‘Power of the people’ derails Melbourne’s neo-Nazis

For years Andrew Bolt carried on calling right-wing extremists “patriots” and anti-fascists who opposed them ANTIFA that dark underground disorganized group, terrorists. He even declared his admiration for the strength of conviction held by the Barcelona bombers, and ashamed young white Christian Australians for not fighting back as they did.

However, when the Christchurch killer came to life declaring he was fighting back, Bolt went to ground. That Australian mass murderer of 51 people declared that those that had inspired him were  Bolt’s very own patriots who were given the space and platform to preach their hate and call to action on his show.

As the saying goes “The apple never falls far from the tree” and Bolt’s own family origins were from the Dutch town of Aalsmeer..  What a coincidence Aalsmeer is noted today as the Netherlands’ most infamous pro-Nazi, Jew-hating town during WW2. A very small town whose democratically elected mayor was hung for war crimes. That town Bolt loved so much was indelibly stamped with the stench of its Nazi past. Bolt has never raised the history of that town he annually visited and still admires so much. The town to which he still has close family ties. Yet his idea of patriotism sounds very similar and echoes strong sentiments about who he clearly declares are “them” and his particular notion of “us”. His is not a celebration of the pluralistic Australia we live in, in any sense.

If not for the anti-fascists who gathered at Parliament House in Melbourne last week, a group of neo-Nazis would have succeeded with their anti-immigration racist rant, writes Tom Tanuki.

E Jean Carroll leaves Manhattan Federal Court with attorney after closing arguments of rape-defamation case against Donald Trump

Truth was assassinated at CNN and what was left of it turned into a theatrical joke. George Santos a competing liar was arrested and charged in a matter of months. Donald J Trump has been left uncharged for a matter of years and it took a woman to bring him down.

Truth didn’t stand a chance. Trump, 76, was like a child with crumbs around his mouth repeatedly telling a parent (Collins, 31) that he didn’t take the last cookie.

Scott Morrison and Australia’s Lobby Complex – » The Australian Independent Media Network

One could well be suspicious of the fact that promises were made to Morrison well before the election debacle. Promises of a safe and rewarding nest in which to land if the French were doublecrossed and lied to.

The ministerial code of conduct also requires former ministers to “not take personal advantage of information to which they have had access as a minister, where the information is not generally available to the public.” This is an unenforceable, and essentially dead letter. To Clancy Moore, the chief executive of Transparency International Australia, the code remains “effectively a toothless tiger”.

Tucker Carlson’s Long Con – Mother Jones

The worst of corporatised journalism was when Murdoch & Roger Ailes took radio’s shock-jocks and put them on cable TV and called it News

As I write, we don’t yet know all the details of what led Fox to toss cash-cow Carlson to the curb. But one thing is certain: It wasn’t for his perversion and poisoning of the national political discourse. That was his raison d’etre at Fox. He was no truth-teller. He was a pro-MAGA, for-mega-profit propagandist. Carlson’s personal journey is a tale of the Trump era. Like the GOP, he was already on the path to right-wing demagoguery before Trump oozed down that escalator. As those dark political winds grew stronger, he eagerly raised the sails and exploited the Trumpification of the Republican Party and the conservative movement. But by ending up a Fox cast-off whose phoniness has been thoroughly exposed, Carlson has finally provided something of a public service. He has both emblemized and revealed the fundamental truth of the network: We distort, and we divide. No journalist could have done that better.

With control of 65% of print media in Australia Murdoch’s hope was to turn Sky News into Fox News here. However since the 1990’s it’s been a major fail and disappointment. He simply couldn’t rid us no matter how much he tried of the ABC. Australia’s Democratic strength and revival depend on the restoration and revival of the ABC that Murdoch insisted the LNP destroy in doing so they destroyed not only themselves but weakened our 2- party Parliamentary Democracy and fragmented the nation.

But the Liberal Party is not for changing and hasn’t understood that opposition for the sake of opposition doesn’t work anymore. And with a change in demographics and voting patterns, they might be out of office for a long time. This change isn’t good news for the Labor Party either, and there are suggestions that this could be the last majority government – from either side of government – and the future will be based around coalitions of common political interests.

Lachlan Murdoch’s reputation in Australia is that of a “loser” who throws Xmas parties for other losers he employs. Onetel,& Ch 10, saw him lose millions and had him run to daddy in the US. Appointed CEO of Fox Corp he has cost billion plus but nevertheless bought a $100mill house to throw parties in LA no doubt. Now, this Goliath of a wannabe alpha-male has backed down from his threat to Crikey the David in a legal battle and will not only be liable for the majority of the costs but for further actions against the company. Lawyers love the schmuck does anyone else?

Matthew Collins KC, a barrister specialising in media law and a former Australian Bar Association president, said Murdoch was liable for most of the costs. “While every case is different, the costs that are recoverable by a party following a discontinuance of proceedings are typically in the range of two-thirds to three-quarters of the actual costs of the party,” he said.

Dowling’s got one thing wrong Murdoch’s share price hasn’t budged. It’s business as usual in the USA. The settlement is just a cost of doing business. However, a Murdoch Royal Commission would emphasise the facts of Murdoch’s corporate modus operandi in this country and insure that it operates differently here. The UK investigation cost Murdoch the News of the World. The China investigation had him run out of the Country. Surely that demands an investigation here?

Nothing undermines democracy more than when a large media organisation lies about an election being stolen which Murdoch’s Fox News has admitted doing in the US. On that basis the Australian government should being moving swiftly to set up the long called for Murdoch Royal Commission to make sure it never happens in Australia.

