Michelle Obama for President? Yes, she can! – » The Australian Independent Media Network

The American Israel Lobby would never accept a black American woman with morals

Would Harris stand aside and be prepared to be Obama’s vice presidential running mate? That’s a big ask for someone who’s already the current heir to the throne. Why would she agree to be relegated to a spare?

And yet, a Michelle Obama/Kamala Harris ticket is not only compelling, it may just save the Democrats and may yet save America from repugnant Trumpian Republicanism.

A presidential Trump loss would hopefully chasten the Grand Old Party and rejuvenate it. Force it to reform; shed its skin. It ain’t healthy to have a weak political opponent in Federal or state politics, let alone have weak governments as incumbents.

Can Michelle Obama defeat Donald Trump?

Yes, she can.

The Voice. A simple proposition of empathy to be ruined by time and politics? – Michael West

Uluru Statement

A Voice 2023 Stolen like the “Never Stolen Generation of Children” The odds against the referendum were already stacked by the electoral college hurdle it faced of 50% in each state and a majority of states required for it to pass. That alone proved it would be a highway to hell for yes and heaven for a Racist Australia

If the polls are to be believed, the referendum question will be soundly voted down this Saturday. It could – and should – have been so different.

No good reason to vote ‘No’

Dutton proves to us when it comes to logic and or reason he lives his life and leads with none. He is after all mr Boomgate and acts before he thinks. According to Waleed Aly

Currently the system has the government allocate money by whatever mechanisms currently exist. It’s the system over which Peter Duttons Coalition itself presided most recently for nine years. The exact system that a No vote would preserve. However according to Dutton “The system is broken” which is the argument you make for change or “Yes”, not for the status quo. But, for whatever reason you might support it, a No vote simply delivers the status quo.

Somewhere amidst the array of tangential arguments surrounding the Voice, the idea took root that governments across Australia spend more than $30 billion a year on Indigenous Australians. The figure isn’t so much a lie as it is misleading. It gives the impression of being the amount spent on programs exclusively for Indigenous Australia, but  it’s actually not, Only about $4 – $6 billion answers that description. The rest – outlined in a 2016 Productivity Commission report – is simply the Indigenous share of government spending on all Australians on things like health and education.

The common thread is the trope of special treatment. Perhaps the most persistent criticism of the Voice is that it gives Indigenous Australians  an institutional status no one else can have. In this view, it is not a proposal for reconciliation, but for privileging. That’s what the No campaign means when it calls the Voice “divisive” and racial. For some, that objection is limited only to its presence in the Constitution,

The system is in desperate need of some proper advice, perhaps from a representative body of some sort. That’s the promise the Voice holds, really. A kind of rolling audit, admittedly without the authority to compel or punish but, importantly, also without the party-political imperatives. that have over ridden past decisions. According to Aly then, it’s a matter of which auditor you prefer. And in recent times that choice has been PwC or any other corrupt big 4 that Dutton has turned to for the last 9-10 years but not on any account an Indigenous Voice or Black and therefore Racial

Dr Jeff McMullen AM discusses the fundamental need for a Voice to Parliament to address the disproportionate burdens faced by First Nations Australians.

Yes rallies issue calls to cut through Voice falsehoods

Warren Mundine Voice

Warren Mudine says he represents Indigenous Australians but doesn’t name any of them nor do you ever see him with an Indigenous crowd standing behind him when speaking. Then he goes on to say if Yes wins he will jump ship and “try” to be elected to represent Indigenous Australians while also trying to get preelected by the No Voter’s LNP Senate ticket. Meanwhile, Mundine is a foundation member and the spokesperson for Advance otherwise known as Fair Australia funded by non-other than the American, ultra Right-wing, anti- Climate Change group, the  Heritage Foundation who make the KKK, neo-Nazis and Christian Nationalists look like political amateurs when it comes to influencing global politics.

Warren Mundine is the ex-president of the ALP we know only too well that he’s an ambitious self-interested operator cut from the same cloth as Scott Morrison who currently supports his preselection for that Senate seat. Mundine worked for Murdoch’s Sky News for heaven’s sake with a $300K+ grant from the LNP.  The man chases money and power and has the political integrity of a yo-yo. He’s currently advocating anything and everything in order not to entirely destroy his opportunities post-October 14th.. The man is a Golem and in my view that only represents himself. He’s a “Coconut” to many indigenous Australians who it’s said divorced his wife because she was too black.

