Israel’s New Far-Right Government to Lift Ban on Parliamentary Candidates Inciting Racism

Israel's New Far-Right Government to Lift Ban on Parliamentary Candidates Inciting Racism

Jewish Shame

The agreement establishing the most right-wing government in Israel’s history contains a provision lifting a ban on parliamentary candidates who incite racism—an offense for which the incoming national security minister was once convicted, Israeli media reported Thursday.

The right-wing Likud party—led by Benjamin Netanyahu, who is set to serve a historic sixth term as Israeli prime minister—and far-right Otzma Yehudit (Jewish Power) agreed Wednesday to revoke Clause 7A of the Basic Law on the Knesset, Israel’s parliament.

New Extremist Israeli Government Further Marginalizes Palestinians and risks Alienating 70% World’s Jews

The new Israeli government has alienated some its most loyal supporters, namely the US Anti-Defamation League. Former ADL director Abraham Foxman said in The Jerusalem Post, “If Israel ceases to be an open democracy, I won’t be able to support it,” and “If Israel becomes a fundamentalist religious state, a theocratic nationalism state, it will cut Israel off from 70 percent of world Jewry.”

Who is paying the price for the violence of May 2021?

Shakespeare’s Portia never made it to Israel

Last June, an Israeli Jew, Ya’akov Cohen, was convicted of violently assaulting Said Musa, a Palestinian citizen of Israel, in the coastal city of Bat Yam during the unrest of May 2021. The prosecution sought a sentence of 4-7 years for Cohen, 31, who kicked Musa while he was lying helpless on the ground after having been dragged out of his car by several Jewish assailants, including Cohen. But the judge decided to sentence him to only 15 months in prison, justifying his ruling by arguing that Cohen “believed in the moment that the victim of the crime [Musa] was trying to carry out a car-ramming attack.”

At the end of November, an Arab man, Adham Bashir, was convicted of taking part in an attack on Mor Janashvili, a Jewish Israeli, in Akka during the same period in May 2021. The prosecution requested that Adham Bashir, who threw a stone at Janashvili’s car and broke its windshield in a group attack, be sentenced to 10-13 years; the three judges agreed to the request and sentenced him to 10 years in prison. The judge explained: “This was an ugly and dark attack that requires significant punishment.”

Benjamin Netanyahu’s proposed coalition government of Jewish  Netanyahuextremists, fanatic Zionists and religious bigots represents a seismic change in Israel, one that will exacerbate Israel’s pariah status, erode external support for Israel, fuel a third Palestinian uprising, or intifada, and create irreconcilable political divides within the Jewish state.

How this government will turn its Jewish critics into dissidents

The rapid development of a Fascist State turning the left into Dissidents,

Leftist Jews have very often been afforded the privilege of being opponents of the right, rather than its enemies.

But all that seems like it may change, and far quicker than even the biggest pessimists in my camp anticipated. In just the last month, since Itamar Ben Gvir was appointed as presumptive national security minister, Bezalel Smotrich given the power to lord over the day-to-day lives of millions of Palestinians in the occupied territories, and Avi Maoz granted the power to implement his homophobic agenda in school curriculums, the shifts have been palpable for Jewish critics of the state and its occupation. The government has not yet been formed, but it is clear to everybody which way the wind is blowing.

Biden Moves Ahead With Embassy on Stolen Palestinian Land

The Israeli and United States flags are projected on the walls of the ramparts of Jerusalem's Old City, to mark one year since the transfer of the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem on May 15, 2019.

Nearly five years after President Donald Trump broke with decades of U.S. policy and international consensus to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and move the U.S. Embassy there, the Biden administration is moving ahead with plans to build a permanent embassy compound in the city. Israel’s government has its headquarters in Jerusalem, but, because Palestinians also claim the city as their capital and because the city’s status remains disputed under international law, the U.S. Embassy, like those of most other countries, was previously based in Tel Aviv.

The plans for a new embassy, which the administration has quietly advanced in recent weeks, would consolidate Trump’s abrupt policy reversal and violate U.S. precedent both on the status of Jerusalem and on Israel’s ongoing illegal appropriation of Palestinian land. The new embassy would also make the U.S. government an active participant in that appropriation: The planned compound is to be built on land illegally expropriated from Palestinians, whose descendants, including several U.S. citizens, still have a claim to.

Heard the Phrase ‘Illegal Israeli Settlements?’ *All* such Squatter-Settlements are Illegal

What Israel does, but doesn’t announce, is its ACTIONS. We and they are what we DO and not just what we say we will!

All Israeli settlements violate Article 49, paragraph six, of the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949. They are, therefore, considered to be war crimes, according to Article 84, paragraph four of the additional first protocol of 1977; an annex to the 1949 Geneva Convention; and Article 8 of the 1998 Rome Statute.

