Voice Referendum doomed by Coalition’s digital manipulation

No doubt some of you will think we made a mistake in that first sentence. The Uluru page was created in 2017, during the Coalition Government’s tenure. The now resigned Coalition Minister, Ken Wyatt, as Indigenous Affairs Minister, submitted a final report in July 2021 to the Morrison Government, which designed and funded the Voice with $7.3 million.

The Morrison Government, under former Treasurer Josh Frydenberg‘s direction, subsequently included $160 million in the 2019 Budget for the Voice Referendum, assuring Australia a referendum within three years.

Frydenberg openly supported the Voice and expressed confidence that it would succeed:

pseudo-arguments put forward in this remarkable piece of political propaganda are the best that those opposed to the Voice can muster at this point, the campaign is dead. Simple application of basic logic and critical thinking exposes the ‘case’ against the Voice as quite ineffectual. It is standard Conservative fare: fear the unknown (despite there being ample detail about the Voice). I do find it interesting that they tipped their hand so blatantly with the ‘this is permanent’ argument. They are clearly desperate, and that argument was not thought through. Their petulance thus exposed, let us hope the electorate sees through this nonsense and votes for True National Unity with a Voice.

Liberal Party trashing its own reputation

Labor left out of it In case the mud being flung on itself by the Liberal Party is ascribed to “Canberra culture” generally, “politicians” or the power game, the Opposition has taken up an option to sit out the whole furor. It isn’t them and they don’t want misdemeanours raised up from the Party tradition, of which there would be several over time. Some Liberals and others have tried airing a few cases saying it’s “them too” but no mud has been sticky enough to stick.

Companies linked to tax havens and one of China’s wealthiest property developers have been handed federal government grants to employ remote Aboriginal work-for-the-dole participants under the 1,000 jobs program – a scheme that was supposed to primarily benefit Indigenous business. The $50m, 1,000 jobs program, which aims to generate employment for Aboriginal jobseekers and businesses in remote Australia, has created just 400 jobs in the two years it has been running. The program offers a wage subsidy to support businesses to take on Community Development Program (CDP) participants as new, ongoing employees for a minimum of 15 hours per week, making payments once an employer provides evidence of employment outcomes. NBN battle between the ACCC and the Government

In my opinion, what this means is that the Government would like the ACCC to facilitate NBN Co to increase their prices. I will come back to this in a bit more detail. But in essence, the Government would like to create a better financial position for the NBN to put it up for sale. The alternative I have advocated now for many years is to write down some of the NBN costs.

Federal Liberal MP swipes Andrews government over pandemic response

Liberal MP Tim Wilson says the Andrews government has not been scrutinised enough.

Tim Wilson LNP/IPA federal MP couldn’t give a running fuck about COVID-19 neither the cases nor the deaths concern him rather than how it all seems in the eyes of the public. Now that it’s obvious that the Immigration and the Aged-Care sectors both a responsibility of the Federal LNP were the epicenter of the spread and deaths of the virus due to their total mismanagement from Abbott to Morrison. Wilson’s complaint is that the process was and is political and somehow has gone easy on Dan Andrews. Wilson’s problem however the opposite would seem to be the case if one simply looked at the MSM media. (ODT)

Victorian Liberal MP Tim Wilson has waded into the fight over Daniel Andrews’ handling of the coronavirus pandemic, saying the state government has not been scrutinised enough over its response to COVID-19.

Mr Wilson said the federal coronavirus committee had met many more times than its Victorian equivalent and was chaired by an opposition politician whereas the Victorian inquiry is headed by a member of the governing party.

Australia Has Spent More Than $1 Million On Sick Refugee Medical Transfer Battles

Australia racked up more than $1 million in legal costs in the past seven months over the medical transfers of refugees and asylum seekers from Nauru and Manus Island, a senior home affairs official has said.

The official also confirmed that in 34 cases, sick refugees and asylum seekers were only transferred to Australia following a Federal Court order, and in 17 other cases detainees were only transferred once a court case had commenced.

Let’s not sugar coat this, the outcome in the Wentworth byelection is a disaster for the Liberals. Counting isn’t over yet, but the anti-government swing in this contest will be north of 20%, which is the biggest swing ever recorded against a government at a byelection.

It is a repudiation. A repudiation of a chaotic period in government characterised by self-obsession and self-harm. A repudiation of the party’s lurch to the right, and the hollowing out of the sensible centre.
