Recent court disclosures prove it beyond a shadow of a doubt: Fox News knowingly lies to its audiences. But corporate media is fundamentally a vehicle for profit-making, which means that both right-wing and liberal outlets have an incentive to lie.
Anyone who’s paying attention knows the behavior of the U.S. war machine is as relevant to Australians as it is to Americans, writes Caitlin Johnstone.
Murdoch media has a documented history of hacking the private lives of people it believes it can profit from. It’s closure of The News of the World, employees jailed, and Murdoch being grilled in the UK are proof that the Murdochs have maintained their unethical practices. It seems the organization has maintained hacking as a tool by which it gathers information to help those like Linda Reynolds. It’s hard to imagine it was Linda Reynolds who provided the information that was published in the Australian?
The Weekend Australian referred to the former political staffer’s diary contents in an interview with her ex-boss Senator Linda Reynolds on Saturday.
Responding to the article, Ms Higgins said it was the third time The Australian had published “private images, texts and WhatsApps from my phone”.
What the Murdoch’s claim to be “news” almost had Rupert jailed in the UK. He sacrificed a paper and staff then fled to the US to repeat his methods and there.
In 2020, Fox News anchors Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity pushed Donald Trump’s election fraud claims for weeks. New documents suggest they never believed any of it.
Top Fox News executives and hosts privately trashed the false election claims they aired but worried that fact-checking TrumpWorld’s lies would hurt their “stock price” and anger former President Donald Trump, according to texts and emails cited in a bombshell court filing by Dominion Voting Systems, which filed a $1.6 billion defamation lawsuit against the network.
In the latest escalation in Australia’s increasingly forceful campaign to manufacture consent for war with China, the Murdoch-owned Sky News Australia has aired a jaw-droppingly propagandistic hour-long special which advocates a dramatic increase in the nation’s military spending.
Billionaire Twitter owner Elon Musk offered a scornful dismissal of the news media on Saturday, tweeting, “Some of the smartest people I know actively believe the press … amazing.”
But the following night, TV cameras captured him hanging out in a Super Bowl box with Rupert Murdoch, perhaps the single most powerful media mogul on the planet. The latter’s empire includes a slew of major newspapers and TV news networks on three continents; his U.S. assets include the New York Post and The Wall Street Journal, Fox News — the nation’s most-watched cable news network — numerous Fox-owned and -operated broadcast stations, and the Fox broadcast network that aired Sunday’s game. Musk’s actions may seem like hypocrisy or oversight, but they actually fit into a consistent strategy — one Murdoch himself knows well.
Chief executive Robert Thomson described the challenges facing the media company, which locally owns The Australian, The Daily Telegraph and The Herald Sun as “more ephemeral than eternal”, but said the company was introducing a range of cost-cutting measures, including a 5 per cent reduction in head count – or 1250 positions across the business. This masthead revealed earlier this week News Corp Australia was planning to cut about $20 million in costs by 2025.
Over the past several days Fox networks have aired numerous segments insinuating that the recent deaths of whales across New York and New Jersey beaches are due to the development of offshore wind turbines.
One of Rupert and Lachlan Murdoch’s defences from any personal liability in the court cases is that in their management roles, they do not tell journalists what to say.
But in the below video, Lachlan Murdoch says that he “works closely with the managers of those newsrooms and it’s important they get the positioning and the messaging right”. Those “managers” would be the editors who work directly with the journalists overseeing what the journalists write. So Lachlan by his own admission is only one step away from directly telling the journalists what to write.
“I’m completely in favor of a Bay of Pigs operation to liberate that country,” Carlson said. “Why should we stand back and let our biggest trading partner, the country with which we share the longest border — a great country — why should we let it become Cuba?”
(Canada is not a communist country nor does it have any chance of being one.)
“Like, why don’t we liberate it? We’re spending all this money to liberate Ukraine from the Russians, why are we not sending an armed force north to liberate Canada from Trudeau, and I mean it?” Carlson chimed.
She also admits her favourite news access point is listening daily to the ABC
It was Madeleine Albright who said “There’s a special place in hell for women who don’t help other women”. It’s not a view to which I uncritically subscribe. There are many women whose awfulness warrants opprobrium irrespective of their gender – witness the Coalition front bench – but there is a certain type of woman who takes her woman-bashing cause so seriously, for whom each tiny increment of female advancement seems both a personal affront and threat to civilisation, that her special place in hell surely awaits.