In Sign of Turkey-Israel Thaw, a Joint Project is inked to build the World’s Largest Wave Power Plant on Black Sea

Where talk is cheap and announcements ear-catching these two countries need the positive distraction. what better way than to “announce”

Wave power is at the moment too expensive to be more than a demonstration project, at 60 cents per kilowatt hour to as much as a dollar. Its advantages, however, are that it is zero-carbon and continuous. Solar power does not work at night, and windmills don’t make power when the wind dies down. Waves constantly keep coming, in contrast. Places such as California have been filling in the gaps created by the intermittency of solar and wind by firing up fossil gas plants, which is both expensive and environmentally destructive.

Spike in Extrajudicial Executions by Israeli Police of Palestinian Youth

Distraction provides cover for Israeli crimes

The European Union has expressed its profound concern about the rash of extra-judicial killings by Israel of Palestinian young men, with ten having been killed recently. This year alone, some 207 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces. The new extremist government of Binyamin Netanyahu and his fascist partners in ‘Religious Zionism’ is suspected of having more Palestinians killed since October. Although a ‘shoot to kill policy’ has been on the books for many years, Some observers fear that the new far right government may be resorting to it more often.

One of its leaders is Rabbi Zvi Tau, who seems to have a conspiracy theory that LGBTQ groups have prevented Israelis from implementing Jewish law, the Halakha. “Tantura” Exposes the Lie at Heart of Israel’s Founding

The expulsion of Tantura women, children, and the elderly from Furaydis to Jordan on June 13, 1948.

A new documentary challenges Israel’s narrative about 1948 and the forced displacement of Palestinians.

The state of Israel so fears its own history that it passed a law, in 2011, penalizing anyone who commemorates the day of its establishment as one of mourning rather than celebration. Dubbed the “Nakba law” after the Arabic word for “catastrophe,” which Palestinians have always used in reference to the establishment of the Israeli state and their own displacement, the law captures the existential anxiety of a country that has never acknowledged its past even as it continues to struggle with its ramifications.

Israel’s narrative of its own birth is tightly orchestrated and controlled. Before the military opened its archives of the 1948 war, it issued a policy forbidding the release of any documents detailing the forced deportation of Palestinians; any human rights violations, including war crimes, committed by Israeli forces; or anything that might “harm the [Israeli Defense Forces]’s image” or expose it as “devoid of moral standards.”

Few in Israel are interested in finding out anyway. What happened in the days leading up to and following Israel’s establishment, at what cost their country came to exist, are questions that generations of Israelis have refused to ask. “For Israelis, the founding myth is that the Palestinians just ran away by themselves,” Alon Schwarz, an Israeli filmmaker, told me when we recently met. “Israel is lying to itself.”

Israeli Raids in the West Bank Push Palestinians to Brink Again

GAZA, PALESTINE - 2022/10/25: A Palestinian protester uses a slingshot to hurl stones during the protest against Israeli military raid in the West Bank, along the border fence with Israel, in east of Gaza City. The military says Israeli forces have raided a stronghold of an armed group in the West Bank, blowing up an explosives lab and engaging in a firefight. Palestinian health officials say five Palestinians were killed and 20 were wounded. The target of the raid was a group calling itself the Lions' Den, accused by Israel of having killed a soldier and attempting several attacks. Joel Beinin: Is It Over for Israel? [VIDEO] – scheerpost.com

Beinin dives into his unique look into Israel beginning with his first visit to the country as a young labor Zionist in sympathy with the Labor Party then securely in power. He lived and worked on a kibbutz but soon began questioning a fundamental assumption of the new state: “Israel has the law of return, which permits Jews to come back, to go to Israel, even if they have no historic connection to the place and to become citizens. And on the other hand, Palestinians who were expelled from the country when it was established, 750,000 of them or thereabouts, are not permitted to return. So, in that sense, there is no difference between the policies of the most far right Zionist and the far-left Zionist. They agree on Jewish supremacy,” Beinin said.

Violent Provocateur Ben-Gvir, Israeli Squatters, run Riot in al-Khalil/ Hebron, injuring Indigenous Palestinians and Israeli Troops

Armed squatters under the protection of the Israeli army attacked the local population and pelted their homes with stones and empty bottles in Tel Rumeida, wounding several Palestinians, who had to be ta taken to hospital for treatment, according to Wafa, the Palestinian news agency.

On Saturday, hundreds of Israeli squatters massed on Bab al-Zawiya and Beersheba streets in downtown al-Khalil, assaulting Palestinians and their commercial establishments, under the protection of the Occupation army.

