Trump tweets support for far-right figures banned by Facebook | US news | The Guardian

Facebook has banned the conspiracy theorist Alex Jones from its platform.

Many of the accounts affected by Thursday’s announcement had already been banned from other social media sites. For instance, pages relating to Infowars were removed from Facebook but until now the conspiracist news site had been allowed to maintain an account on sister service Instagram.

Yiannopoulos, a former Breitbart News employee, had already been banned by Twitter and Facebook but the decision to remove his Instagram account means his only mainstream social media outlet will now be on YouTube.

The change in attitudes suggests Facebook is adopting a more consistent approach across all its platforms. The company has recently specifically banned white supremacist material from its service and has come under increased pressure to act against such content following the Christchurch terror attack, which was livestreamed on its network.

There is a divide between Free Speech and Propaganda. Not all Advertising is deemed Free in the USA. The Freedom and responsibility is Facebook’s and Instagram’s to choose. If Rupert Murdoch has that right so then does Zuckerberg. Advertisers also have an equal right to stop advertising on the Tucker Carlson show when they come to realize what it is he’s advertising off their backs. (ODT)

The policies Republicans smear as Stalinist are a good deal more popular than their own. By Jim Hightower | May 1, 2019

“Socialism,” snarled Donald Trump at a recent pep rally of far-right Republicans. The obedient crowd of Trumpistas snarled back in unison: So-sh’ll-izz-ummm!

There you have the entire intellectual content of the GOP’s 2020 re-election strategy under Generalissimo Trump: Slap Democrats with a scurrilous campaign branding them as Lenin-Trotsky-Stalin re-incarnate.

It’s not just Trump hissing out the socialist label in a frantic McCarthyesque attempt to make it stick by mindless repetition, but also Republican lawmakers. Unfortunately for them, they’re overplaying a weak hand and bumbling over their own ignorance.

Texas Senator John Cornyn, for example, compared Democrats who support ideas like Medicare-for-All to Mussolini.

Apparently, Cornyn is unaware that the brutish Italian dictator was no socialist, but a fascist. Mussolini’s ideology of ultra-nationalism, masculine authoritarianism, suppression of democratic rights, and rule by wealthy elites is the opposite of the progressive agenda. Indeed, it describes the policies of — guess who? — Trump and his acolytes, including Cornyn!

A former Commonwealth Bank executive alleges he was bullied and sacked after blowing the whistle on a system that allowed staff to artificially boost their bonus pay by making false claims about introducing bank products to customers.

Timothy Richard Cradock was employed as an executive manager overseeing group strategy and international financial services and received a salary of $221,470 plus an incentive payment of $143,500 in his final year of work. His contract provided incentives potentially worth up to $205,000 in 2012. He was also general manager for migrant and multicultural, retail banking services

Australians accepting of migrants but negative towards Islam, poll finds | World news | The Guardian

Lakemba mosque

Since 2006 Australian studies showed anti-Muslim sentiment increased from 9% to 30% a new Study indicates it has increased even more to 50%. Why the change? Far -right conservatives have created this widened gap with the rise of Tony Abbott as PM along with the help of the Murdoch media. All however refuse to accept responsibility for being that primary cause of this change. They claim they simply reflect what is.

Over 3000 anti- Islam articles were written in the Herald Sun alone in 2017. We saw the media involvement in the 2005 Cronulla Riots. Andrew Bolt like Alan Jones Pauline Hanson has been a leading Islamophobic voice. Their religious, racist, ethnic, and cultural vilification can’t be denied any longer as a spurr and enablement of right-wing terrorist and racist behaviour by Australians towards those of the Islmic faith.

Theirs is an action not of free speech but an action of hate a concerted action in the form of speech to alter peoples political behaviors. They are recruiters of far right extremism and ought to be named and treated as such. They are just as responsible a ISIS media is in enabling terror. They have had a greater impact here in Australia than seen elsewhere, Shame on us!! (ODT)

Islam and other religions

51% of Australians had unfavourable sentiments towards Islam, and only 10% looked upon the religion positively, making Australia more negative than 17 of the other 22 countries surveyed.

In fact, 37% of people said they were “very unfavourable”– the most negative response available. This was far higher than the milder option of “fairly unfavourable” (14%), and made it the single most common response to the religion. 23% of people were neutral.

I invest in my health and don’t regard it as a cost. The cost is what happens if I don’t (ODT)

Think about this. If we fail to act and disaster results, then massive suffering will have been aggravated by stupidity.

The greatest hoax ever perpetrated on societies around the world is that it’s about costs. About which parties policy will cost less. It is not. It is about who has the best policy.

We all incur a cost for the upkeep of our health. Why then should we not be liable for the cost of a healthy planet?

We should first acknowledge that the science tells us that we need at least a 45% or more reduction.

Secondly, we need to ask ourselves what party has the most efficient and effective way of reaching the target.

US Attorney-General William Barr is facing calls to resign for orchestrating a “public relations effort” to minimise the political damage of the Mueller report to President Donald Trump and providing misleading answers to Congress.

On Tuesday, local time, it was revealed that special counsel Robert Mueller had written to Barr objecting to the way he had summarised his report into Russian election interference in an initial four-page memo released to the public in March.

Senator Hanson is, in a supreme irony, attempting to play the victim in order to distract from the fundamental political incompetence that she displayed in selecting her candidates. Donald Trump is big on Twitter, but are Democrats now beating him at his own game? – Donald Trump’s America – ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

In simple terms, the interaction rate is a calculation of how many likes and retweets you get compared with your number of tweets and followers.

Think of it as a proxy for how much people are vibing with your content.

And Mr Trump  is going backwards — dropping from 0.27 per cent over the previous 12-month period.

So as the President racks up followers, he’s not necessarily gaining new supporters.

In all, Mr Trump comes 16th for interaction rate compared with all the declared Democrat candidates.

In a country like the United States that doesn’t have compulsory voting, one of the key challenges for a candidate is to get voters engaged and to the ballot box.

Mr Trump might enjoy having millions of followers, but that doesn’t mean much if they’re peppered across the world and made up of looky-loos and journalists on the POTUS beat.

If a rival politician with even a fraction of the followers can mobilise an engaged base on social media, it could build.

Pompeo tweeted the following: “Today interim president Juan Guaido (sic) announced start of Operacion Libertad (sic). The US Government fully supports the Venezuelan people in their quest for freedom and democracy (sic). Democracy cannot be defeated (sic).”

Not to be left out, John Bolton tweeted: “Venezuelans have made clear that the current path toward democracy is irreversible (sic). Venezuela’s military has a choice: embrace democracy (sic), protect civilians and members of the democratically-elected National Assembly (sic), or face more man-made suffering and isolation (sic).”

Venezuela’s Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza denounced the Trump regime’s latest coup plot chapter, especially remarks by Pompeo, saying he “makes a spectacle of diplomacy, by promoting and financing a violent coup in Venezuela. Washington’s obsession with controlling Venezuela’s oil wealth leads them to clumsiness.”

On Tuesday, over two dozen police blocked the entrance to Venezuela’s Washington embassy, intending to forcefully seize it and arrest defenders inside.

The assault on the embassy is happening on the same day as the Trump regime latest coup attempt efforts in Venezuela.