Mass marches have taken place across the nation, with Indigenous leaders calling for those who support a constitutionally enshrined advisory body to cut through disinformation they say is being spread by the ‘no’ side.

Your choice – people or ideology. – » The Australian Independent Media Network

We can start by supporting the Voice Referendum. Giving our First Nations people input into decisions that affect their lives is logical because we all know that imposing economic solutions hasn’t worked for over 200 years. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if the next referendum was to revoke the Voice to Parliament because there was essentially equity in lifespans and opportunities between all who choose to live in this country?

We have the means and ability to help people rather than ideology on October 14 – don’t waste it.

Andrew Bolt “Country Boy” once bragged how he had a “bestie” Aboriginal friend at school. I’m not sure but Alan might have been his name.  Anyway, its obviously unimportant because, he certainly doesn’t give a shit about him now. ” It must now be crushed: Andrew Bolt says Voice to Parliament is ‘dead’ but a narrow defeat would be a ‘disaster'( Andrew Bolt)

So I’m voting Yes for Jake. And the tens of thousands like him.

If you 'don’t know' about the Voice, how about you actually listen?

“Yes” Lidia but It begins with a “Yes”  and not “No”

Senator Lidia Thorpe was at the National Press Club outlining many of the arguments the Indigenous “progressive No” have been making, and highlighting what she believes is the way forward:

– Truth-telling about Australia’s history,

– Implementing the recommendations of the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody,

– Implementation of recommendations from the Bringing Them Home Report,

– Writing the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples into Australian law, – Treaty.

Aboriginal Australians may at last be given a say in their own affairs

In 1967 even Harold Holt said Yes would improve our standing in the eyes of the rest of the world. However, while that removed the racial references in our Constitution it didn’t go far enough. hidden from plain sight the racist possibilities still remained. Aborigines and Torres Strait Islanders remained more migrants than fully-fledged Australians simply because of their race.

Most Australians thought that the 1967 referendum would allow full citizenship rights for Indigenous Australians. But the referendum didn’t give Aborigines the vote, equal pay or citizenship rights. It also didn’t address their rates of pay or personal freedoms – issues that also needed urgent attention.

Yet the Voice would give Aboriginal people a say where they still have little. A leg up for them does not mean a leg down for others. What better way, indeed, for a nation to come together than to deal with its greatest unfinished business. And what a blunder it would be to deny indigenous Australians a fair go.”Aboriginal Australians may at last be given a say in their own affairs

Want to give First Nations real power in Canberra? Rex Patrick reckons a vote is preferable to a Voice – Michael West

Let me be upfront: I’ll be voting for the Voice to Parliament. But I won’t be voting yes because I think it will give Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people any substantial influence on national policy. Rather I’ll be voting yes because it’s the only option on the table to give Indigenous Australians at least some recognition in our Constitution.

Why wouldn’t you vote Yes? – » The Australian Independent Media Network

Justice Crowley is the first Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person in Australia to be appointed as a Supreme Court justice. His Honour is an impressive person, not only because he displays erudition, but there is also a dignity to his manner which emanates from a place of compassion which is untrammeled by any matters of the racism he endured during his early life. As I stated at the outset of this article, Justice Crowley so eloquently stated last Monday evening, “Why wouldn’t you vote yes.” It is a yes from me, as I hope it is from all of you.

‘He is now irrelevant’: Does Tony Abbott’s defeat on marriage mark his final decline in Canberra?

Former prime minister Tony Abbott in Parliament alongside fellow Liberal conservative Kevin Andrews.

With a 79.5 per cent participation rate and a 61.6 per cent “yes” verdict, the survey was a blunt rejection of Tony Abbott and his religious confreres. And crucially, it came via a direct public buy-in they had demanded.

To those who think the YES campaign is too “in your face” – » The Australian Independent Media Network

I know we are supposed to show respect to the NO side in the marriage equality debate but for how long? When Robert Menzies introduced the Marriage Act in 1961, a Country Party senator wanted to change the act to define marriage as being between a man and a woman. The amendment was voted down…

Day to Day Politics: Words left unsaid. – » The Australian Independent Media Network

Saturday 9 September 2017 Have you ever written something and felt that you hadn’t finished what you intended to say? Such was the case after I had completed my Friday post; “Out of gas, steam, and no energy for gay marriage.” When I reread it later it seemed empty of conclusion. Now that the High…