The “Israeli settlement” is an Israeli government-backed scheme to steal Palestinian-owned land and implant Israeli squatters on it so as ultimately to annex the Palestinian West Bank and permanently destroy any chance of nationhood and citizenship rights for stateless Palestinians. Al-Khalil, which the Israelis call “Hebron,” is a major Palestinian commercial center responsible for 30% of the Palestinian economy. It has between 160,000 and 200,000 Palestinian inhabitants, along with hundreds of militant Israeli squatters. But it is circumscribed by checkpoints, barriers, even cages, in an attempt to control the indigenous Palestinian majority while their property and autonomy are robbed from them. Some 5 million Palestinians are stateless thralls of the Apartheid Israeli regime, which has them under martial law.

Are liberal American Jews becoming afraid to talk about Israel?

Hundreds of young Jews dance with Israeli flags as they march through the mixed town of Jaffa, in celebration of Jerusalem Day, May 29, 2022. (Tomer Neuberg/Flash90)

Jews support the “idea” of Israel do they support the reality or just stay shtum?

The State of Israel, I said, is currently a place where Jews as a people are not oppressed, and are actually the hegemon limiting the individual and national aspirations of a non-Jewish population. To claim that Palestinians are oppressed by Israel is not a provocative claim but a descriptive one, which raises a string of important questions.

These two very limited examples — the congregant who requested that I don’t talk about Israel, and the congregants who switched off as soon as I did — illustrate a shift in the American-Jewish attitude toward Israel, especially among liberal Jews. Don’t get me wrong, American Jews are still predominantly very pro-Israel; one need only witness the Israel Day Parade in Manhattan or other American cities to get a glimpse of that. But for many liberal Jews, the well-trodden expressions of support for Israel — “the most moral army in the world,” “the only democracy in the Middle East,” “no partner for peace” — are becoming less convincing as the reality on the ground makes them increasingly implausible.

Israel: On the Road to International Isolation with the Rise of domestic Fascist Parties

Nobody is surprised. You don’t hug haters of humanity who claim their defending themselves and their Nation

The rise of this Kahanist group will inevitably harm Israeli relations with the US, raising questions about the fate of the normalisation agreements and relations with Egypt and Jordan. The group’s public plans will pour more oil on the fire of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement (BDS), and the public support that Israel receives from many international forums, especially military aid, will decrease because the group continually seeks to exacerbate the situation with the Palestinians and incite against them.

Why is the Major Israel Lobby supporting over 100 Antisemitic Racists, Climate Deniers and election Denialists for Congress?

Israel is hardly Jewish

AIPAC and Jewish Republicans are a puzzlement. They are financially supporting over 100 racists, climate deniers and election deniers running for Congress, because they express unqualified support for Israel’s occupation, expansionist settlements and denial of Palestinian human rights. The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), one of the more powerful lobbies in the country, has targeted progressive Jewish candidates such as California’s Sara Jacobs for unseating. How can such smart people become so deeply invested in causes and candidates destructive to our interests as Jews and Americans? As Rep. Betty McCollum (D-MN) has pointed out, AIPAC itself is a sort of “hate group,” which uses charges of anti-Semitism as a campaign tool, while fueling anti-Semitism by its ugly tactics at the same time.

The Rise of Israeli Fascism as the Swing Vote in Parliament, and the Project of Ethnic Cleansing – scheerpost.com

The flag that insults Judaism

What if today’s politicians routinely spoke about the need to strip citizenship from and expel the Navajo from New Mexico and Arizona into Mexico and to annex the Navajo Reservation, the 27,000-square-mile area that stretches across four states in the Southwest? What if all 7 million American Indians were branded terrorists by some politicians in Washington?

Despite Israeli propaganda about being a democracy that shares values with the liberal West, the country has for some time gone down a much darker path. Exit polling done by the major Israeli television channels in Tuesday’s election suggests that Bezalel Smotrich’s Religious Zionist Party, in a joint slate with Otzma Yehudit (Jewish Power), will win between 13 and 15 seats in the 120-member Israeli parliament or Knesset.

Weed Apartheid in Israel and Palestine

In bars and cafes across Israel, the air is thick with cannabis smoke. For years, smoking weed has been socially permissible in Israel despite being technically illegal. Patio tables in cities like Tel Aviv are dotted with people openly rolling joints and lighting up without a second thought. Ironically, smoking pot is tolerated in more public places in Israel than in countries like Canada, where recreational cannabis is legal. In Israel’s trendy cafes and middle-class Jewish neighborhoods, police often turn a blind eye.

As is true of many of the freedoms enjoyed by Israeli citizens, however, the open consumption of cannabis stops at Israel’s separation wall, beyond which Palestinians are economically, militarily, and legally denied many of their most basic rights.

While there is a budding cannabis culture in the West Bank — tobacco stores there openly sell weed paraphernalia like rolling papers and grinders — Palestinians, who live under military rule, face serious legal jeopardy if they are caught firing up.

Israel’s Racism Controversy over the “Problematic” “Arab Womb.” Should Palestinian-Israelis be fined for Having Children?

