Trump’s Chaos Agenda | The Smirking Chimp

Chaos is the same strategy being applied by the opposition LNP to this referendum, Chaos has been based on the avoidance of truth of any kind in order to fragment the minds of the nation. They have the money, the media, and have forgone any obligation to history, context, and truth. It’s the Trump/ Bannon strategy of “flooding the zone with shit”. Since Morrison left the nation in a shambles Albanese has been getting no media credit for doing the job he was appointed to do. To repair the damage done and make Australia a fairer place by returning this country and moving forward once again to the notion of the Common Good rather than protecting the interests of a limited few. Winning isn’t their only priority

Biden is not getting credit — that the public sees and reads mostly about dysfunction and crises, created largely by Republicans and fomented by Trump — is not just politically disadvantageous for Biden and the Democrats.

It is part of an increasingly effective strategy by Trump and his allies to foment public disgust with our democratic system of government. It is an essential component of Trump’s authoritarian agenda.

Dutton is sadistically politicizing trauma in exactly the way the LNP has always done. They did with Asylum seekers. Desperate people were left to suffer in Limbo for over a decade or more for the sake of LNP’s political need to win. “We don’t know” then meant not doing anything but “Stop Them”- It killed people then and is doing the same today. Asylum seekers were left incarcerated in tropical sweatholes that nobody was allowed to talk about.  Dutton repeated that with Robodebt singling out the desperate for punishment and now it’s indigenous Australians who will have to feel the pain of his jackboot yet again. For how many more years?

Hamas Says It Has Over 100 Captives From Attack On Israel | HuffPost Latest News

Palestinians inspect the rubble of a building after it was struck by an Israeli airstrike, in Gaza City, Sunday, Oct. 8, 2023. The militant Hamas rulers of the Gaza Strip carried out an unprecedented, multi-front attack on Israel at daybreak Saturday, firing thousands of rockets as dozens of Hamas fighters infiltrated the heavily fortified border in several locations by air, land, and sea, killing hundreds and taking captives. Palestinian health officials reported scores of deaths from Israeli airstrikes in Gaza.

The shadowy leader of Hamas’ military wing, Mohammed Deif, said the assault, named “Operation Al-Aqsa Storm,” was in response to the 16-year blockade of Gaza, the Israeli occupation and a series of recent incidents that have brought Israeli-Palestinian tensions to a fever pitch.

Over the past year, Israel’s far-right government has ramped up settlement construction in the occupied West Bank. Israeli settler violence has displaced hundreds of Palestinians there, and tensions have flared around the Al-Aqsa mosque, a flashpoint Jerusalem holy site.

The Israel-Hamas war: No matter who loses, Iran wins

There will be only one winner in the war that has broken out between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas.

And it is neither Israel nor Hamas. In an operation coined “the Al-Aqsa Storm,” Hamas, whose formal name is the Islamic Resistance Movement, fired thousands of rockets into Israel on Oct. 7, 2023. Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad fighters infiltrated Israel by land, sea and air. Hundreds of Israelis have been killed, more than 2,000 injured, and many taken hostage.

In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared war on Hamas and launched airstrikes in Gaza. In the first day of reprisals, close to 400 Palestinians were killed, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.

In the weeks ahead, the Israeli military will surely retaliate and kill hundreds more Palestinian militants and civilians. As an analyst of Middle East politics and security, I believe that thousands on both sides will suffer. But when the smoke settles, only one country’s interests will have been served: Iran’s.

What is “abhorrent” is that the Australian Government never applied that term to the constant and incessant provocations by the Israeli government. They closed their eyes to the Israeli Government’s sponsored, almost daily, attacks on Palestinians in Gaza the West Bank, and in Jerusalem itself. Nothing was said only silence when Israelis invaded Palestinian places of worship whether Muslim or Christian it didn’t seem to matter. It’s shamed the LNP but that was no surprise. But it now shames an ALP government and that’s a major disappointment to those that voted Labor.

