Missed opportunity

The mandate of the independent commission of inquiry has always been under attack by Israel and its powerful allies, and its conservative approach may be a response to such pressure. The commission’s findings will likely prove useful in ongoing accountability efforts, but they represent an opportunity missed.

Israel Is Kurd-Washing Its Crimes in Gaza

Faced with criticism of the war in Gaza, Israeli leaders cynically ask why the world worries about the Palestinians and not the Kurds. Israel’s supposed pro-Kurdish stance is empty posturing — and risks damaging the Kurdish fight for liberation.

“I Heard a Machine Gun Being Loaded”: A Harrowing Escape From Gaza

Escaping Gaza has left me with mixed feelings. On the one hand, I had managed to survive a genocide that had starved and almost killed me and my family. But I was also saying goodbye to a place I had loved for my entire life. The moment we crossed into Egypt, we were destined for a life as exiles—refugees with no clear destination, searching for a place to feel at home again. Leaving behind everything we had built—every dream and ambition—was dreadful. We were forced to start a new life from scratch.

I left Gaza because I want to keep talking about it. I want to keep my home—Palestine—in my life and work. To do that, I have to stay alive, and that got harder every day in Gaza. As Palestinian journalists, we are deprived of any protection that international law or press credentials should provide. I have lost many colleagues and loved ones simply because they took on the responsibility of highlighting the struggles of their fellow Palestinians.

The Left Has Played a Key Role in the Palestinian Struggle

The rivalry between Fatah and Hamas has dominated Palestinian politics since the 1990s. Yet for many years, the main challenge to Fatah came from the groups of the Palestinian left, which have made a huge contribution to the national movement.

In Gaza, more Palestinians will be killed by starvation and disease than those killed by bombs

We are told that the high intensity phase of Israel’s war in Gaza is coming to an end. As world leaders contemplate new wars and a compliant media gets busy with freshly minted threats, there are fewer stories on Gaza. Let us not be lulled into believing that, for those besieged in Gaza, the worst

The world has abandoned us. What can we do?

Any talk of improving our conditions of oppression – and even this is seen as too much for us – in light of the great sacrifices that have been made, is a betrayal of Gaza’s martyrs. We need to start discussing radical solutions to move beyond the status quo, and adopt a clear slogan: End the occupation, end apartheid, and end settler-colonialism. If this happens, all the lives lost in Gaza would not have been lost in vain.

Palestinians must start discussing radical solutions to end Israeli occupation, apartheid …

Israeli Prisons are a pocket of Hell in nobody wants to show even Israel

Antigovernment protest organizers in Tel Aviv estimated 130,000 converged downtown on Saturday night demanding an immediate ceasefire deal to bring the captives home from Gaza.

“Once again, Hamas is ready to deal positively with any proposal that secures a permanent ceasefire, a comprehensive withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, and a serious swap deal,” Hamdan told a news conference in Beirut.

The ‘Israel Lobby’ Works for the US Military Industrial Complex – CounterPunch.org

The Israel Lobby’ in 2007, superior public relations has served as the main explanation for the outsized influence that the nation of Israel holds over American politicians. In that telling, AIPAC (American-Israel Public Affairs Committee) and other supporters of Israel built a sophisticated and far-reaching public relations machine that promotes US politicians who support Israel and punishes those who don’t.

Conceived this way, rich supporters of Israel finance public relations campaigns whereby American politicians are (legally) bribed and coerced into giving US foreign aid to Israel. This aid is then delivered to the nation of Israel, with a preponderance of the money being spent on weapons produced by American weapons producers. To the extent that the goal of ‘the Israel lobby’ is to maximize US foreign aid to Israel, it is also maximizing funding for the American MIC (military-industrial complex).

The Guardian view on Netanyahu’s leadership: making enemies and clinging to far-right friends | Editorial | The Guardian

The Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, in Givatayim, Israel, on 18 June 2024.

Mr Netanyahu’s departure would not be a magic solution: another prime minister’s policies on Hezbollah and Gaza’s future would probably not look so different. The Biden administration remains reluctant to use its potential leverage – arms supplies, diplomatic positioning and sanctions even against Mr Smotrich – as it should to stop the war in Gaza and the tightening hold on the West Bank. But an administration governed by a sober consideration of Israel’s needs and priorities, rather than driven by personal political survival, might at least find its way to a hostage-and-ceasefire deal and free itself from the dangerous grip of the far right.

It is a film that painfully displays the brutality of the Israeli Zionist project. You don’t believe this is the case? Well, watch the film and tell me how you justify your position.

What is the story you believe that leads you to think that Palestinians do not deserve the same rights as Israelis, or indeed as other human beings for that matter?

Do you think Israelis are the victims, that their security is so perilous that for security reasons they can lock up more than 9,000 West Bank Palestinians since October 7? They have no formal charges laid against them and no right to legal representation. It is not Israelis who lie in bed thinking Palestinians are coming after them with guns. It is Palestinians who lie in bed knowing Israelis are coming after them with guns.

Why Netanyahu Has No ‘Next Day’ Plan for Gaza

Blaming Netanyahu for failing to produce a “next day” vision for Gaza, however, is also wishful thinking as it assumes that Israel has all the cards. It has none.

Of course, there is an alternative to the neverending war scenario, namely permanently lifting the siege on Gaza, ending the military occupation, and dismantling the apartheid regime. This would grant Palestinians their freedom and rights as enshrined, in fact, guaranteed in international and humanitarian laws.

If the international community mustered the courage to force such a “next day” reality on Tel Aviv, there would be no need for war, or resistance, in the first place.

Red Crescent: Israel Never Reached Out About Hind Rajab Investigation

gettyimages-1992871300-e1719333321172

It’s these types of conspiracies that Julian Assange would have revealed and been jailed for. 8 Reporters killed by an American helicopter gunship. This is what the American government regards as secret

The Israeli military never contacted the Palestine Red Crescent Society about Israel’s killing of a 6-year-old Palestinian girl, her family members, and the paramedics sent to save her, a Red Crescent spokesperson told The Intercept, refuting the State Department’s first substantive remarks about the killing that took place 148 days ago.

In the nearly five months since the killings, The Intercept repeatedly asked the State Department about the incident, the status of investigations, and how the U.S. could continue sending Israel aid if it could not get straightforward answers on the case. (U.S. policy requires foreign governments to provide assurances they won’t violate international law with U.S. weapons; the U.S. found that Israel likely violated law with American weapons, but did not act on the conclusion.) On almost every occasion, Miller said the U.S. was asking Israel to investigate.

On February 14, for example, after The Intercept asked about the range of material available for an investigation to proceed, Miller said the question is “appropriately addressed to the government of Israel,” but that the U.S. wanted the incident to be investigated. Several times after, Miller either did not have an update on the “ongoing” investigation, or said the department would “come back” after getting an answer.

After nearly 150 days, the State Department finally came back with answers: ones that relied wholly on Israeli claims — assertions the U.S. admitted it did not attempt to verify, that deflated upon the slightest provocation.

The Treachery of the Nazi-Zionist Alliance

“All excuses that it saved lives must be strictly excluded from serious consideration…it saved wealth, not lives… or, more properly, a piece of the property of the German Jewish bourgeoisie”

In the end, collaboration with the Nazis by a small group of Zionists broke the global boycott against Germany, weakened anti-fascist resistance worldwide, and contributed to the genocide of Europe’s Jews.

Indeed, the Zionists-Nazi Alliance became part of the ideological foundation of Israel’s apartheid and genocidal policies today.

Even by 1943 when the Holocaust was well underway, Zionists continued to block Jews who tried to settle outside of Palestine.
