Fox News doesn’t have, or doesn’t enforce, standards the way a normal news outlet does. Its hosts frequently buck the network’s purported ban on participating in campaign events, its efforts to limit abject on-air bigotry only highlights the horrific commentary it is willing to let slide, and its much touted wall between “news” and “opinion” divisions is extremely permeable.
And so when CNN reported on Wednesday that Fox hosts and personalities had been ordered not to identify the whistleblower whose complaint is at the heart of an impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump’s abuse of power, the question was not whether that edict would be violated, but when.

Now at Fox of course it’s all about the money. Back in the 60’s DJ’s were paid to play records to insure higher ratings on Billboard whch translated to higher sales it was called “payola” That cash flow was eventually stopped. How is it Murdoch and Roger Ailes were allowed to apply the same formula with the NEWS. These days the money isn’t delivered in brown paper bags. It comes in the for of NDA contracts. (ODT)
Recently hired Fox News contributor John Solomon, a key player in President Donald Trump’s personal attorney Rudy Giuliani’s disinformation campaign against Joe Biden and his son Hunter, is now facing further ethical scrutiny.
According to a new report from ProPublica, Solomon was involved in an apparent pay-to-play operation at The Hill, involving him courting a conservative group for a six-figure advertising deal and also quoting its director in the Hill’s news content.

Fox News has shown that it will mete out virtually no consequences for its employees’ ethical lapses — whether for the Seth Rich conspiracy theories peddled by avowed pro-Trump opinion host Sean Hannity, or its supposedly “hard news” division effectively acting as the communications wing for the Trump administration and the Republican Party.

his recent criticism of the network shows that he doesn’t understand the con at the heart of the network’s model. Fox is a propaganda outlet whose success depends on maintaining just enough trappings of journalism to avoid that label. And if Trump turns his warning shots into a sustained assault, the result could spell disaster for the network.
Fox and Trump have enjoyed a mutually beneficial, symbiotic relationship. The network helped drive Trump’s political rise, all but fused with his administration after his election, and regularly cheerleads for him. Trump, in turn, is obsessed with the network, whose programming and personalities shape his worldview and frequently impact his decision. He regularly promotes Fox’s coverage and has given its hosts unprecedented access, lifting the network’s ratings.

Carlson’s rhetoric about non-white people has long been virtually identical to that of white supremacist terrorists in New Zealand and El Paso. Here, for example, is a passage from Carlson’s most recent book, on the topic of why “diversity” makes us weaker:
When confronted or pressed for details, [proponents of diversity] retreat into a familiar platitude, which they repeat like a zen koan: diversity is our strength. But is diversity our strength? The less we have in common, the stronger we are? Is that true of families? Is it true in neighborhoods or businesses? Of course not. Then why is it true of America? Nobody knows. Nobody’s even allowed to ask the question.
And here is an excerpt from the manifesto issued by the man who killed 51 people in a New Zealand mosque:
Why is diversity said to be our greatest strength? Does anyone even ask why? It is spoken like a mantra and repeated ad infinitum … But no one ever seems to give a reason why. What gives a nation strength? And how does diversity increase that strength? What part of diversity causes this increase in strength? No one can give an answer.

President Donald Trump on Friday launched yet another attack on Fox News, continuing to turn on the network that once appeared to be his favorite, this time over a poll that showed him lagging behind former Vice President Joe Biden.
The national survey, conducted by the outlet in conjunction with a bipartisan team of pollsters and discussed on “Fox & Friends,” indicated that Biden is leading the pack of Democratic 2020 hopefuls and, in a head-to-head matchup with the president, is ahead by 10 points.

