Brexit: Boris Johnson’s plot is bold, barely legal and politically high risk

As you go stomping up and down your country promising the Earth and more to those who gather to see you, you will probably somewhere along the line become convinced that the handshakes and smiles and the shouts of “Go Boris!” are genuine. They are. The problem is, the minority that turns out to see you are the same minority that would pay to go and see a freak show.

The issue might appear arcane. But Pompeo’s threat, which Donald Trump will reiterate during his state visit, beginning on Monday, sent a chill through the diplomatic, defence and security establishment. In an age of rapidly diminishing influence, Britain still prides itself on its intelligence gathering, counter-terrorism and counter-espionage capability, as well as agencies such as GCHQ and its new offshoot, the National Cyber Security Centre.
This capability is recognised and respected – and is a main reason why Washington maintains a close alliance. Britain brings something substantial to the top table – and that helps secure its place there. By publicly questioning this collaboration, Pompeo thrust a well-aimed dagger into the heart of the “special relationship”.

Today the United Kingdom needs to pull together, hold a second referendum this time based on the reality that leaving the EU would spell utter and total disaster by hemorrhaging jobs, destroying the fabric of employment for decades to come and destroying the future of the country’s youth. A societal castrophe would follow an economic collapse. These are the facts and these are the reasons why most Members of Parliament, including Theresa May, backed the Remain campaign in 2016. Why did they not stick to their guns?
The definition of going against common sense is what? Living in cloud cuckoo land.
British MPs have defeated Prime Minister Theresa May’s Brexit divorce deal by a crushing margin, triggering political upheaval that could lead to a disorderly exit from the European Union or even to a reversal of the 2016 decision to leave.

An intelligence service given free rein to commit ‘serious crimes’ in its own country is an intelligence service that is the enemy of its people.
The quite astounding revelation that Britain’s domestic intelligence service, MI5, has enjoyed this very freedom for decades has only just been made public at a special tribunal in London, set up to investigate the country’s intelligence services at the behest of a coalition of human rights groups, alleging a pattern of illegality up to and including collusion in murder.

Statistics released by the Home Office show that white suspects accounted for 38 percent of terrorist related arrests. Those of an Asian appearance accounted for 37 percent of offences, followed by black suspects way down on 9 percent.
The report states: “This was the first time, since the year ending June 2005, that the proportion of white people arrested has exceeded the proportion of Asian people arrested,” the report said.
The number of far-right extremists currently imprisoned in UK jails has risen sharply over the past year, from 10 to 28. Conversely, the number of Islamist extremists in prison has dipped, for the first time over the same period.
The Home Office said: “The number of Islamist extremist prisoners saw a slight decrease for the first time to 178 in custody.
“The proportion of prisoners holding far-right ideologies has increased steadily over the past three years, with the number up from 10 to 28 in the latest year.”
In 2016, the far-right group National Action, were proscribed as a terrorist organisation in the UK, the first of its kind – a wave of police raids on neo-Nazis quickly followed this landmark moment.
In June, Jack Renshaw, who was accused of being member of National Action admitted to plotting to murder British Labour MP Rosie Cooper with a machete, for “white jihad” and making threats to kill a police officer.

More than 2.6 million people have abandoned their support for Brexit and now back staying in the EU, a major study has concluded.
If the huge number of Britons who have changed their mind had voted to stay in the EU in 2016, the referendum would have delivered a clear Remain verdict.
The data will add to the debate about whether the country now needs a new referendum, with millions having second thoughts about their Leave vote amid growing fears about Britain crashing out of the EU without a deal.
In a key finding that will particularly intensify pressure on Jeremy Corbyn to take a tougher stance against Brexit, the study found the overwhelming majority of those changing minds are Labour voters in seats the party currently holds.

Islamophobic attacks on Muslim women who wear veils have risen since Boris Johnson compared them to “letterboxes”, a watchdog has found.
Tell Mama, which records hate crimes, said there was a “direct link” between the former foreign minister’s comments and an uptick in incidents targeting women who wear the niqab – which covers the face and hair apart from the eyes.
At least four women have been called “letterboxes” in public since Mr Johnson ignited a row over Islamophobia with an article published in the Daily Telegraph on 5 August.

The charge list against Mr Trump is long, unignorable and impossible to tolerate. Morally, it is headed by the racism of the immigration policies he was so proud of in Brussels on Thursday, the cruelty of their enforcement, especially in the separation of children from their parents, the racism to which he gives encouragement at home, and the taunting and visceral threat to the rights and dignities of women, people of colour, and LGBT people, who are all now directly threatened by his latest supreme court nomination. He has ignorantly spurned the threat from climate change, has sucked up to tyrants, has conducted an unprecedented campaign against the free press, launched a trade war, insulted America’s allies, praised America’s enemies and made dangerous mischief in the domestic and regional politics of countless parts of the world. Only this week, heading for Europe, he insulted Germany and said meeting Vladimir Putin would be easy work compared with his meetings in Brussels and Britain.

“Boris Johnson’s a friend of mine, he’s been very, very nice to me, very supportive and maybe I’ll speak to him when I get over there,” Trump said. “I like Boris Johnson, I’ve always liked him.”
Johnson previously said in a leaked audio recording that he wished Trump was overseeing the Brexit negotiations. His departure from Cabinet was followed by the resignation of junior, low-profile ministers late on Monday night and two MPs from party roles on Tuesday.

“Anti-Semitism is distinct from other forms of racism because instead of looking down on other races as inferior, it directs the venom upwards, towards an imaginary and evil elite. The “evil” — ever malleable historically as Bolshevism, “rootless” cosmopolitanism, capitalism, globalism, Zionism — has a new potency in this anxious, reactionary moment.”Julie Szego
I don’t know whether Julie Szego is Jewish or not but she certainly seems lost. To her if you do or don’t mention Jews your anti-Semitic. If you do or don’t mention Israel your anti-Semitic, If you are a Jew or aren’t a Jew your possibly anti-Semitic. Apparantly Netanyahu like Corbyn is anti-Semitic but neither know they are but in Corbyn’s case it’s inexcusable, in Netanyahu he’s just confused.
As my father married a Shitzka it make me fully half or just my shadow anti-Semitic? Jews don’t recognize me Nazis do and I ‘m deplored at what the State Israel is currently doing while being able to say some of my best friends are Jews without fear of lying. What does Julie Szego say? “I don’t fear for the Jews. I fear for the world.” She says utterly nothing from her” I’m lost and alone” apartheid position of them and me which according to her makes me part of the World and her lamentably not. (OD comment)
However, the question of attribution was not changed. The UK has been pushing for the Kremlin to be recognized as the perpetrator. Yet, its allies in Brussels appear to be refusing to cast judgment ahead of the evidence, unlike Downing Street.
“How did they come to the conclusion about a Russian ‘footprint’ if they didn’t give us those samples? Logically they shouldn’t have this substance. Which samples have they compared with to draw such a conclusion?” she went on. “Questions arise: then, they should have samples, which they conceal, or it is a lie from start to finish.”
“If the UK prime minister and other British experts give the formula, then it will be clear which countries have been developing these agents,” Zakharova said.

An overwhelming majority of people agree with Jeremy Corbyn that British involvement in foreign wars has put the public at greater risk of terrorism, according to a new poll. The exclusive ORB survey for The Independent found 75 per cent of people believe interventions in Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya have made atrocities on UK soil more likely.