Clarence And Ginni Thomas Have Given Harlan Crow A Huge Tax Headache

How elite corruption operates “everyone does it ” so Trump shouldn’t be charged is his and the Republicans’ Defense cry.

But it’s not just Clarence Thomas on the wrong side of the law. According to tax law, those trips, flights and vacations could be gifts subject to gift tax. They were supposed to be reported by Harlan Crow to the IRS at the time they were given. IRS rules state that “The gift tax is a tax on the transfer of property by one individual to another while receiving nothing, or less than full value, in return. The tax applies whether or not the donor intends the transfer to be a gift.

Lying about Lying: Why we must revisit the Definition of ‘Fake News’ from Iraq to Palestine

The ALP wasn’t where the money was. They were buyers of papers, yes but they weren’t the catalysts of the profits Rupert Murdoch was looking for. They were merely the numbers, the rating, but not the honey pot. The major corporate players in the economy’s sectors, the generational wealthy investors who the  LNP represented were. They could be found in the Private Clubs and associations of Australia. Associations like the IPA, which his father was a founding member and the Melbourne Club. Fake News, PR and influence became Rupert  Murdoch’s core business after the LNP’s underhanded removal of the Whitlam government.

Murdoch simply focused on working for where the cash lay and flowed from. The continued influence for and on behalf of that cabal of owners, shareholders, and non-representative politicians. Meanwhile, news took a back seat. He peaked with the arrival of Fox News in the US in the 80s which focussed on power, and politics via fake news.

“fake news” predates both Clinton and Trump. When I first moved to the US over two decades ago, I recall my total shock at seeing the headlines of print tabloids, always positioned at the centre of major US grocery stores: from unsubstantiated celebrity scandals, to “breaking news” about aliens impregnating human females before returning to their home planet. Even as a newcomer to the country, it was obvious to me that such rubbish was also “fake news”. Sadly, these tabloids were often sold faster than legitimate newspapers, which suggests that the biggest challenge posed by “fake news” is our gullibility and willingness to engage with it. In the modern definition, “fake news” has grown to also include people with opposing opinions, whether these opinions are based on facts, selective facts or utter fiction. Many of us, as journalists, are caught in this impossible labyrinth. No matter what we do to demonstrate the authenticity of our sources, we continue to be haunted by “fake news” allegations. The generational struggle for independent media organisations and journalists has been the constant push to create as much space as possible between them and the whims of politics and p

Trump Is Indicted: Three Criticisms That Will Be Raised Against It, and Why They’re Wrong | The Smirking Chimp

Indeed, since the basic issue here is one of accountability, this case could actually open the the way for the other, more serious ones. Prosecutors in Georgia and Washington won’t have to bear the burden of justifying an action that had never been taken before. ‘Probably Not The Best Time To Give Up Your AR-15,’ Tucker Carlson Tells Viewers

After a guest on his show warned that Donald Trump’s indictment marked a “civil war era” in the United States, Fox News host Tucker Carlson remarked that Americans should hold on to their assault rifles.

Carlson’s guest, right-wing activist Ned Ryun, also warned that America was headed for a “one-party state and authoritarian government” and urged Republicans to take up a policy of “mutually assured destruction” against Democrats, whom he accused of “launching nukes at us.”

“Probably not the best time to give up your AR-15, and I think most people know that,” Carlson commented after Ryun’s spiel.

Carlson hyped up the possibility of impending armed conflict for his entire show. Noting the recent mass shooting in Nashville, Tennessee, and Donald Trump’s indictment, Carlson had earlier asked a guest, “It almost feels like they’re pushing the population to react. ‘We think they’re demoralized and passive, let’s see if they really are.’ At what point do we conclude they’re doing this in order to produce a reaction?”

Later, another guest, commentator Jason Whitlock, agreed with Carlson’s assessment, saying, “They are agitating for unrest, that’s the only way to interpret this.”

“I’m ready for whatever’s next, and I hope every other man out there watching this show — I hope you’re ready for whatever’s next,” Whitlock added later. “If that’s what they want, let’s get to it.”

“It feels like this is not the behavior of people who want the current system to continue,” Carlson responded. Whitlock concluded his appearance by referring to “elites,” saying “they are the devils, they’re the ones that don’t believe in God.”

“Jason Whitlock, I agree, thank you very much,” Carlson responded.

“If you believe in our system and you want it to continue, you have to raise your hand and say stop, because this is too great an assault on our system, much greater than anything we saw on January 6th, that’s for certain,” Carlson said.

‘The media normalises war-mongering’: how Chinese Australians respond to talk of war in mainstream media – Pearls and Irritations

Chinese Australians, Australia Day

Racism is White and not only do Chinese know and experience it. Asians, Africans, Indians, Middle Easterners, Jews and our Indigenous First Nation People all have felt it. It’s not just an inevitable part of a multicultural society. It’s rooted in our history and is systemic. It has has been built into our very white-biased institutions and social fabric over generations. It can only be changed by admitting it, teaching it and criticizing it. By introducing it into our very primary education systems.

Mind you it has had positive outcomes as well driving those who are seen as different into self-employed businesses and striving for better-than-average educational qualifications on the negative side into crime for survival..

“These days, it doesn’t take too much to provoke a racist. All it takes is seeing someone who looks Chinese.”

Capitalism is about the creation of debt and enslavement and is dependent on LOW-Interest rates. Reality reveals itself when interest rates are high. The ongoing wealth and income gaps increase and are easily seen. Any regulation merely attempts to keep that uglier of truths masked.

The current reality is massive losses for the providers while cost-of-living pressures escalate and the most vulnerable consumers suffer most. Welfare groups are demanding regulation, David Gilchrist reports.
