But where Bishop Coleridge goes off the rails, is in thinking that same sex couples do not feel the same love for each other as do a man and a woman who wish to marry. He, as a celibate man, could not possibly know that.

A young Brisbane woman who was flying rainbow flags outside her house in support of same-sex marriage has had her windows smashed in with rocks in a late-night attack police said may be linked to three other incidents nearby.
Specifically, there is a strong and statistically significant association between higher cognitive ability and a greater likelihood to support equal rights between same- and different-sex couples. This may shed some light on why those who stand against equal rights may not be persuaded by evidence-based arguments in the ongoing same-sex marriage debate.
But in this case we’re talking about political journalists telling LGBTQI people how to argue that they should be given equal rights. If we’re going to put ourselves in the position of lecturing a minority on how to do something they’ve spent decades doing already – and really quite effectively – then wouldn’t we want a better success rate to point to?
During the conciliation, Delaney presented Porteous with a revised copy of the booklet, which removed the line “messing with marriage is messing with kids” and made minor changes throughout the document to make it clear the Church was talking about beliefs and teachings, not facts. It did not remove any teachings on marriage, nor did it ask that the church support same-sex marriage. But the offer was rejected — much to Delaney’s chagrin.”I made every attempt I could to assist the Catholic Church to be able to say what they believed, but do it in a respectful manner, and not say things like my partner and I raising a child is messing with kids,” Delaney told BuzzFeed News.

I asked Peter McNeil, a fashion historian and author, to explain why the whole dress thing unleashes all these feelings. He says it’s only been for the past 600 or so years that men have worn pants.”The irony is that when men began wearing pants, all the moralists complained about them. Bernardino de Siena said parents were pimping out their sons by putting them in trousers.”And trousers provide free movement for all.Which brings me back to Cella White. I’m on board with her at least for pants. Vote yes for pants for girls and boys. And yes for same sex marriage. Thanks for putting me straight, Cella.

I have long been involved in one of the key civil rights causes of our day: the struggle for marriage equality. As a lawyer in Canada in the past, I was involved in same-sex marriage litigation in that country. That was early in the last decade, around 2002. Ever since, I have written about the issue and engaged in debate about it. I now feel I’ve heard it all – all the arguments against marriage equality. And I feel very confident at this point saying that none of the arguments against marriage equality holds up in the light of logic.
The novelty of this debate is seeing how advocates from the Left perspective have marched in favour of same-sex marriage when marriage itself has lost its appeal to many progressives. The only argument left, then, is the equality of choice: same-sex couples should be perfectly entitled to enter into a flawed, anachronistic institution should they wish to. We should all be entitled to make our own mistakes.

The No campaign is accused of making misleading claims about same-sex marriage following the release of an ad featuring claims boys will be encouraged to wear dresses to schools if the Yes vote gets up.
I see no evidence of it yet. That woman on the train doesn’t know I’m Gay Married — she doesn’t care. No upheaval has occurred in the U.K. since legalising gay marriage, so why would it in ours? If you want to talk religious argument, this is what I say to you: If you trust your Gods judgement, why don’t you let Him take care of the smiting? You sit back, chillax, love a little, let your hair down.
Just like the mistake climate change activists have been making for years (including me) in trying to argue with deniers, by arguing with the garbage from the no campaign, you give their position legitimacy and imbed the idea that there are uncertain outcomes from marriage equality. Instead, keep it simple. Keep it small. Rinse and repeat. Celebrate when the yes vote wins. And then the battle begins to get the yes vote through parliament.

There are no reasonable or rational arguments to oppose marriage equality. The usual lines about the sanctity of the “nuclear family” and concerns over children will no doubt get a run but that is not what the survey is about.