198 Palestinians, at Least 40 Israelis Killed in and around Gaza Strip | – IMEMC News

A massive assault by Palestinian resistance fighters infiltrating Israeli military bases around the outer edges of the besieged Gaza Strip led to the killing of between 30 and 70 Israelis (different sources have reported different numbers), mainly soldiers. The subsequent bombing of the Gaza Strip by the Israeli airforce and military has led to 198 Palestinians being killed.

The Palestinian resistance movement’s attack comes in the midst of ongoing attacks on Palestinian civilians, their property and desecration of Muslim and Christian holy sites. During the first eight months of 2023, Israeli paramilitary settler attacks on indigenous Palestinians came at the rate of 3 per day, according to the United Nations.

Israel’s Strategic Weaponization of Water Against Palestine is a War Crime

By Anjuman Rahman AnjumanAleena ( Middle East Monitor ) – The universal human right to water, ensuring “sufficient safe, acceptable, physically accessible and affordable water for personal and domestic uses” is a principle upheld by international conventions. However, in the Occupied West Bank, this right is systematically violated through Israel’s targeted assaults on civilian water infrastructure. Just last week, Israeli occupation forces raided the peaceful village of Susiya, nestled south of Hebron in the Occupied West Bank, ruthlessly dismantling its main water network. Family in distress as Police Fixated Persons Unit hits the wrong target, again – Michael West

The aftermath of police mistakes The warrant to take the children should never have been issued. The Children’s Court orders should never had been made. Yet the DCJ think it’s reasonable that Angela should be out of pocket for the ordeal. This story is a true story, but for two things. 1) All the names have been changed for legal reasons and 2) the words in this article fall far short of properly describing the trauma caused by the events. A gross misfeasance has taken place; a gross misfeasance that could happen to anyone in NSW who doesn’t have half a million Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) followers, like Friendly Jordies does. The NSW Premier, Chris Minns, ought to intervene directing the Secretary of the DCJ, Michael Tidbal, to not only pay Angela’s Court cost, but also compensation – although the Premier must recognise that no amount of compensation will ever really heal the children’s trauma.

Gaza’s shock attack has terrified Israelis. It should also unveil the context

The scene where a rocket fired from Gaza hit and caused damaged in the Israeli city of Ashkelon, October 7, 2023. (Jamal Awad/Flash90)

Haggai Matar is an award-winning Israeli journalist and political activist, and is the executive director of +972 Magazine.

Contrary to what many Israelis are saying, and while the army was clearly caught completely off guard by this invasion, this is not a “unilateral” or “unprovoked” attack. The dread Israelis are feeling right now, myself included, is a sliver of what Palestinians have been feeling on a daily basis under the decades-long military regime in the West Bank, and under the siege and repeated assaults on Gaza. The responses we are hearing from many Israelis today — of people calling to “flatten Gaza,” that “these are savages, not people you can negotiate with,” “they are murdering whole families,” “there’s no room to talk with these people” — are exactly what I have heard occupied Palestinians say about Israelis countless times.

Yet I remember that everything that I am feeling now, which every Israeli must be sharing, has been the life experience of millions of Palestinians for far too long. The only solution, as it has always been, is to bring an end of apartheid, occupation, and siege, and promote a future based on justice and equality for all of us. It is not in spite of the horror that we have to change course — it is exactly because of it.

What is happening to ‘our’ ABC? | The Shot

The biggest public announcement of war with the ABC has been announced with Tony Abbott being appointed to the board of News Corp by Lachlan (Rupert) Murdoch. Abbott took the LNP to war with the ABC with his promise to Murdoch that he would eliminate it in a quid pro quo arrangement for his support. Every effort was made from the moment Abbott came to power. His No Cuts promise broken Abbott went directly for the heart of Australia’s Democracy. Our access to News and Information is the very reason why the ABC exists in the first place. A Statutory Independent Body was created to ensure governments were held to account. Abbott began neutering the ABC with budgets and banned his government Cabinet ministers from appearing on the ABC. He cozied up to Murdoch as we saw in their faux photoshoot in Atlanta even after having lost the leadership of his own party in order to show he was still relevant. Now he’s been appointed a general on the board of Australia’s worst Democratic enemy News Corp. For how long can News Corp and the Murdochs provoke us before we retaliate?

