UN Agency Warns Humanitarian Operations in Gaza on Verge of Total Collapse

Israeli airstrikes continue on the 16th day in Gaza

A Forensic Report offered by Israel won’t be offered by Gaza to America’s “The Media Line” Agency at this point in time as there has been a shortage of personnel, equipment, and the piecing together of bodies in Gaza at the moment.

“Without fuel, there will be no water, no functioning hospitals and bakeries,” said the UNRWA. “Without fuel, aid will not reach those in desperate need. Without fuel, there will be no humanitarian assistance.”

Gaza genocide exposes fundamental bias in the state-corporate news media – Pearls and Irritations

Flags of Israel and Palestine painted on cracked wall.

‘First, the militant attack on Israeli civilians was unconscionable, inhumane and in violation of international law. Second, Israel’s collective punishment against Palestinian civilians and its actions in Gaza are unconscionable, inhumane and a violation of international law. And, third, one must address the context of occupation and apartheid in which this is unfolding if one is to maintain integrity and be able to plot a strategy going forward in which both Palestinians and Israelis can live in freedom and security.’

Peter Dutton gestures with both hands in the House of Representatives

History will not look kindly on Peter Dutton, who this week danced on the grave of the Uluru Statement from the Heart

Dutton’s gloating has been breathtaking in its callousness, his weaponisation distressing in its cruelty. With Indigenous leaders in silent mourning, the Coalition has spent the week trying to force Labor to walk away from truth-telling and treaty as well.

Is Dutton the only one who cannot see the damage he is inflicting, on both himself and the already hurting nation?

Postscript on the 2023 Referendum: Let Political Risk-Taking and Responsible Activism Distract from the Profound Negativity of Voice Result – » The Australian Independent Media Network

Readers can continue their activism with a new focus after the disturbing results of the Voice referendum. History may soon exonerate Anthony Albanese for his commitment to failed constitutional change. Perhaps this result can be a springboard for pragmatic action to address the wider economic, social and cultural divides in Australia. There will be little grassroots resistance to these commitments which is what the electorate expects from a Labor government.

Indigenous Australians Mourn Failure of Referendum to Recognize Groups in Constitution

Yes supporters react

How easily we forget that the LNP wanted to get rid us the UNAHRC. We signed the document and then pretended we didn’t. Abbott even promised to amend the Racial Discrimination Act when Andrew Bolt was found guilty. By “amend he meant to get rid of its teeth”. When Asylum Seekers asked for Human Rights the LNP said No “You’re not asylum seekers you’re “illegals”. Indigenous Australians asked after 5 years of hard work to ask and the LNP simply said No without listening to why? As a Nation we criticize but proudly stand with China, Russia, Nth Korea, and Israel and are only too happy to give NZ, Canada, Taiwan South Africa  Norway and other colonial nations who do give their Indigenous peoples a Voice the finger

“The United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, which was endorsed by Australia in 2009, recognizes that Indigenous people have the right to participate in decision-making in matters that would affect their rights, and that governments should consult with Indigenous people before making laws that affect them,” said Daniela Gavshon, the group’s Australia director. “It is a blight on Australia’s history that successive governments of various political persuasions have failed to uphold the rights of First Nations people.”

“It is a blight on Australia’s history that successive governments of various political persuasions have failed to uphold the rights of First Nations people,” said the Australia director for Human Rights Watch.

Communities with large populations of Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islanders voted overwhelmingly for the referendum, but nationwide, 60.4% of voters sided with a “No” campaign that relied on misleading the public about how the new policies would be implemented.

“That people who have only been on this continent for 235 years would refuse to recognize those whose home this land has been for 60,000 and more years, is beyond reason,”

“If only people down south had seen what Aboriginal people in the bush were voting for, then maybe we would have had a different result,” Marion Scrymgour, a member of Parliament for the Labor Party who represents Lingiari in the Northern Territory, toldThe Guardian. Forty percent of Scrymour’s constitutents are Indigenous, and 74% of the people living in the division’s most remote areas voted for the “Voice” referendum.

Peter Dutton is Australia’s figurehead of fear and fake news, like Trump but without charisma | Katharine Murphy | The Guardian

Opposition leader Peter DuttonBoomgate boo boo: Dutton's lame apology misses the point

Trump has all the characteristics of a psychopath. Charismatic yes, but, without any ability to empathize or be embarrassed when lying. Let’s face it he even unashamedly sexualizes his own daughter in public. On the day of 9/11, while witnessing a Twin Tower collapse, he was being interviewed by phone his comment on seeing what was happening from his window was “I once had the second tallest building in New York.” Now that’s the empathy we see in Dutton.

