Why the Israeli ‘peace camp’ disappeared

a crucial question: How has Israeli society transformed to the point where public protest against the wars and violations of Palestinian human rights has largely disappeared?

Colonizing Childhood and Zionist Pedagogy: Interview With Prof….a French child does not wake up every morning to say I am French! I am French! I am French! But the Jewish children have to dramatise their identity, their allegiance, their loyalty. Any Jewish Israeli that refuses to justify his/her presence there is asked to leave for she/he has no rightful place in Israel! There is no escape without really acknowledging the past and then comes the painful decision: what does one do with the past?

Again I want to stress that Israel’s prevailing culture of racism, fundamentalism, support for war crimes and apartheid against Palestinians is partly a product of an educational system that indoctrinates Jewish-Israeli students with militant colonial values and extreme racism that turn them into monsters once in uniform. Many in Israeli society are bewildered by the sadistic, gratuitous cruelty of Israeli soldiers towards Palestinians. Israelis have internalised the message that Palestinians are people whose life is dispensable with impunity and whose presence has to be diminished. One should not wonder then why, at the height of the Israeli massacre in Gaza 2008-2009, a Tel Aviv University poll (reported in the Jerusalem Post, Jan. ’09) of Jewish-Israeli opinion showed a shocking 94% support for the assault despite full knowledge of the enormous suffering this Israeli aggression had inflicted upon the 1.5 million Palestinians incarcerated in the Gaza “prison camp” and of the massive destruction of their civilian infrastructure. More BDS (Boycott Divestment & Sanctions) is needed to end Israeli occupation, colonialism and apartheid.

Fiddler on the Roof: West Bank version

While the focus is on Gaza and the destruction of anything that resembles a place to live in that overcrowded space, the gaze on what is occurring on the West Bank is averted… look over there at Gaza, remember October 7, release the hostages, nothing to see here, as villages are attacked, people harassed on a daily basis, security check, arrests for no apparent reason, a constant level of fear and intimidation.

Basic human rights are being denied on an ethnic basis, undesirables are being driven out but have no where to go while the world’s eyes are focussed on Gaza

It seems that the play Fiddler on the Roof is being re-scripted. But no option to convert to Judaism, no offer of resettlement, not even in Australia, a land of immigrants, just go anywhere but here… except where?

Sadism as a Tool of War in Gaza

Prisoners have recounted being paraded before the Israeli public in cages, being spat at and having bananas thrown at them. Human rights and recent press reports detail instances where soldiers inserted a mobile phone into a prisoner’s anus and then called it, laughing as it rang inside his body. Soldiers have also taunted prisoners by claiming they were playing soccer with their children’s heads in Gaza. These instances provide only a glimpse into the sadistic behaviour exhibited by Israelis against Palestinians during times of genocide.

The Chris Hedges Report: The Arab Jew Experience Exposes the Myths of Middle Eastern Antisemitism

A significant justification for Israel’s existence relies on the narrative that, because of the alleged inherent and rabid antisemitism of Arabs and Islam, the Jews of the Middle East never had a home. Without Israel, it is said, these Jews would be left on the fringes of Middle Eastern societies, marginalized for an irrational prejudice against their religion and ethnicity by Muslims.

Historian and author Avi Shlaim details in his book, “Three Worlds: Memoirs of an Arab Jew,” through personal experience and historical analysis the lies that this narrative is constructed upon.

“There was no history of antisemitism in the Arab world. Antisemitism is a European disease,” Shlaim tells Chris Hedges. “In the 1930s, antisemitism was exported from Europe to Iraq in particular, and it’s striking that there was no antisemitic literature in Arabic. So antisemitic literature had to be translated from European languages into Arabic…”

Refashioning War through Aid in Palestine – Elastic Empire

Washington’s economic contribution to UNRWA is now halted after accusations surfaced that UNRWA personnel had participated in the October 7 terrorist attack against Israel.

