Throughout Israel’s brutal campaign in Gaza, Egypt has presented itself as a friend of the Palestinians. In reality the Egyptian government, against the will of its citizens, continues to enforce the blockade of Gaza and offer tacit support to Israel.
While Israelis celebrated the release of four captives secured by the military in Gaza on Saturday, Palestinians mourned hundreds of people killed during the daytime operation.
Palestinian officials said that more than 210 Palestinians were killed and 400 injured in central Gaza on Saturday, including in the area where the Israeli military says it rescued the four captives from two separate apartments blocks in a residential area of Nuseirat refugee camp.

If this scenario had been written into a novel at the turn of 19th century it would have been too unthinkable to believe it could actually take place – assisting in the bombing of innocent civilians, then charging in to feed them, appearing like the saviour of your victims.
The US could ask if their responsibility in this war is what made the engineering of a pier necessary. Since the US and Israel are breaking so many international laws, flouting the ICC and ICJ rulings, perhaps they could break their usual rules of brute force, hegemony and violence and address just where they think their countries are headed if rules don’t apply to either State and violence is too often their answer.

Officials on the ground in Gaza say that at least 12 of the people killed were women. The Israeli army denied it struck the area.
Two days after an Israeli air strike on another camp stirred global condemnation, Gaza emergency services said four tank shells hit a cluster of tents in Al-Mawasi on Tuesday local time — a coastal area that Israel had advised civilians in Rafah to move to for safety.
At least 12 of the dead were women, according to medical officials in Gaza.
The Hamas-run health ministry said at least 64 others were injured.
The Israeli army denied it struck the area.

In any case, the Palestinian death toll is very likely a vast undercount. Not only are there thousands trapped under the rubble in Gaza who are not included in the OCHA death toll, but Israel’s systematic destruction of the territory’s hospitals and periodic communication blackouts have led to large gaps in the reporting of deaths.
As always, the most potent, far-reaching, and deadly misinformation so often comes from exactly those voices we’re told are the most trusted, like think tanks respected in Washington, elected officials, and certain mainstream news outlets. It’s for this reason the recent push to control and censor the information transmitted on social media will likely only accelerate — all for the sake of allowing one of the most heinous crimes we’ve seen this century to go on and on.

Biden and other Democrats must draw the starkest possible contrast between Trump’s unhinged childishness and Biden’s competent adulthood.
Rather than sell Biden’s policies, sell Biden’s character. Rather than dispute Trump’s arguments, condemn his temperament.

Armed Israeli settlers raided more than a dozen Palestinian communities under the army’s guard, leaving a trail of death and destruction in their wake.
According to the human rights group Yesh Din, Israeli settlers attacked 11 Palestinian villages and towns on Saturday alone. They threw stones, set fire to more than 100 vehicles, damaged scores of homes and businesses, and slaughtered hundreds of livestock. In the village of Beitin, near Ramallah, settlers shot dead 17-year-old Omar Hamed. In Al-Mughayyir, slightly further north, 25-year-old Jihad Abu Aliya was killed in circumstances that are still somewhat unclear: settlers were attacking the village at the time, but the Israeli army stated that Abu Aliya was killed by their fire. Another incident captured on a security camera shows Israeli soldiers standing guard while settlers set fire to a car in the town of Deir Dibwan, also near Ramallah.

USA Vetoes an End to Statelessness
An end to this statelessness is one of the things that is meant by “from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.” Congress has repeatedly obstructed any attempt to end Palestinian statelessness or to realize the vision of even the British colonialists, supercilious and racist as they were. Congress is clearly much more so. “It is proper,” British officials maintained, “that the people of the country should as early as possible enjoy the rights of self-government which are exercised by the people of neighbouring countries.” “As early as possible” was not envisioned in 1939 as some date after 2024.
This cult of balance or even-handedness has now come to the point where it serves only to hinder the pursuit of investigative truth. It obscures wider context, abdicates ethical responsibility to call wrong out for being wrong, provides justification for all manner of evil, and gives air to voices often best left unheard. About 322 humanitarian trucks have been allowed to get into the Gaza Strip from both the Karem Abu Salem (known as Kerem Shalom to Israelis) crossing and the Rafah crossing here in Rafah.
These humanitarian convoys are loaded with water, sugar, flour and all kinds of basic necessities that Palestinians very desperately need.
But none of these humanitarian convoys has been given access to reach the northern part of the Gaza Strip, despite the Israeli military decision to reopen again the Erez crossing (Beit Hanoon) and to guarantee further flow of humanitarian supplies to people in the north.
Generally in times before the war, between 400 and up to 500 humanitarian trucks were reaching the Gaza Strip on a daily basis. This means these new deliveries are still incomparable to the massive needs of populations here, specifically those who are trapped in the northern parts of Gaza and facing high rates of malnutrition.
