Importantly, it has made me reflect on the conflict continuing today, but also to go back to where it really started… back about 120 years ago with the arrival of the modern Zionist movement in 1896 declaring Eretz Israel as a national homeland for Jews, the Balfour Declaration of 1917 to establish a ‘national home for the Jewish people’ in Palestine, encouraging the establishment of Jewish settlements in Palestine and the beginning of Kibbutz as community focussed farming and the settlement after WWII as sanctioned by the UN.
The attitude to Palestinians throughout this time, and into the UN support for the establishment of Israel has been that of colonial occupiers treating indigenous peoples as barbaric, uncivilised, less than human, even terrorists, and able to be shoved aside for the new claimants to the land, as has occurred time and again in Africa, the Americas, the Caribbean and even here in Australia.

The term “Zionist lobby” would be better described as “pro-Israel lobby”. Israel is not a Jewish only state, even with its quite exclusionary 2018 Nation State law. Some 20% of its population is not Jewish. There are no mainstream organisations in the Australian Jewish community that advocate a Jewish only state.

Zionists have been playing the same strategic game for well over 100 years. They initiated and began fomenting division in a peaceful Palestine as far back as 1917 with terrorist militias that evolved to become The Haganagh the Jewish defacto “defense force” a duplicitous terrorist militia “assisting” a weak and reluctant British Force to help quell those Muslim hordes. The peace that once was natural to Palestinians and Jews was intentionally disrupted by Zionist idealogues knowing the British wanted to leave the region and other of their colonies. The UN could then proclaim Palestine the State of Israel as they did in 1948 but not enough. Jews who were once seen as the victims of WW2 weren’t about to give that mantle up too easily and have been carrying it ever since despite being dubbed America’s proxy and 4th most powerful army on the planet
Israel has played the victim all along with sighs of sympathy and offers of support from Western governments and audiences. They declared themselves ‘the’ victim, not just The victim but the ‘only’ victim. As such, they are entitled to do to us, the Palestinians under their control, whatever they wish with Impunity.
If a Jew raises these issues in the contemporary setting of the war, then the libel and slander of antisemite and self-hating Jew will closely follow. The dogs and masters of war have even turned against the Jewish ideas of repairing the world and not doing to others what a person does not want done to them. It’s not antiwar Jews who need a huge mirror held above our collective selves, but the Zionists and warmongers who need that mirror handed over to them. Their ugliness and hate in that reflection and on the ground are apparent and blinding.