In October 2021, Israel outlawed six Palestinian NGOs arguing they were controlled by the PFLP. Among them were organizations such as Al-Haq or Defense for Children International – Palestine (DCI-P). The Israeli government underestimated the strong connections between these six NGOs and large international organizations such as Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International, which stood up for the Palestinian NGOs. Key European countries also continued to work with the NGOs targeted by Israel. A staffer at the NGO Al-Haq told Bhungalia that “Israel did not expect this outcome.”[3]

Israel miscalculated the effects of the move against the Palestinian NGOs. This, Bhungalia argues, has much to do with Israel’s nervousness over the ongoing investigation by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for possible Israeli war crimes. The targeted NGOs had been providing evidence to the ICC to document the case.

Israel moved against the six Palestinian NGOs soon after it became known that they had been targeted with Pegasus, the spying malware developed by the Israeli company NSO Group. For Israel, one of the goals for banning the NGOs was to retroactively justify the espionage they had suffered. Since The Guardian’s revelations two months ago, we also know now that Israeli intelligence agencies have been spying on the ICC for nine years.

No focus was examined on the language used by Zionists like Rabbi Lior, Ben-Gvir, Smotrich, or the educational texts of the State of Israel

“Extremists incite, threaten, forge social (dis)alignments, propagate hatred, and more through language. These texts often spread rapidly online, reaching and radicalising vulnerable individuals. By analysing the language, we can develop more effective strategies to counteract extremist narratives and prevent the spread of harmful ideologies.”

Israel’s genocide of Palestine is an irreconcilable stain on humanity

Plastic bags of human remains, children dead with multiple high powered sniper wounds, the sanctioned abuse of detainees in jails, destroying reservoirs, killing leaders in political assassinations at presidential inaugurations abroad – you’d think that would be enough now. That something like this could happen for ten months straight. How could a people sustain such overt and total destruction on another? You would think in a modern world that these stories come out of some fictional dystopian tale about what humans need to remember to avoid something like this happening in the future – but it’s happening now – and it’s staining the hearts and minds of all who live on this earth. It has to stop, but it’s probably not going to

Bloody Eschatology: Israel and the next Big War

The richly violent musings of Ben-Gvir and his circle of sanctified terror have even proven indigestible for some members of the war cabinet. Defence Minister Gallant, not immune from the urge to dehumanise the residents of Gaza, accused his national security counterpart of being a “pyromaniac”. On the X platform, he declared his opposition against “any negotiations to bring him into the war cabinet – it would allow him to implement his plans.” The same Gallant, however, was also in celebratory mood about the assassinations.

Even outside the war cabinet, the views of Ben-Gvir, not to mention his overall influence, travel with toxic rapture. In the background, incandescently inspiring, is Rabbi Dov Lior, a figure of glowing nationalist fury. It was he who incited members of the Jewish Underground to conduct various terrorist attacks in the 1980s against Palestinians. (The same group also unsuccessfully plotted to blow up the Dome on the Rock.)

This, as former UK diplomat Alastair Crooke observes, is the State of Judea doing battle against the State of Israel. He quotes Moshe “Bogie” Ya’alon, former Chief of Staff of the IDF, who sees such bloody eschatology as resting on a fundamental concept: “Jewish supremacy” or “Mein Kampf in reverse”. For Rabbi Lior, the next big war cannot come soon enough, one, he anticipates, that is bound to feature Gog and Magog.

“Another Massacre”

According to Israel history began on 7/10.

Applying the Israeli historical yard stick Palestinians could just as reasonably say their history began when Israel dropped the first bomb. Or when Netanyahu refused any further ceasefires or prisoner exchanges in November 2023.

However, a more meaningful context would be when Jewish migrants once asylum seekers became a Zionist terrorist force in Palestine and upsetting the balance in the then British Mandate of Palestine. Until then some individual Jews only had purchased 1-2% of Palestinian land and might be regarded as “migrants” the majority though “asylum seekers” prepared to become Palestinian citizens should the territory have become a Palestinian State. Only a minority were then politically motivated Zionists and largely Polish rather than German.