Boomgate Dutton after attending a Pacific Region Climate Change conference and hearing the fear of ever-rising tides experienced in Kiribati turned that nation’s concern into a joke. A joke to which he and Tony Abbott, our PM, jollied themselves on live TV. Dutton’s only strategy is to go full hog Trumpian and classic Abbott Nope Nope Nope politics. Truth, relevance even offensiveness become secondary to capturing the media’s attention. The public isn’t there to be served they’re there to be manipulated a classic psychopath’s trait but Dutton does it deadpan and without the charisma.

It is important to be clear-eyed about what is happening in our politics. Escalation by escalation, embellishment by embellishment, the Liberal leader is inhabiting the zone of the political fabulist. Like Trump, sans charisma, Dutton is the dancing bear of the engagement economy, dishing up provocations intended to capture the attention of readers and viewers.

This opposition leader makes things up regularly, sometimes several times a day, with growing confidence. He’s fully intent on shaping his own reality, and why wouldn’t he be? Dutton’s accusations and inventions are amplified much more often than they are factchecked, parsed or decoded, because there is so much bollocking and barracking in the public square, people can’t see the bullshit. That’s the point. That’s the strategy.

Craig Murray: Condemnation

Australia’s Shame: It’s had a Colonial Wall not as visible surrounding Indigenous Australians the foundations of which were imported and laid in 1788. It’s racist and may be crumbling ever so slowly but it needs to be pushed down and NO only repairs it and puts the brakes on the beginning of what needed to be changed for more than 250 years.

The political class internationally, with one voice, put out statements supporting “Israel’s right to self-defence,” a right they grant to the oppressor but deny to the oppressed.

Those are the people who need to be condemned.

Fighting Fake News with REAL, 5/10/23; The Audit, Dutton Mr Efficient Immigration Minister; Fear Mongering is all Top Down

“It is… – The Fiberal Party of Australia – Lies & Misdemeanours | Facebook

An audit of facts

It began at $40 B then dropped to $ 30 B the claim by No Campaigners money wasted on Indigenous Australians. However, $26 B was what Indigenous Australians would have received for simply being ordinary Australian citizens from a pool of $550 B. The No campaign exaggerated that 6% was an outrageous exception.

$4 B was allocated for their special needs which now Dutton and Price claim was wasted and needs to be strictly audited. Yes, it sounds like a demand for a Robodebt audit.  Well, it certainly wasn’t wasted by Indigenous Australians or the ALP was it!!

But now Dutton says an audit is needed because Ken Wyatt who was Indigenous, supported Yes and resigned from politics was incompetent. While Price is maintaining special allocations or an Indigenous Affairs Dept was never needed anyway.  More efficient Government supervision is what is required for a population of which some 80% live below or on the edge of poverty and are worse off than the disabled due to a systemic disregard and lack of opportunity.

The idea of an audit smells exactly like LNP “victim blaming” again. Bill Shorten found organized fraud and misappropriation not among the clients but by the NDIS providers. That it was intentionally disregarded to politically bankrupt the service. Dutton is claiming fraud or incompetence in the Aboriginal Affairs dept. Well, a report just released into Immigration suggested under his watch, organized crime took over and ran amok in the Dept while he sat back and did nothing. The LNP it seems did little or nothing in the way of service in any Ministerial sector of government. Nothing over their nine years but tripled the nation’s dept and are now claiming they alone are, and always were Australia’s better money managers.

Who for a moment believes that Boomgate Racist Dutton has changed his spots?

Wyatt doesn’t say it, but he might as well have: claiming that yet another audit will fix this, from the party that just conducted two dozen of them, is, as the witticism goes, the definition of insanity. But it doesn’t matter to Price and co whether these arguments make sense – only that voters feel a sense of personal aggrievement at the money being spent – wasted – on Indigenous Australians. There is no doubt a small amount of money in this area is being misspent, as it is many areas of government policy, and sometimes for personal or political gain. But as Uluru statement architect Megan Davis wrote on social media this morning, “the ‘audit’ response is status quo”, which is exactly what “No” seeks to maintain.”

