The laws against mishandling classified information have teeth for a reason. If laws governing the handling of classified information become a dead letter, the Republicans will have struck another grave blow against the rule of law.

The National Archives also retrieved boxes of documents that had not been turned over at Mar-a-Lago in January, according to the Post. Trump advisers denied any “nefarious intent” to the outlet, which noted that the boxes contained gifts and letters from world leaders, including a letter from former President Barack Obama and letters from North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un, which Trump once described as “love letters.”
A number of GOP figures on Sunday said they backed former Vice President Mike Pence in his rebuke of former President Trump’s claim that he had the authority to overturn the 2020 election results.

Trump’s gutlessness may have kept him from stealing the election, but it probably also helped him stay out of prison. And as long as he’s a free man, he will be able to try again — and this time, with an army of people who are ready to take the risks for him.

To save American democracy, the people tasked with getting to the bottom of a former president’s high crimes and misdemeanors — on Capitol Hill and in those key courthouses — must be ready for the violence that Trump is inciting, and must summon the courage to finish their job. My fear is that Trump’s speech in Conroe will live in infamy — but the only reason it happened at all is because we have not held Trump to account for attempting to wreck American democracy on Jan. 6 … not yet. Now, Trump has told us in no uncertain terms how he plans to break the nation this time. We can act forcefully to stop his new insurrection and punish his past crimes — or we can sit back and let the comet of autocracy strike.

And if it requires pardons, we will give them pardons. Because they are being treated so unfairly.”

Unfortunately We saw what happened to the Kurds in Syria, those left behind in Afghanistan, and weakening ties to the EU under Trump while he cozied up to Russia, Nth Korea, Hungary, and other dictators. Morrison and Abbott have dragged Australia’s reputaion in the eyes of the world to the worst it’s ever been.
The prospect of members of law enforcement agencies and the military breaking off into rogue commands seems like something out of a political thriller. And it’s probably not very likely. But then the election of Donald Trump was unlikely as was the insurrection of January 6th. I would have thought it unlikely that police officers would defend a vicious mob beating other cops with flagpoles or that active duty military would boldly participate in it. We all should recognize by now that anything can happen.