Why Australians would be concerned with the ramblings of an unknown conservative politician halfway around the world whose main obsessions are pot-holes and fighting the “woke disease” is anybody’s guess, but don’t discount the desperate research moles at the ABC, ably assisted by their research assistants at the right-wing IPA, who helpfully and regularly plant stories and suggest suitable guests to the ABC like dogs laying down beloved bones.

Because a few weeks after the obscure radio interview with Nick Fletcher-Who? where he raised the subject of a UK Minister For Men, Nick’s little issue had remarkably travelled across the world and become a major talking point on the ABC’s alleged premier panel show, QandA. Never mind that QandA has morphed into that 1990’s white trash Jerry Springer Show; the bigger question is why and how this became an issue for Australians at all?

The problem is, by shifting to that model, the ABC just wallows down in the gutter with the rest of them. Murdoch is already doing gutter journalism; his worldwide media outlets do ugly well. Why compete with them? If the ABC’s audience, and by that I mean their audience everywhere on all platforms, if they wanted to observe fabricated culture war bullshit, if they wanted to have relevant facts obscured from them, if they wanted an obvious lack of research or care, if they wanted the endless lies of the Vote No campaign re-framed as some sort of credible truth – if they wanted all of that, they’d simply consume Murdoch 24 hours a day.

Murdoch already does that better than anybody else on the planet – why not choose the higher ground where quality and facts exist instead?

Support for Lidia Thorpe in the wake of Nazi abuse

They encourage violence. Their ideology demands it. And their escalating fixation toward Indigenous women in a position of power cannot be taken out of context. It poses a danger in Australia through the current Referendum debate and the target it has painted on Indigenous women in politics and so, too, in Aotearoa where young Maori women running for Parliament are being made to fear for their lives by the far-Right.

Who is next to get dragged into their fold as a result of all this press they’re getting and how far might that new recruit dare to go? Will the next lonely dreg these neo-Nazis goad on to violence, whether it be toward Senator Thorpe or whoever they fixate on next, make good on all the talk? Will we begin to take this problem seriously only after an Indigenous woman in politics is hurt?

I am as surprised as Lidia Thorpe is that a sitting senator cannot expect prompt and effective protection from this rising threat. But what I do know is that for whatever it’s worth, Lidia will receive unending solidarity and support from activists and grassroots anti-fascists in Australia, in whatever way we can provide it. I hope that our communities won’t let her down where so many insufferable liberals, racists, cops and spooks can’t help but do time and again.

Following violent threats online, Senator Lidia Thorpe has now received vitriol on social media after standing up for herself.

Israel’s State Archives Reveal Long and Sordid History With Anti-semitic Extremists in Europe – scheerpost.com

Today, Israel is linked to Ukraine’s Azov Battalion, a neo-Nazi militia. The group was formed after the Russian occupation of Crimea in 2014 and was eventually absorbed into Ukraine’s armed forces. The group is accused of war crimes by the United Nations, and its paramilitary arm, the National Corps, is associated with attacks against local Roma and the LGBTQ community. Despite claims to the contrary, the Azov Battalion still uses the Wollfsangel symbol as part of its uniform, a logo widely used in Nazi Germany and which remains popular with neo-Nazis today. According to multiple reports, the Azov Battalion has used weapons manufactured by major Israeli arms firms like Rafael and Israel Weapon Industries.

In an attempt to whitewash the brigade’s image, an Azov Battalion officer, Illia Samoilenko, visited Israel on a publicity tour organized by local activist group Israel Friends of Ukraine in December. During his trip, Samoilenko met with Naama Lazimi, a Labor Party politician in Israel’s parliament.

Beyond Europe, Israel has supported authoritarian regimes in Africa, Asia, and Central and South America. These relations often involve arms deals, such as the sale of arms and provision of military training to Chile during dictator Augusto Pinochet’s rule from 1973 to 1991. Israel has also sold arms to military regimes in Bolivia and Guatemala in the 1970s and 80s. During this time, Guatemala committed genocide of around 200,000 majority indigenous people. Israeli arms were also used in the Rwandan Genocide and continue to be used in Myanmar’s ongoing genocide against the Rohingya people.