Killing for Country: Another plank in truth-telling – Pearls and Irritations

Queensland Native Police 1864. Rockhampton.

. With the core records now gone we cannot be sure how many died at the hands of the Native Police. Marr writes that cautious interpretation of the remaining documentary fragments has seen estimates rise from 10,000 to 20,000 to more than 40,000, a figure which is “neither precise nor final”.

And what of guilt or shame that this was partly the work of Marr’s distant relatives? “I feel no guilt for what Reg did,” Marr writes, adding, however, “I can’t argue away the shame that overcame me when I first saw that photograph of Sub-Inspector Uhr in his pompous uniform. I was also intrigued by the shadowy forms of today’s politics emerging from the frontier wars—particularly the still potent belief in many quarters that the Aboriginal people deserve nothing for the continent they lost. Despising those we have wronged is another way we humans have of dealing with our shame … when the fighting was over, we forget about how Australia was won.”

WTF

DeSantis is Governing for himself the Presidency but not his State of Florida,

But in a few months, when he finally pulls the plug on his presidential campaign, he’ll have to return to our hot, sweaty, mosquito-infested state full of flooded streets and toxic algae blooms. He’ll have to face up to his betrayal of the people who looked to him for leadership. I hope he realizes then that those 30 pieces of silver he collected in Texas for his campaign were far too cheap a price for his integrity.

Extreme heat is one of the most direct and measurable shocks from climate change and one of the deadliest, according to the independent Climate Council.

The unseasonably hot and dry conditions are being felt across southern Australia, with temperatures peaking at 8C-16C above average across much of South Australia, NSW and Victoria.

We don’t know what October 14 will bring — but for many the Voice debate has already stirred up a hidden war – ABC News

A woman wearing a light blue shirt stands smiling on a balcony.

I’ve said “Sorry”. But being white, raised, socialized, and immersed in Australian culture I found myself on the racist spectrum, a continuum call it what you like I’m part unintentionally racist. I’ve ignorantly absorbed some of the cultural myths that have given rise to and supported institutionalized patterns of racist behavior and taken them on board through ignorance and disregard, have accepted them as normal. I need to do battle with the errors in my social psychology and just saying sorry isn’t good enough and needs to be joined with a resounding YES for change in the way this nation does things. Change that says  “I’ve listened and I’ve heard you” and “You’re right and my doing it is the beginning of a better Australia”

I spent a short time in Kunanarra my motel room was directly in front of the Primary school’s basketball courts. It was recess and what I witnessed was young kids interacting seemingly without any racial division. In my minds eye the kids were playing without prejudice the scene seemed colorless and it stood out. By the time I had driven about the town I had witnessed the harsh reality of two cities whose biggest buildings were occupied by major government Institutions. the Police Station, the Welfare Dept, and the supermarket a complete shadow cast over what I’d always been told was the “Lucky Country”.

I was gobsmacked when I overheard a retailer ring the police requesting they remove the “flower pots” from his very large shaded verandah. Those “pots” were some half-dozed aged indigenous Aussies looking for the cover, for shade from the intense heat of the Kimberly sun. On the fringe of Kunnarra, I saw the worst communal poverty I’d ever seen in Australia totally black. It spoke to the division that those young children I saw would come to expect as normal as time passed and inevitably be blamed on them as a “lifestyle choice” “the poverty of their culture” by a Racist Australia still saying ” Vote No today after 240 years of shame” simply because that’s the way history told us it’s always been. Yes is a first step my  Australia needs to take to accept a Universal Bill of Human Rights sorely lacking in this country and with an LNP who wants to rid us of even the United Nations Australian Human Rights Commission and the Racial Discrimination Act.

Racism comes in as many forms as there are people to both carry it out, whether knowingly or not, and to experience it.

I’m no longer five years old and subject to the blows that were doled out then. So, how is it that I, a middle-aged woman with career success living a life far more secure than that of many, can be feeling so reduced to nothingness when I have not been targeted as others have?

My colleague Stan Grant, the formidable Professor Marcia Langton, and of course, the great Adam Goodes, just to name a few whose stories we’ve heard.

When Racism is Institutionalised

Some Australians seem more outraged by accusations of racism than by racism itself | Katharine Murphy on politicsAndrew Bolt bolt flees Melbourne, trading one lefty paradise for another

Listening is a radical change that’s never been guaranteed by governments for 240 years. It’s Time to say Yes.