Sahar’s attitude could be compared to the far right “Great Replacement” conspiracy theory among white nationalists in the United States, which holds (falsely) that wealthy Jewish businessmen are bringing in brown and black immigrants to work cheaply in the U.S. and to replace white workers. In Sahar’s version, Palestinian Bedouin are using their women to out breed Israel’s Jews. In both versions of the theory, there is a Semitic villain– wealthy Jews in the US and poor Bedouin in Israel.

The Great Replacement theory, which has been adopted by many US Republicans, has its origins in French Nazism.

The Germans took people’s gold teeth and hair and not just off the dead. What is the difference? If Israelis is doing much the same off the coast of Gaza leaving Palestinians with nothing ?

It is now clear that everyone is going to benefit from the natural gas off the coast of Gaza except those who probably need it the most: the Palestinians in the besieged territory. Egypt wins as a developer; the PA gets the revenues as the nominal owner; Israel takes a cut as a facilitator; and the EU gets the gas a consumer. Meanwhile, the residents of Gaza, who have been suffering from a severe lack of cooking gas, oil and electricity for fifteen years and more, will have to watch in silence as their natural resources are stolen from under their noses.

Will Israel face Democratic pushback over racist politician Itamar Ben-Gvir? | The Electronic Intifada

A man points with an Israeli flag behind him

Itamar Ben-Gvir, a member of Israel’s parliament, the Knesset, even before he pulled pulled a gun Thursday evening and tweeted for Israeli forces to “kick the crap out of the enemy” in Israeli-occupied Sheikh Jarrah.

While in Sheikh Jarrah, he also shouted, “If they throw stones, shoot them.”

Though some continue to claim that Ben-Gvir has moderated his positions over the years, he remains imbued with both fanaticism and narcissism. “Over the last year I’ve been on a mission to save Israel,” Ben-Gvir recently told journalists.

“Millions of citizens are waiting for a real right-wing government. The time has come to give them one.”

Polls indicate that Religious Zionism could potentially be the third largest party in the Knesset.

Democrats and Republicans alike can be expected to keep the military aid to Israel flowing no matter what transpires on 1 November. All outcomes point to the continuation of apartheid for Palestinians.

The left, with all its fragmentation and purism, is abetting its own isolation.

Amid this setting, Ben Gvir and his allies have stormed through the door opened by Netanyahu, and they are here to stay. Ben Gvir is now a symptom that has turned into a cause: as Palestinian citizens rise up to assert their rights, more Jewish-Israelis are turning to candidates who promise to further shrink the country’s democratic space and champion the fight against shared living. In some twisted way, Kahane — who predicted this choice would come — was right.

Israel’s Criminal Shame

The recent tragic death of a 7-year-old, Rayan Suliman, a Palestinian boy from the village of Tuqu near Bethlehem, in the occupied West Bank, stirred up so many memories. The little boy with olive skin, innocent face and bright eyes fell on the ground while being chased by Israeli soldiers, who accused him and his peers of throwing stones. He fell unconscious, blood poured out of his mouth and, despite efforts to revive him, he ceased to breathe.

Israel Authorizes Military to Kill Palestinians With Drones in the West Bank – scheerpost.com

Killer Robots the new dogs of war are on the drawing cards as well

Marjorie Cohn writes about the most recent Israeli military order in the West Bank, which Hamas calls “a dangerous step.”

Commanders of the Israeli Occupying Forces (IOF) have been authorized to use armed drones to kill Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, with the approval of Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Aviv Kohavi.

Hamas called the order “a dangerous step” and urged Palestinians “to continue resisting the Israeli occupation with all means possible until they regain their legitimate rights.”

The authorization to expand the use of killer drones coincides with “a significant rise in shooting attacks and massive gunfire during arrest raids, specifically in the northern West Bank cities of Jenin and Nablus,” according to The Jerusalem Post. On September 28, the IOF killed four Palestinians and injured dozens more during protests in Jenin.

Since as early as 2008, the Israeli Air Force has been killing Palestinians in Gaza with drones. They have also been used to fire gas bombs and live rounds in occupied Jerusalem. Although drones have been employed for surveillance, this is the first time armed drones will be utilized in the occupied West Bank. Drones comprise 80 percent of the total flight hours in the Israeli Air Force.

Catastrophe: Historians reveal Israel’s use of Poisoning, Typhoid against Palestinians in 1948

In the 80’s historic claims made against the Dutch were accepted as fact and Dutch history in WW2 was rewritten. But not historians attempts to correct the history of the formation of Israel.

“For unearthing that dark side of 1948,” Morris said that he was vilified by the “Zionist establishment.” He was accused of shattering the founding myths of the Israeli state and lending moral weight to the Palestinian cause. Morris rejected the claim as “untrue” and explained that he “was simply a historian seeking to describe what happened.”