The mainstream media’s desperate bid to disgrace Victorian Premier Dan Andrews has revealed the absolute lunatic depths News Corp will sink to, writes Dr Victoria Fielding.
Right-wing billionaire Rupert Murdoch’s media outlets are pleading for the Republican Party to move on from former President Donald Trump after a disappointing midterm showing by the GOP.
Rupert Murdoch has taken the first steps to reunite the media empire he split into two stand-alone companies – News Corp and Fox Corp – only nine years ago.
If a deal goes through, the combination will allow Murdoch greater control over his media assets and help the companies trim costs.
The combined companies would have around $US24 billion ($A38 billion) in revenue.
The Biggest Fantasy Show in Australia’s News Industry. The Murdoch News Corp’s own News Awards. Always presented before the Media’s true event the Wakeleys
Fri 14 Oct 2022 14.11 AEDT There’s one thing guaranteed at the annual “prestigious” News awards for journalism. A News Corp Australia journalist will win every category. Judged by News Corp editors, and usually attended by Rupert and/or Lachlan Murdoch, the in-house awards will be handed out across company mastheads at a gala ceremony on 8 November.
Tucker Carlson standards are set and approved by by Lachlan Murdoch and News Corp. Otherwise he’d simply not be there.
here’s a telling example involving Tucker Carlson, the Fox News prime-time host who stands above all others as the face of that network.
While other networks were carrying Biden’s speech on Thursday, Carlson lashed out at him, then mischaracterized the remarks to his viewers as the president claiming “anyone who disagrees with him is a threat to the country.” Based on that false characterization, Carlson termed Biden’s remarks “very dangerous,” “totally immoral,” and “truly nuts and threatening to the future of the United States.”
Carlson was still using his fabricated version of Biden’s comments to frighten and anger his viewers five nights later. On Tuesday, he lashed out at cable news commentators who had praised the speech.
In declining order of trust: The Age, SMH, Guardian online, News com.au, Sky News, Herald Sun and Daily Telegraph come below the 50% mark with Sky News boasting the highest don’t trust rating. Would someone please remind us who owns the four at the bottom of the trust scale?
With the ABC neutered these past decade and Murdoch media, Ch9 and other mainstream organizations tied to the Government and it’s donors for financial gain political media in this country holds any oppositions to account rather than the Government. Democracy is no longer being served and an autocracy is encouraged to flourish. Grass roots politics brought an end to the slippery slide and has temporarily allowed the nation to catch its breathe.
Revelations about Scott Morrison’s power-grab of five secret ministries raise serious questions about the health of Australian media and in turn, the media’s commitment to contribute to a strong democracy.
The core function of political media is to hold power to account. The fact that former Prime Minister Scott Morrison was able to secretly sign himself in as co-minister in the portfolios of health, finance, resources, treasury and home affairs, in collusion with the Governor-General, speaks volumes of journalists’ unwillingness to scrutinise the powerful.
Lachlan Murdoch CEO of his family interests claims the Murdoch’s aren’t running a Trump/GOP/ Extreme Right Agenda In the US. He’s threatening to sue journalists in Australia who claim the Murdoch’s were co-conspirators in the Jan 6th riots, why? Because Australian law says he can. Even though Murdoch media’s Fox News were named apologists and even deniers that a riot had even taken place. The Murdoch’s have always denied any moral responsibility for anything their organisation does and even uses the laws of countries as a smokescreen. In fact his father Rupert Murdoch aided in breaking the laws in the UK and came close to being jailed saved only by the right-wing of the Tory Party.
News Corp’s Sky News Australia were cut off by the NZ government because they were more than eager to keep shooting the Christchurch massacre of Muslims “live”. When asked to stop they didn’t because there organisation doesn’t exist there. The Murdoch’s run their global media organisation not as a News organisation but as thugs, propagandists and influencers for sale to a narrow set of political and financial interests and are currently fighting a profitable but losing political battle. They more than anyone have lowered the bench mark for news and information in a Democracy and raised fake news as the hallmark in it’s place
Fox News prime-time host Tucker Carlson has long been at the forefront of pushing the deadly “great replacement” conspiracy theory, seeking to bring an idea from the white nationalist fringe into the mainstream of American political discourse. In the latest ominous sign, both Carlson and the network’s supposedly “straight news” programming are pushing his ideas for the Republicans’ midterm platform, a development that should raise alarm bells given the long history of Fox News controlling the Republican agenda.