  • Institutionalized racism has sabotaged respectful listening to First Nations perspectives.
  • . Racism is one of the factors that explains a measurable gap between outcomes for Indigenous Australians and the rest of the population.
  • Talking about racism is a trap. When Indigenous leaders and other people of colour express frustration about its dogged persistence, they are often subjected to tone policing. They can be caricatured as angry, ungrateful, shrill. And gratuitous characterizations – the pernicious stereotypes of the angry black man or the irrational black woman – are another form of silencing.
Some White Australians are determined to use Indigenous Australians as a Political Football and it’s not those that vote Yes. Stan Grant, Adam Goodes, are examples of those who have faced off against the power of institutionalized racism.
Murdoch Media’s Andrew Bolt. Bolt was declared guilty under the Racial Vilification Act when he defamed Marcia Langton and 4 others as being Fake Aborigines and then in his defense claimed his right of “free speech”. As if there was an equivalence between right and wrong. Judge Mordecai Bromberg decided otherwise and Murdoch Media’s legal team didn’t appeal and their silence was an acknowledgement of Bolt’s guilt and not a case of “reverse racism”

Yes Group Links – Indigenous Australia

No group links- Global

Dr Jeremy Walker, a lecturer of political studies at the University of Technology Sydney, alleges No campaign disinformation is linked to the Atlas Network, a global network of right-wing think tanks and lobby groups that was partly funded by the billionaires Charles and David Koch.

The multibillionaire brothers were (David is now deceased) co-owners of Koch Industries, a conglomerate with interests in petroleum and chemicals, and have been credited with dragging American politics to the right by funding anti-union politicians.

Atlas was described this week by the New Republic as a “shadowy global network” with “powerful allies in the oil, gas, and extractive industries”.

The global network of organisations has previously been funded by the tobacco industry and includes LibertyWorks, an Australian activist group chaired by No campaign frontman Warren Mundine.

LibertyWorks reportedly owed the government more than $170,000 for failed legal cases brought against COVID-19 restrictions.

Advance Australia was contacted for comment.

Tim Gurner says employees have become too arrogant

Property developer Tim Gurner.

Tim Gurner is a tale stitched into the fabric of the Australian dream. The lump sum inheritance, or the familial guarantor. The financial backstop that’s always there in every story, though never in the headline. They are the foundational facts that are glazed over in the origin stories of Australia’s over-levered property wunderkinds.

The mindset of a brainless brat claiming “victimhood” and now being on “struggle street”. He should reveal his pay and bottom line over the past two decades rather than wail a dirge of mourning to his short-term loss of those recent Cha-Ching years. Gurner has no regard for the reality of the past 10 years where the data shows what he’s claiming is absolute bullshit.

Any financial downturn now in the building industry has been sudden and recent due to the rise in interest rates and the promises he made to secure his loans when rates were so low and for a very long time. If he’s financially squeezed now and over-leveraged and unprepared for it in the current market, it’s due to his own mismanagement. He can’t expect his workers to pay for for his fuck up. After all he didn’t share his profits with them during the boom times. But it sounds as if the little prick is promoting the expectations of Capitalism not to be made public and has made headlines globally. If he’s lucky he’ll be showered with money from a world of grandfathers and told to zip his lip.

Had he structured his business more cooperatively, sharing his profits with workers rather than railing against them he might have avoided the situation he finds himself in now. Seems his grandfather is dead and his family thinks he is an idiot and should have stayed mum. Hadn’t he heard of “phoenixing” a well-practiced builders’ strategy when financially in trouble.

“We need to see pain in the economy. We need to remind people that they work for the employer, not the other way around. There’s been a systematic change where employees feel the employer is extremely lucky to have them, as opposed to the other way around. It’s a dynamic that has to change.”

The war on “gender” is a fascist threat – » The Australian Independent Media Network

Posters made by Queer activists to fight the fascism platformed by the corporate media

When Murdoch pledges allegiance to the Right he does so in the global Anglosphere. So is there any chance the Right doesn’t unite behind the center of his power, America? After all, it’s where Peter Dutton fled to on being elected the leader of the opposition. His first stop to shop for his basket of strategies. Nothing new comes out of his mouth that wasn’t first heard and tested in the USA by the GOP, Trump, and or on Fox News.

