Fearmongering making voice debate difficult: Pocock
Like Trump confusion is the LNP’s weapon of choice when it comes to politics. Progress is rarely on their agenda while cementing or reinforcing the status quo is. Resisting anything that might interfere with the vested interests of their financial donors is the priority with fearmongering their foremost tactic of choice. Individually, LNP politicians can be found, after retirement, still tied to the strings of those same vested interests making it seem more than a coincidence but rather the sweetener promised, behind closed doors, for past works done. Gone are the days of cash bribes and payola while still in office. Stuart Robert the seeming exception.
“I agree that if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, but we need to face up to the fact that it is broken,” he said.
“Decades of governments on both sides have grappled as best as they knew how to try and deal with entrenched disadvantage in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and we still see the gap reported every year.”
Earlier, Liberal senator Andrew Bragg said the debate surrounding the voice should not be treated as a political issue.
He rejected claims by other senators the voice would add the element of race to the constitution.
“We have race-based laws at the national level,” he said.
“We have a country that has had race at its heart for 250 years.
“To argue that (the voice) is the introduction of race today is fundamentally untrue.”

His terrorism had been principled, rational, his Weltanschauung outlined in his manifesto. To suggest medical illness and disturbance was to give into the pathologizing agenda, something that would render him mad and therefore illegitimate as a thinker.

Far from being mad, the dystopia of Kaczynski’s industrial society has found solid roots. And the forces behind it, be they the myriad of social networks, data hungry platforms and the increasingly agitated discussion about Artificial Intelligence and its generative properties, implicates us all.

Kaczynski defied the authorities and the technological state he so despised, eluding capture for almost two decades. Being incapable of summoning the forces to destroy technology, he eschewed it, becoming a rustic version of the Savage in Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World, the man who “ate civilization”, and in so doing ate his own wickedness.

He lived in a cabin near Lincoln, Montana, a place in every sense off the grid: no electricity, no television, no telephone. He moved about with a bicycle. He took an interest in regeneration in nature. He even foraged. This was his way of romancing the notion of the “pre-industrial city”, as he termed it, where the “19th century frontiersman” could create “change himself, by his own choice.” Change for the “modern man”, in contrast, was “imposed”.

US Tells Another Bedtime Story To Scare Away Normal Relations With China and Cuba – scheerpost.com

On June 8, the US media added to its long storybook of tales to scare people away from normal relations with Cuba. The Wall Street Journal published an article on that day claiming that China has plans to set up a “spy base” in Cuba, to “eavesdrop” on the United States and “identify potential strike targets.” WSJ has already published two more pieces since rapidly ramping up its narrative against the Cuban state and fermenting more paranoia as the news spreads across mainstream news outlets in the United States.

It sounds simple doesn’t it? So why isn’t it?

We don’t know, and will probably never know, the full contents of the folders at Mar-a-Lago containing U.S. nuclear and other secrets. The Miami courtroom where Trump is to be tried later this year will shield them from the jury, reporters, and the public. That won’t be a problem for jurors; to determine Trump’s guilt or innocence of espionage, conspiracy, obstruction, and the other charges, they will only need to know: 1) that the files exist; 2) that they were stolen by Trump; and 3) that their existence at Mar-A-Lago was purposely hidden from government agents seeking to recover them.

Nobody Wants to Be Trump’s Lawyer…Again – Mother Jones

Here’s one for Grisham

Donald Trump is struggling to find a lawyer…again. According to reports from the Washington Post, the ex-president, who’s facing 37 charges related to allegations of mishandling classified documents, spent most of the day before his arraignment searching for an advocate to take his case. Several high-profile Florida attorneys have declined the task, after two lawyers—Jim Trusty and John Rowley, who played until recently had played critical roles in Trump’s defense—unexpectedly resigned last week. Trusty and Rowley are the two latest departures from a rotating cast of Trump attorneys who have, over the years, often been entangled in nearly as much controversy as their infamous client.

2024 US election: Trump could win again says pollster Frank Luntz

Donald Trump still has a good chance in 2024.

Trump didn’t do this alone he galvanized the profit-seeking media to obliterate truth in America. Behind the scenes Trump talks to the top end of town asking for $$ and in public he does the same asking for nickel and dime donations from working Americans claiming to be the victim of a Democrat-run bureaucracy and Judicial system. One he crafted and controlled federally while President. If money is so easily laundered in America foreign interference in the race for the top job will be simple. After all, did the Paradise Papers stop money laundering, or tax evasion in any way?

Chaos is not just Trump’s playground but his weapon against Democracy. As long as the media and he are mutual benefactors in rejecting the truth Trump has more than a chance to win. Murdoch’s media Fox News is still his prime promoter.

“The moment you stop seeking the truth and start rejecting it, actively, that’s the moment when you lose this wonderful system of government, and we are there right now.

” Luntz said Trump was weaponising the various court proceedings against him to fashion himself as being persecuted rather than prosecuted.

“He actually knows the language of victimisation better than any politician I’ve seen anywhere across the globe, and he uses it effectively and has caused people to rally around him.

Apparently, some on the Labor side of politics (we assume the late Senator Kimberley Kitchen, regularly given to this sort of treachery) had tipped her off about Labor’s knowledge of the allegation – one Reynolds had been aware of, at least to a degree, for nearly a year.

War on opinion a danger to free thought

In this argument, there seems to be a slide, a segue to Trump’s Charlottesville statement of Equivalence that there is no difference between right and left arguments only the skills in which they presented. That argument was put to bed long ago with a difference not in skills but right from wrong. That which frees us from those that restrict or try to prevent any progressive change.

Indeed, the war on opinion is being waged by socio-political extremists who identify as progressives and conservatives. Opinion has become a battle for control of the agenda.

Cuba has demonstrated that it desires nothing but peace in the region, and normal relations with its neighbor, the United States. But the United States refuses to accept this proposal. Instead, it maintains the most comprehensive sanctions in history against the small island. Instead, it falsely places Cuba on the state sponsors of terrorism list, even though it is in fact a sponsor of peace. Instead, the U.S. government and its media apparatuses choose to fabricate myths and legends, painting Cuba as the evil monster under the bed. Class War Is at the Heart of the Bank of Canada’s Incoherent Rate Hikes

What the Reserve Bank in Australia ignores is a failure to recognize the facts

“Their goal is to put a chill on borrowing and spending,” it wrote of the bank, noting that the strategy “will throw people out of jobs and make workers insecure enough to stop asking for raises — even if it plunges the country into a recession.” It argued that the bank was focused on blaming workers. As indeed the bank was. So were pundits, bank economists, and right-wing politicians. According to the yarn they spun, because higher labor costs drive up prices, it is workers’ share of the economic pie that is the problem. And, of course, on this view, government spending was making things worse.

Part of the battle for a better world, then, is to shape the mainstream reality in such a way that recognizes basic facts that are inconvenient for the capitalist class. Those facts include, for instance, the empirically verifiable point that corporate profits and central bank interest rate hikes are sending housing costs up, crushing people and, you guessed it, driving inflation.

“I was shocked by the degree of sensitivity of these documents and how many there were, … and I think the counts under the Espionage Act that he wilfully retained those documents are solid counts,” Barr, who served under Trump, told Fox News Sunday.

“If even half of it is true, then he’s toast.”
