The move comes after Nottinghamshire Police reportedly launched 20 investigations in the first two months of its pioneering scheme to tackle misogyny. The Fawcett Society, which campaigns for women’s rights, praised the development but called for the policy to be entereed in to the law.

A cross-party group of MPs, including former SNP leader Alex Salmond, may renew their attempts to impeach Tony Blair following the publication of the Chilcot report later this year. According to reports, Mr Salmond has begun rallying support for an attempted prosecution, pending the findings of the report, which will be released in July. In the UK, impeachment is the procedure whereby MPs can vote to have someone put on trial before the House of Lords. It is a centuries-old procedure which has not actually been used since 1806.

Sadiq Khan has said the Conservative campaign to beat him in the London mayoral race was “straight out of the Donald Trump playbook”. The new mayor of London secured an overwhelming victory over Tory Zac Goldsmith following a bitter campaign which saw his rival attempt to link him to Islamic extremists. Mr Khan said David Cameron and Mr Goldsmith had sought to “divide London’s communities in an attempt to win votes”.
Zac Goldsmith’s own sister has critcised his London mayoral campaign saying it did not reflect the type of person she knows him to be. Jemima Goldsmith tweeted that her brother was an “eco-friendly, independent-minded politician with integrity” and his campaign, which has been widely criticised for using “dog-whistle racism”, did not reflect this.
Simmering tension within the British Labour Party over claims of antisemitism has boiled over. First MP Naz Shah was suspended; now theparty’s former London mayor, Ken Livingstone has joined her. It’s an ideal moment to consider what antisemitism actually is. Many probably – perhaps secretly – gave up puzzling over antisemitism long ago. They’ve moved on to some other issue, like battery hens, where the oppressors are shamefaced and the victims can’t speak.