It has been almost two years since Kevin Rudd uploaded a video to his social media channels calling Rupert Murdoch an “arrogant cancer on our democracy” and invited Australians to sign his petition for a royal commission into media dive
rsity. It gathered half a million signatures, including that of former Liberal prime minister Malcolm Turnbull, and triggered a year-long Senate committee inquiry that concentrated its focus on the influence of Murdoch’s News Corp empire.
How naive is this analysis given Murdoch’s spread and history. Has there been any noticeable movement on Fox News that he’s turned his back on Trump?
July 24, 2022This is what it looks like when Rupert Murdoch decides that Donald Trump isn’t going to be the Republican nominee in 2024. Both the NY Post and the Wall Street Journal ran editorials condemning Trump for his actions and inaction on January 6 in the span of a few minutes of each other.
However not the same can be said of Fox. Is Murdoch hedging his bets he hates picking losers? The cat and mouse game. Remember Murdoch is adept at gaming the public not his customers that provide.
Instead of making excuses or changing the subject, as some conservative commentators have done, the Journal’s editorial said Trump “failed” to do his duty as commander in chief. The Post’s editorial page, which wrote last month that “we need a fresh start” with “a new crop of conservatives,” went further in its editorial after Thursday’s prime time hearing. “It’s up to the Justice Department to decide if this is a crime,” the Post said. “But as a matter of principle, as a matter of character, Trump has proven himself unworthy to be this country’s chief executive again.”
Murdoch Media sets the lowest global standard for media in the English-speaking world
With its recent commentaries on a terrible rape case in Ohio, The Wall Street Journal’s editorial board has demonstrated yet again that it exists simply to put a seemingly respectable face on the most disgusting vitriol from right-wing political circles.
reporting now confirms that the story was true all along. Around noon on Wednesday, Columbus Dispatch reporter Bethany Bruner published an article confirming that Gershon Fuentes, an undocumented man living in the Columbus area, had been charged with the rape of the 10-year-old girl. The crime is a first-degree felony in Ohio. Bruner noted on Twitter that she was the only reporter in the courtroom covering the story.
Murdoch media stands out as central to the reporting of the denial that this event even occurred and is given the freedom to do so without verification or testing of the facts. Might is right the loudest voice doesn’t always win but is never smothered.
The Washington Post, the conservative Daily Caller and other media outlets published stories saying that the case was unverified. The Wall Street Journal Editorial page suggested the story was a “fanciful tale.” The National Review’s Michael Brendan Dougherty referred to the case as “a fictive abortion and a fictive rape.” Republican Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost went on Fox News Monday to raise further doubts.
It’s incredibly disturbing that the default position of so many sick and twisted people — including Ohio’s most prominent Republican elected officials — is to very vocally and very publicly question whether the rape and impregnation of a 10-year-old child ever happened.
This case was never implausible. In 2020, the most recent year for which statistics are available, 52 girls aged 14 and younger had abortions in Ohio, according to the state department of health. A review of just the city of Columbus’ police log since March 15 uncovered 59 reports of sexual assaults of girls 15 and younger that, based on the information available, could have resulted in pregnancy.
In Australia it’s “teachers in Government Schools are Marxists” who encourage sexual fluidity and are grooming our children. Dutton has announced it as his central campaign as leader of the Opposition
Anyone familiar with how Fox News gradually warms its audience up to an idea could see it coming. First, the network ran endless segments hyping the myth that school teachers were training kindergarteners to hate white people with something called “critical race theory.” Next came false claims that schools that accept LGBTQ teachers and students were “grooming” children to be sexually abused by pedophiles. Having implanted the idea that public schools are a scary place turning their grandkids into self-loathing sexual perverts, the end game was finally rolled out during the popular primetime program “The Ingraham Angle”: It’s time to end public education entirely.
