Australia’s vicious constitutional cycle needs to be broken

When you hear LNP politicians Like James Patterson speak of Israel being a Liberal Democracy you know it’s time to become a Republic and change our Constitution. James Patterson echoes the sound bytes of the 19th Century Squattocracy who while expressing their loyalty to laws of the  King and Country were simply ignoring them and refusing to be dictated to as a British Colony. Australia stood alone ruled by the Sqattocracy whose loyalty was purely to themselves because they believed they sat here on the top of the food chain and were more needed by Britain than they were of it. The small contingent of governors and military largely based in the cities were simply a gesture to the King and were complicit in ignoring the laws and this became reflected in our Racist no-recognition Constitution of 1901 along with no treaties as was required by British Law.

Surely, this is an additional reason why Australians urgently need a new constitution. The idea of a treaty can be incorporated into that. It would also be entirely desirable if Australia is to become a republic. It has been almost impossible to change anything in this colonial Constitution for over 123 years. The vicious cycle needs to be broken. In the meantime, measures aimed to improve the situation for the Indigenous people should be legislated as soon as possible.

Trump’s lawyers argue proposed protective order in 2020 election case violates free speech | CBC News

A person gestures while speaking.

Apparently, in America, you can walk into a bank and yell “This is a hold-up ” according to Trump. You’re protected under the First Amendment’s and “free speech” protection.

Prosecutors on Friday had asked U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan for a protective order limiting how evidence from the trial may be handled. That filing pointed to a post from Trump on his Truth Social site that said, “IF YOU GO AFTER ME, I’M COMING AFTER YOU!”

Opinion | Indict Trump for Insurrection, Too | Common Dreams

Angry Trump supporters swarm through the halls of the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.

The sole criminal prohibition that would disqualify Trump from the ballot,(is found) under Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment, where “insurrection,” is made criminal by 18 United States Code Section 2383.

Section 3 categorically disqualifies from public office at any level of government any official who, after having taken an oath to support the Constitution of the United States, engages in “insurrection” against it.

We urge Special Counsel Jack Smith to unilaterally, or with the approval of Attorney General Garland, return to the federal grand jury in Washington, D.C., and ask for a superseding indictment adding a count for insurrection in violation of Section 2383. Not a single word in the factual narrative of the preceding indictment need be changed.

The future of our Republic is too important to be left to shortchanging the fullest legal case against Trump.

Voice to Parliament: ‘Yes’ vote has many enemies

Does the Constitution need changing is The referendum

What comes after Parliament determines and is elected. Is “a Voice TO not IN parliament a reasonable request?

Their demand for information on “what the Voice will be” is not entirely a red herring. The Labor Government’s statement that it’ll be decided by Parliament after the referendum succeeds, is not satisfying what a large number of people think they should know, before voting “Yes”. It is an added risk, that as soon as you give some plan, oppositionists will start debating the plan — attacking the main idea by attacking the example. But that might have to be the cost of shutting them up about providing “details”.

Why we must not tolerate intolerance – » The Australian Independent Media Network

The speed of the Pentecostal movement’s growth means we need to be informed. Scott Morrison’s intrusions of religion into parliament have raised the discussion, despite traditional journalists lagging behind the urgent need. We can no longer say that “a man’s faith is his own business” when that faith demands the imposition of intolerant rules on the secular majority.

While the Right bemoans that the majority is cancelling their Christianity, we must counter that argument. It is not a faith that gives you spiritual comfort and guidance that the majority questions. It is a faith that denies the rest of us our well-being that we cannot accept.

The naivety of the man-child they call Mr President – » The Australian Independent Media Network

If anyone thought Trump’s campaign rhetoric was overblown bluff, the last week should have disabused them of that notion. The man-child that they now call Mr President has been issuing executive orders at a blistering pace. The only trouble is, there is no plan behind any of them. Many of them appear to be unconstitutional,…
