The New York Times has reported that a Manhattan grand jury voted to indict former President Donald Trump for his role in paying hush money to Stormy Daniels, citing four sources. The paper notes that the indictment is currently under seal and will be announced in coming days. Right-wing media had loudly complained about the looming indictment in recent weeks, in particular focusing their ire on Alvin Bragg, the Manhattan district attorney. Below are key examples of Fox News and other right-wing media reactions to the report. This report will be continually updated throughout the evening of March 30.

The “nepo babies” of right-wing media | Media Matters for America

“Nepo babies” — short for nepotism babies — are the children of high-profile people who likely benefited from their parents’ connections, fame, and insider industry knowledge to catapult their own careers. From blog contributors to Fox Corp. executives, nepo babies are a staple of the right-wing media universe.

Right-wing media rewrite history and claim Russia’s invasion never would have happened under Trump | Media Matters for America

When the world of fact-free corporatized opinion is allowed to dominate and be sold as News, chaos rains. Individuals, subs and ratings have become the product with which corporate media competes and where the wealth lies the playing ground. News no longer is what’s needed to attract the flow of $$$. If you want News I’m afraid you will need to look elsewhere. So it’s time the corporate media’s product be renamed or charged for selling false product. It’s not News as we once knew it. Unfortunately in Australia the L-NP focuses on neutering the ABC the nations only major News seller and public auditor of government policies and actions and will continue to do so. The ALP accepts the role of the ABC moreso than the L-NP in our Democracy. To audit, inform and force governments of all persuasions to explain and justify themselves. A role the L-NP, the privileged and powerful interests the market to whom the L-NP cater want canceled.

Following Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, right-wing media glossed over former President Donald Trump’s history of withholding aid and repeating Russian President Vladimir Putin’s talking points to claim the invasion never would have happened under Trump’s administration.

Right-wing voices blame LGBTQ inclusion, “woke ideology” for Taliban takeover of Afghanistan | Media Matters for America

Rainbow pride flag with tweets from Kyle Becker, Ben Shapiro, and Matt Walsh superimposed onto it

Right-wing figures are attacking “woke ideology” in the U.S. military and using anti-LGBTQ rhetoric in their tirades against the American withdrawal from Afghanistan, including spreading the false claim that the U.S. embassy in Kabul flew a LGBTQ pride flag on its rooftop ahead of the Taliban’s takeover. Conservative outlets have seized on the current media fixation on the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan and its fallout to attack the Biden administration and Afghan refugees, and they are also criticizing the so-called “woke agenda” in their commentary over the Taliban’s takeover of the country. (Right-wing media have co-opted the term “woke” from Black activists and now use it as a derogatory catch-all term to encompass their grievances against social justice initiatives.)

This Quote from a Trump Voter on the Mueller Report Shows How Deeply Right-wing Media Has Warped Its Viewers’ Reality | The Smirking Chimp

This is so damaging because it doesn’t just increase polarization by amplifying opinions on either side of an issue. It builds partisan barriers within the country where conservatives don’t even have a clue what critics of the president and Democrats are talking about. If Mueller’s report really did exonerate the president, it would be absurd for any Democrats — or, indeed, Amash — to be citing it as a basis for impeachment. In reality, this conclusion is entirely rational and arguably obligatory, even if Fox News doesn’t admit it.

This is a destructive path for a society to take, but it’s where right-wing media is taking us.