I am not a fan of Rupert Murdoch’s subscription TV service, Sky News Australia. It is a low-budget, down-market clone of the reactionary Sky News in the UK, which was the major media booster of the Brexit calamity courtesy of regular promotion of windbag Nigel Farage.
Sky Australia takes some inspiration from the UK but more from its other toxic sibling, Fox News in the US, infamous for enabling Donald Trump’s appalling regime and his attempted coup.
I had my share of venomous exchanges with the Sky crew and their self-important ranters, the bottom feeders of the Australian media. Imagine my surprise when they asked me to participate in a documentary.
Even before the Albanese government was certain that it would have a clear majority, the Sky News chorus had begun baying about the “mad left” taking power. What the madness constitutes is never quite made clear. It is “vibe” rather than diagnosis.
It is not to be dismissed because of that inexactitude. This is another echo of the games deriving from the American right where the so-called left is essentially unfit to hold office; only the right can form a legitimate government. The fear-mongering underpins the attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021, as well as the continuing efforts to “stop the steal.”
It is further developed in the US. The intertwining of the religious right with the Republican Party has given an Evangelical (Pentecostal) infusion to the mix. In the Spiritual Warfare battle between good and evil that must be won for Jesus to return, Jesus votes Republican and the “left” is a demonic force obstructing him
It’s the business of “Cash For Comment”. In Murdoch’s world “Show Me Your Money” comes first, last , and is the determinator of the long term policy.
As the country reels from yet another horrific mass shooting, right-wing media outlets like Rupert Murdoch’s Fox News are doing all they can to halt any progress on reforming the country’s gun laws. But a totally different story is being told in Australia — the original home of the Murdoch family’s media empire — where Murdoch outlets have instead touted the importance of gun safety, and are now highlighting the dangerous conditions of gun proliferation in the United States.
Murdoch’s news channel in Australia has celebrated the country’s gun control laws — and expressed hope that the U.S. would adopt similar ones
Paranoia sells, and Rupert Murdoch’s Fox News enterprise likes to scare the hell out of its viewers for fun and profit if there’s good money to be made — especially when it’s got skin in the game. But this time the political stakes are much higher than usual: America’s future as a democracy is on the line.
Imagine, all those Sky After Dark urban cowboys have now turned to a National-Liberal coalition with Barnaby their hero? No! Peter Dutton has to be the leader of the new N-LP and go regional, according to Murray, Credlin, Bolt, and Dean who have got on their imaginary horses turned red-faced, and become country/city Nationals.
Their claim the “moderates lost the election even though not One Nation, UAP candidate won a seat and the Greens even made history in country Qld. In fact, while the Right went backward not forward everywhere the bozos at Sky now claim the road to recovery is back to Climate denial. Rowan Dean was even seen on The Outsiders trying to show us how the planet was really “cooling” and has been since 2015. None of these idiots would ever dare be seen telling farmers that Climate Change is just an urban hoax. Andrew Bolt keeps telling me he has raised in country Australia and fell out of a tree and has never climbed back up to where he belongs.
Its cast of “after dark” shock jocks, fresh from supporting Scott Morrison, have quickly turned carnivorous as the Coalition’s post-election bloodletting hits fever pitch.
Moderates such as NSW Treasurer Matt Kean and Senator Andrew Bragg – a “fool” in the view of host Andrew Bolt – are now nightly targets for derision as a stream of conservative leaders and party apparatchiks appear on the channel for polling post-mortems.
In the world curated by these Fox-News inspired talk shows, last week’s election drubbing (the worst result for the Liberals in 70 years) wasn’t a sign that the Coalition must finally get serious about climate policies.
Rather, despite being thrown out of every seat with a view of Sydney Harbour, conservatives like Mr Bolt, Peta Credlin and Paul Murray argue the Coalition must actually swing to the right and chase regional voters.
ABC kills the Commercials
Slow and steady wins election ratings
The ABC’s election coverage has emerged triumphant, winning the competitive Saturday night race against the commercials by a huge margin as well as getting a significant bump in audience on Sunday and Monday as audiences looked to Aunty for post-election news and analysis.
Antony Green, who is a large part of the ABC’s election appeal, has admitted he was a bit cautious to call the result on the night as a result of the complexity of vote.
The ABC’s election analyst told the Age: “We probably should have said earlier on the night that the government couldn’t win.”