Behind them lies the ultimate of puppetmasters with money to burn the Heritage Foundation and billionaires like the Kochs that have been fouling Democracy when Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, 558 U.S. 310 (2010), was the landmark decision of the Supreme Court of the United States regarding campaign finance laws and free speech under the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The court held 5–4 that the freedom of speech clause of the First Amendment prohibits the government from restricting independent expenditures for political campaigns by corporations, including nonprofit corporations, labor unions, and other associations. They are America’s political influencers today just as the IPA is ours.

The Right is obsessed with gender. This deep paranoia comes out of America and international far right movements. It harms straight people and LGBTQIA+ people differently, and we need to fight it before our copycat Right entrenches it here too.

One might argue that currently, Israel is the most anti-Semitic Nation. So much so it shames Judaism with its crimes against humanity. More and more Jews are protesting and saying “Israel isn’t us”

As a global community, we must take the time to understand the conditions that allowed hatred, racially fuelled bias and mass violence to take effect resulting in the Holocaust. By understanding the conditions leading to the atrocities of the Holocaust, we can gain insight into how and, importantly, when to act to mitigate such atrocities in the future.

The Big Four and the steep cost of a shadow workforce, hollowed out public service – Michael West

It’s been happening for decades and all sides of politics have a hand in how public servants became usurped by global consulting firms, diminishing the public service in the process. Who are these firms that hold so much influence over our governments and how do we keep them accountable? asks Lachlan Guselli.

Climate change crisis reality is hugely expensive

climate change Kohler

If The ALP Government is already dragging its feet on Climate Change why is Sky News After Dark complaining? Any wonder there’s been a seemingly corporate shift in attitude. I say seemingly because the ALP isn’t threatening their reality.

This year’s federal budget contained a bunch of new spending measures, but they mostly start with ‘m’ for millions not ‘b’ for billions. The total is well short of $37 billion, let alone $116 billion.

General view of Jerusalem

Jews in Australia aren’t so united when it comes to the actions of either the Israeli government nor Australias current response. There are those that don’t believe the ALP government has been strong enough.  Whereas the AZF and Dutton on the other hand support the current Israeli government fully and claim the ALP has betrayed Israel. They totally ignore the anti-Israeli sentiment by Jewish organizations and posture as if they didn’t exist. But what else could you expect from Dumbo Dutton?

Morrison’s strong welfare cop-out

When was Dutton ever at Garma in the past? His continued posturing and even stepping away from Morrison’s speech just a continued step in BS polka
Albanese offered Dutton a lift in his plane, but the invitation to “engage constructively … “instead of this absolute nonsense” was rejected. The opposition leader, who has attended Garma in the past, will instead be campaigning for a rejection of the Voice. The Uluru statement was endorsed at previous festivals and no doubt will feature again, and more heavily, so close to this acid test for recognition and reconciliation.

Clearly, the near-empty chamber at the beginning of the week was no harbinger of a change of the Liberal leader’s ( Peter Dutton’s) heart.”

Are we failing to see the wood for the trees on climate risks? – Pearls and Irritations

Planet Earth - ecology concept, global warming concept, the effect of environment climate change.

All in the face of a concentrated media, 60% plus owned by Rupert Murdoch, who denies there is any crisis impending us or the rest of the planet.

Extreme climate impacts are exploding in this year’s Northern Hemisphere summer. We urgently need to understand how climate disruption will affect Australians: their safety and well-being in the face of ever-more-extreme climate events, the viability of public and private infrastructure, communications and logistical systems, challenges to food security, and much more.

Trump’s Jan. 6 Defense Strategy: “Flood the Zone With Shit” | The Smirking Chimp

Andrew Bolt has always claimed his is the right of “free speech” When Judge Mordecai Bromberg found him guilty he whined like a spoilt child. He still does today yet we continue to let Murdoch Sky News anchors get away with blue murder. Australia doesn’t even have American First Amendment protections. It has prohibitively expensive defamation laws that protect the people that work for Murdoch.

“A person cannot walk into a bank and say, ‘stick ’em up,’ and then cling to the First Amendment’s protections.” Similarly, it’s not “free speech” when Trump told people to commit crimes for him, simply because he used his mouth to do so. Even Trump’s former attorney general, Bill Barr, dismissed this gambit by saying, “free speech doesn’t give you the right to engage in a fraudulent conspiracy.” As Barr pointed out, no conspiracy charge could stick if the “conspiring” part was excluded from evidence.
