move to capitalize on a massacre perpetrated by a lone-wolf attacker who could have had no direct links to the terror group, security experts told RT.