The House Judiciary Committee will question Richard Nixon’s former White House counsel John Dean during today’s hearing on the Mueller report.
Dean was an instrumental figure in the impeachment of Richard Nixon, and the Democrats feel he can give the proper context to Donald Trump’s actions outlined in the Mueller report.
Donald Trump fumed in a Tweet:
So as usual, Fox News made sure to put on guests that would trash his rivals’ reputation thoroughly.
On America’s Newsroom, co-host Bill Hemmer introduced the Washington Examiner’s Hugo Gurdon to do the honors.
Hemmer said, “John Dean is a star witness Hugo, how about that?”
Gurdon said, “You know, we wrote in the “Washington Examiner” editorial this morning that this is one of the signs that the Democratic investigations into the House have descended from drama into farce.”
He continued, “If John Dean is your star witness and he’s the lead-off batter, it shows how bad things will get. He was described as a master manipulator in the Watergate scandal. He’s a felon and he’s been disbarred. His only role these days is to be a sort of house trained poodle for the Democrats.”
Trump’s childish mockery of his rivals is the norm now for all Republicans.

This is so damaging because it doesn’t just increase polarization by amplifying opinions on either side of an issue. It builds partisan barriers within the country where conservatives don’t even have a clue what critics of the president and Democrats are talking about. If Mueller’s report really did exonerate the president, it would be absurd for any Democrats — or, indeed, Amash — to be citing it as a basis for impeachment. In reality, this conclusion is entirely rational and arguably obligatory, even if Fox News doesn’t admit it.
This is a destructive path for a society to take, but it’s where right-wing media is taking us.

The hosts of the March 29 edition of Fox & Friends used the images of caged migrants in El Paso to fearmonger about another caravan, dubbed “the mother of all caravans.” While airing images of the caged El Paso migrants, co-host Brian Kilmeade warned that with both groups, “we don’t even know the criminals that, percentage-wise, are probably in that mix” and “trying to bust through” to the United States. Despite the fearmongering, co-host Steve Doocy eventually admitted that “we don’t know whether or not the ‘mother of all caravans’ is heading our way.”
The story of the people CBP has caged in El Paso is the latest expression of a well-defined trend: Fox News dominates discussion of important political issues by its sheer volume of coverage, allowing conservatives to set a misleading framing that ultimately misinforms discussions happening elsewhere.

After new polling was released showing the overwhelming popularity of raising taxes on millionaires and billionaires, Fox News and Fox Business figures blasted voters as “brainwashed” and ignorant and even claimed that some taxes on the wealthy are “anti-human.”
A Fox News poll released at the end of January showed that a vast majority of registered voters — 70 percent in total — support raising income taxes on families making more than $10 million per year, and 65 percent support raising income taxes on those making more than $1 million per year. A Morning Consult/Politico poll released on Monday showed 61 percent of registered voters favor a wealth tax on households worth more than $50 million. Two other recent polls also found majority support for increasing taxes on the rich. But Fox hosts and guests decried these proposals as “one big giant con” amounting to a “war on the wealthy.”

During the show, Coulter argued that U.S. soldiers “can shoot invaders,” adding that if they couldn’t shoot them in the United States they could “go one yard into Mexico.” When host Jeanine Pirro pushed back, stating, “Ann, we can’t invade Mexico. … We certainly can’t cross the border to shoot them up over there,” Coulter responded, “Reagan invaded Grenada, and Grenada was far less of a threat to Americans.” She also stated that even if judges would try to prevent Trump from allowing soldiers to shoot at migrants or invade Mexico, “that’s not a reason not to try it.”
To summarize: Coulter called for shooting migrants or invading Mexico, and Fox News thought the best description for those comments was “Coulter urges Trump to follow through on tough border talk.”
Ann Coulter went on Fox News and called for migrants to be shot. Here’s the headline Fox went with.

Ayman Mohyeldin: “While Fox News spent more than 33 hours discussing the caravan through Election Day, the network didn’t focus on it at all the day after the midterms, and it has spend less than five minutes on the subject the day after that”
The consensus on election night seemed clear: although Democrats regained the House of Representatives for the first time in eight years, no blue wave had materialised.
A week later, the steady trickle of further gains in late results appear to reveal a far more positive picture for the party,
The Democrats have now picked up at least 32 seats in the House and are on course for four more, in addition to flipping seven governorships and eight state legislative chambers.
It means the overall results in the first nationwide election of Donald Trump’s presidency represent the Democrats’ best midterm performance since 1974, a vote which came in the wake of Watergate and Richard Nixon’s resignation.
