When Scott Morrison became prime minister in 2018, the Coalition poured an extra $4.6 billion over a decade into Catholic and independent schools. Productivity Commission figures released this week show government funding for non-government schools continues to grow at a faster rate than for public schools. The RMIT ABC Fact Check unit, funded jointly between the RMIT University and the ABC, describes itself as an “agenda-free zone” that does not allow staff of the unit to be members of political parties or activist groups.

Was the ABC’s funding cut?

Communications Minister Paul Fletcher (pictured) and Prime Minister Scott Morrison have disputed the ABC is facing cuts to its budget.

This truly isn’t even a debate to allw it to become one is to blow smoke into the eyes of the Australian public. Tony Abbott lied in 2013  and the LNP has been doing it ever since with the aid of News Corp and now Ch9 suggesting there’s even a question! (ODT)

LNP have been slashing the ABC funding for the past 6 years never promised at an election and always called something other than what it is. Death of the ABC  will be the death of Democracy in Australia and the growth of Murdoch media whose profits are heavily entrenched supporting those that will have the money to pay at elections. $90 million vs $18 million tells the tale of modern politics and the media. The ABC has lost $393m over five years under the Coalition government.

Handed to the government in December, the secret $1m report has languished in Mitch Fifield’s office for months and may never be released if Labor wins the election.

Richest private schools get payments from $7m government ‘slush fund’

Many of the country’s wealthiest private schools are receiving bonus payments from a secretive fund the Turnbull government claims is necessary to help schools transition to its Gonski 2.0 funding model.

On Sydney’s north shore alone, Loreto Kirribilli, St Aloysius’ College and St Ignatius’ Riverview are among the 102 independent schools – most of them in NSW – receiving top-up payments from the $7.1 million pool in 2018.
