Few Israelis will object right now to equipping settlers with rifles, as hostility toward Palestinians in general has intensified. But a permissive attitude toward guns will only lead to an increase in violence and, just as importantly, will crystallize the anger felt by both sides, making any hope of justice and reconciliation even more remote.
