Former White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham said on Thursday that Donald Trump watched the Capitol riot unfold “gleefully” on January 6, proudly rewinding footage of the insurrection on his television. “All I know about that day was that he was in the dining room, gleefully watching on his TV as he often did, ‘look at all of the people fighting for me,’ hitting rewind, watching it again — that’s what I know,” Grisham told CNN’s “New Day.” Her remarks, made on the anniversary of the riot, align with past reports about Trump apparently glued to the TV screen as the riot played out. Last year, Washington Post reporter Carol Leonnig said in a CNN interview that the president was in the dining room of the Oval Office” during the insurrection, “watching it and almost giddy.”

“Yeah, I absolutely do. I think we’re going to start to see a lot of movement now. There’s a lot of momentum going on both at the DA’s office, as well as the attorney general,” he said. “This case is not over simply because Cy Vance is now out of office. To the contrary, I believe things are going to start ramping up. I think they’ll start moving quickly. I do believe that in 2022, especially the early part, we’re going to see some indictments and some very exciting ones for those of us that want to see justice.”

Asked what questions he felt the January 6 committee should investigate, Officer Fanone urged the committee to investigate whether there was any coordination between members of the Congress, their staff and the insurgents. Officer Dunn used a powerful analogy to describe what he wants—that of a hitman. If a hitman kills someone, he goes to prison, Dunn said. So too must the person who hired the hitman. “It was an attack carried out on January 6, and a hitman sent them,” Dunn said. “I want you to get to the bottom of that.” You couldn’t ask for a clearer mandate.
Trump’s critics in both parties are ignoring the distractions, saying the Jan. 6 attack was a threat to the nation’s underlying democratic traditions — and one that deserves a thorough examination. “It’s going to be … a really important opportunity to remind everybody about the necessity of accountability for what happened, [and] for making sure that it never happens again,” Cheney said.

US federal agents have searched the Manhattan home and office of Rudy Giuliani, former President Donald Trump’s attorney, a law enforcement official says. The raid marks an escalation of the investigation into the Ukrainian business dealings of Mr Giuliani. Mr Giuliani’s lawyer, Bob Costello, confirmed search warrants had been executed, and that authorities had seized mobile phones. Mr Giuliani, 76, did not immediately respond to a request for comment as members of the media assembled outside his apartment. The warrants included an allegation that Mr Giuliani failed to register as a foreign agent, a violation of lobbying laws.

“He’s in a very precarious financial situation,” Painter said. “And we don’t know who the creditors really are. Because if Deutsche Bank makes a loan, you have no idea whether Deutsche Bank has the risk attached to that loan, or whether somebody else has made a commitment to Deutsche Bank to take on a piece of that, or all of it.” That poses national security and other risks to the United States and also highlights the legal and financial uncertainty Trump and his web of businesses may face if he loses in November. “When he’s not president anymore, we don’t know what’s going to happen,” Painter said. “And neither does he, so he wants to stay in order to continue to prop those businesses up. The minute he’s out, I think the loans could get called. And there could be a lot of investigations.”

To some people the answer is self-evident: China. Maybe those calling for a “China only” investigation should be looking closer to home?
The world is entitled to know the origins of COVID-19 and exactly how the outbreak began and how it was handled by every major nation, including China, given the pandemic alarm was raised back in September 2019. The World At Risk report by WHO and the World Bank Group contained dire warnings of a possible pandemic. These were largely ignored by most G20 countries including Australia. Is it any wonder most countries were dangerously ill-prepared, resulting in needless deaths? Marcus Reubenstein reports.
Thanks to a virus, transported in droplets just 0.005 millimetres in diameter, life as we know it has changed enormously.
The mortality rate of COVID-19 should see that is does not even come close to the deadliest pandemic in global history. However, as the world is so much more interconnected than at any previous time in history, the global disruption and economic fallout is without precedent.
With the world having sustained so much damage, the inevitable question is: Who is to blame?