Looking for blame in all the wrong places is looking to distract from reality and it’s Murdoch and Carlson intent
“Oh, so the lockdowns dramatically increase the incidence of mental illness among young people and in 10 days, we’ve seen two mass shootings by mentally ill young people. Could there be a connection?” he asked. “Now, that’s not finger-pointing. It’s not to blame [Dr. Anthony] Fauci for yesterday’s shooting. We’re not that low. We’re not Joe Biden. But if people are becoming mentally ill because they’re disconnected from others, what can we do to connect them to others and thereby reduce the incidence of mental illness? That’s a real conversation.”
Today’s white supremacists tend to wear expensive suits and to work out of corporate or political offices. You will find more than a few at 1211 Avenue of the Americas in New York City, which is the headquarters of News Corp and its subsidiary Fox Corp, and in the big white building that sits atop of Capitol Hill in Washington DC. All these men and women, without exception, are firmly within the Republican Party.
Andrew Bolt denies he’s a racist yet he’s been spouting the same things as Carlson for years. “Muslims are trying to replace us” “Africans don’t belong” ” “CRT is being preached in schools” and “Multiculturalism was Australia’s biggest mistake” .” Whites are the victims of Racism”. Peter Dutton, Tudge, Robert, and the Liberal Party generally have politicized anti-Muslim and anti-colored sentiments and have been doing it for years. These boat people ” Throw children overboard” In fact, Scott Morrison is using the same tactics today as he used to get himself elected to represent the LNP in Cook. This time around choosing Katherine Deeves to represent the LNP in Warringah and turn her into a national political debate.
In 2018, Carlson blamed ethnic diversity for “radically and permanently changing our country” and questioned its value: “I don’t see that diversity is the strength of our country — why don’t you explain it to me?” In his manifesto, which does not mention Carlson by name, the Buffalo terrorist echoed Carlson’s viewpoint: “Diversity is not a strength. Why is diversity said to be our greatest strength? Does anyone even ask why? No one can give an answer.” Carlson helped popularize the far-right ideology that coincided seamlessly with the rhetoric of Republican Party members who also describe immigrants seeking asylum as an invasion or infestation. On America’s most-watched cable news show, Carlson warned viewers that Democrats want “demographic replacement” through a “flood of illegals” in order to increase their voter base.
Murdoch Practice. In the UK criminal phone taps anything to get ahead of the competion. In US largely PR staging Interviews & promoting Republican interests while trashing the Dems. In Australia, simply being the largest private player in the nation’s quid pro quo cash for comment business.
On Friday, CNN reported that Fox News anchor Maria Bartiromo supplied former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows with questions in advance of interviewing former President Donald Trump.
Mother Jones’ David Corn obtained a March 3 memo produced by a Russian government agency and distributed by the Kremlin to Russian media outlets instructing broadcasters to use as many clips of Fox primetime host Tucker Carlson as possible.
The persistense in delivering false and intended misinformation to Americans on Climate, pollutants and vaccinations has resulted in the unnecessary deaths of thousands. “Jump off the Empire State Building you wont die” isn’t an opinion it’s tantamount to murder when broadcast over and over again phishing for those that will listen. False advertising is illegal, Ponzi schemes are indictable, yet Fox News can get away with murder.
USA Today’s headline contains all the contradictions: “Boosted Americans 97 times less likely to die of virus than unvaccinated; CDC predicts 75,000 more deaths by Feb. 26.” If we know the first part of the headline, why are we having all those further deaths, when boosters are free and universally available? To a large extent, the reason for all those deaths is the Republican Party. Eric Kleefeld at Media Matters shows that for-profit news organizations have been reluctant to call out the Republican Party on its deadly vaccine disinformation campaign. Fox “news” tells people that the vaccines have been a failure (they have not).
There is, and will be, no turnaround by Murdoch Media in this up and coming election. They are currently the Government’s media voice and have had an 8- year investment in place to keep the LNP in government. It’s simply their business model. The undeclared sponsorship of the L-NP voiced across Australia.