In 1933 the Zionists signed an agreement with Hitler that resulted in 60,000 German Jews being deported (exported) along with their wealth (confiscated) by both Germany and the Zionists in Palestine in an agreed exchange for the export of German goods. Had this historical collusion of self-interest not occurred Hitler’s government would have been bankrupt by 1934

Israeli Society Is in a Deepening State of Contradiction

Israel is arguably at its most precarious moment in national security since its founding, with the public’s confidence in both political and military leaders at an all-time low. The question is whether Israelis will start to openly challenge the working assumptions on which their security has been based for decades. If they fail, or are unable, to do so, they can only pray that the other key actors — the U.S. and Iran — find it sufficiently in their interests to pull us all back from the abyss.

Since Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack on Israel, legislators at the state and local level have led antisemitism-addressing legislation, including two Fine bills signed days before he raised this book-based concern. The measures authorize enhanced security outside Jewish day schools and adopt a definition of antisemitism that includes “[m]aking mendacious, dehumanizing, demonizing, or stereotypical allegations about Jewish individuals as such or the power of Jewish people as a collective, such as the myth of a worldwide Jewish conspiracy or of Jewish individuals controlling the media, economy, government, or other societal institutions.”

The declared intention is “to assist in the monitoring and reporting of anti-Semitic hate crimes and discrimination and to make residents aware of and to combat such incidents in this state.”

The Transfer Agreement: Nazi Support for a Jewish State in Palestine

From 1933 to 1939, Hitler provided the future government of Israel with the assets of German Jews in exchange for aid undermining an international anti-Nazi boycott.

“An Indispensable Factor in the Creation of the State of Israel”

The collusion between Nazis and Zionists reached its apex in “the Transfer Agreement,” an arrangement between them that allowed the former to undermine an international boycott against German goods and the latter to access the assets of German Jews. The partnership between such ostensible enemies underscored the one point on which they both agreed: Jews had no future in Europe.

Proof positive Zionists put the Israeli nation-state over Jews themselves. German Jews at the center of were relatively non-Zionist, wealthy and assimilated into German society. While supportive of the voluntary migration to Palestine from places like Poland, a stronghold of Zionism they were much more likely to seek refuge in neighboring European countries. Even the Nazis acknowledged the fundamental disconnect between German Jews and Zionism. Estimated to be only 1 or 2 per cent of German Jews who considered themselves assimilated, loyal Germans.

Zionism was equally repugnant to orthodox German Jews, who spurned Jewish sovereignty in the Holy Land on religious grounds (e.g. that only the Jewish Messiah could reinstate the Kingdom of the Jews). In 1933, then, Zionism in Germany was a mere Jewish fringe movement. To even say that only 4% today don’t support Netanyahu is fiction as 20% of Israelis are Orthodox.

In 1933 Zionists were equally self-interested: If German Jews were going anywhere but Palestine, their $$$ could not be put toward building the Jewish state.
So, the Nazis and the Zionists were well-positioned to help each other. The Nazis could grant the Zionists access to the assets of those German Jews forcefully deported, and the Zionists could help the Nazis undermine the international boycott.

The negotiations suited both parties and included future prime ministers David Ben-Gurion, Levi Eshkol and Golda Meir: The assets of German Jews were liquidated kept and used to pay for German-made goods destined for Palestine. That agreement allowed the Nazis to continue expelling German Jews withholding their capital and using it instead to finance the import and export of German goods to Palestine, undermining the international boycott. For their part, the Zionists were able to establish an economic base for the future Israeli state. Had this not occurred on a large scale the Nazi government may have fallen by 1934,

Zionists prioritizing the Israeli nation-state over Jews goes on today. While Netanyahu and the rest of the Israeli government maintain that they are acting in the interests of Jews everywhere, they are in fact whipping up antisemitism their forever driving force to get Jews to flee to mother Israel. Even as anti-Zionist Jewish groups in the diaspora like Jewish Voice for Peace and IfNotNow decry the daily Gazan massacres, and Israelis take to the streets to demand their government accept a cease-fire deal. While Netanyahu’s government continues to declare even more of the hostages in Gaza to be dead.