Since the start of President Joe Biden’s term, Fox News has hired at least nine editors who previously worked for former President Donald Trump’s administration, Republican campaign offices, or Republican politicians. Many of those editors now cover politics for FoxNews.com. Fox’s Republican hiring spree has come as the network has further cast aside its so-called “news” division in favor of right-wing opinion and Republican-friendly “reporting.” (The division between Fox News’ “opinion” and “news” division has always been a sham.)
Fake News, Fake Product is sold as News which you Pay for when buying Murdoch Media. The ACCC turns it’s back as does the APC. MSM Fake News is coupled with promoting and praising a Party and its political donor’s interests. Morrison is given an “A” for his “work” of not holding the hose in 2021. It’s Australia’s Shame
“The job snobs who refuse to work,” screamed the headline on page one of the Daily Telegraph. On social media the claims were even more dramatic: “Job snobs snub $100k bar work”. “Young Australians should have their welfare cut to force them off the sofa and into hospitality jobs, industry figures say,” the Tele reported. But inside Murdoch’s Sydney tabloid there was no evidence of a job offering $100,000 for bar work, no “job snobs” and no “industry figures” calling for an end to the dole. There were, however, two politicians happy to prop up the Tele’s dole-bashing article.
The very ability to keep America culturally divided is the alchemy that provides America’s Fascist Extreme Right and the those within and out of the Republican Party the power to have the tail control wag the dog. Organize chaos, extreme armed elements you have a key, control the message and you have a coup. Jan 6th was close.
The Kaiser Family Foundation has a new poll out this week, also reported on by The Washington Post, showing the alarming extent to which COVID-19 misinformation has penetrated among American adults, but particularly Republicans and people who consume right-wing media. The really scary thing: A lot of people actually believe the things they see on Fox News and further right networks like Newsmax.
Who did NZ shut down during the Christchurch massacre..Sky News
Who is promoting Jan 6th invasion of Capitol Hill ..Fox News
Who is supporting the “Big Steal” and anti-Democracy Murdoch Media.
The Murdoch press shrugged its shoulders and failed to condemn death threats against Victorian Premier Dan Andrews by protesters over the weekend. This is not the first time the mainstream media has turned a blind eye towards threats of death and violence against political leaders, as David Donovan reported in this story from 2012. YESTERDAY AFTERNOON on News Ltd’s Sky News cable TV channel, presenter David Speers interviewed John Howard’s former chief of staff, Grahame Morris — who is now a right-wing political lobbyist.
Fox News has joined the right-wing attack against Sesame Street over a TV special that ran Saturday morning on CNN to help answer kids and parents’ questions about getting vaccinated against COVID-19, which the CDC now recommends for children aged 5-11. Fox’s attacks have just served to highlight the network’s own ongoing hypocrisy — practicing safe pandemic policies internally while urging its audience to resist those measures as part of a destructive culture war.
As much as it pains me and no doubt Andrew Bolt he’s only runner up to the worst of the worst at Sky. He never seems to get a gong for anything. The 80-year-old from Sydney beat him by lengths and Rown Dean was also near to making him an also-ran.
Sky News has just spent the Day 2 of News Corp’s climate action campaign showing worrying statistics that suggest an alarming number of Australians are misinformed on climate change and the facts regarding the importance of climate action, leading to the network asking how the so many Aussies could be so misinformed on such a serious issue? We know it could be hard for Sky News to find these since they have scrubbed the pushback against climate action from the transcripts of their coverage, here are our picks of some of the best possible culprits to blame for this situation.
Media giants NineFax and News Corp have lost their High Court case seeking a “get-out-of-gaol-free” card in relation to defamatory material published on their social media pages. Dr Martin Hirst says there’s no surprise in the decision.
There is no greater need th our education system than learning the skills of Critical Thinking. Skills which the extreme Right in the world want done away with and replaced by their absolutist dogmas and facts like “the Steal” “CRT” ” Anti-vax” “Covid Hoax” etc etc etc
In the same post defending Breivik, the Norwegian terrorist who killed 77 people at a summer camp, Yarvin compares Breivik to Nelson Mandela: “No one who condones Che, Stalin, Mao, or any other leftist murderer, has any right to ask anyone else to dissociate himself from a rightist who didn’t even make triple digits. ABB is a terrorist. Nelson Mandela is a terrorist. … If you ask me to condemn Anders Breivik, but adore Nelson Mandela, perhaps you have a mother you’d like to fuck.”
