Opinion | Have Any Lessons Been Learned in Three Months of Bloodshed in Gaza? | Common Dreams

Survivors of the al-Ahli Hospital attack in Gaza City

Israel has a history of crossing borders to kill people it brands its enemies and creates what it wants to destroy. The reverse has been proved time and again not to be the case. Palestinians don’t have a history of invasion like Israel’s

The problem, of course, is that while this dance of death between Israelis and Palestinians continues to unfold, the US has demonstrated that it too hasn’t learned any lessons.

Chris Hedges: Israel’s Genocide Betrays the Holocaust – ScheerPost

The Holocaust was weaponized from almost the moment Israel was founded. It was bastardized to serve the apartheid state. If we forget the lessons of the Holocaust, we forget who we are and what we are capable of becoming. We seek our moral worth in the past, rather than the present. We condemn others, including the Palestinians, to an endless cycle of slaughter. We become the evil we abhor. We consecrate the horror.

A lesson coronavirus is about to teach the world, by Jonathan Cook – The Unz Review

As never before, coronavirus will bring into focus the depraved inefficiency of this system – the model of profit-driven health care, of market forces that look out for the short-term interests of business, not the long-term interests of us all.

There are alternatives. Right now, Americans are being offered a choice between a democratic socialist, Bernie Sanders, who champions health care as a right because it is a common good, and a Democratic party boss, Joe Biden, who champions the business lobbies he depends on for funding and his political success. One is being marginalised and vilified as a threat to the American way of life by a handful of corporations that own the US media, while the other is being propelled towards the Democratic nomination by those same corporations.

Coronavirus has an important, urgent lesson to teach us. The question is: are we ready yet to listen?

Phase 2 of Trump’s American Autocracy Has Arrived, and It’s as Bad as Your Worst Fears | The Smirking Chimp

Lesson’s taught by Abbott/Morrison/Dutton gifted to Trump (ODT)

Do you smell something? That’s the stench of freedom dying, and it’s coming from America’s southern border, where refugee children seeking U.S. asylum as they flee murder, rape and degrading conditions in Central America have instead been tossed into a growing gulag of squalid concentration camps, created by an administration desperate to cling to four more years of power.

‘Random Murder, Rape, and Pillage’: A US Soldier Describes 1968 in Vietnam | The Nation

Brummett told Laird that his unit

did perform on a regular basis, random murder, rape and pillage upon the Vietnamese civilians in Quang Tin Province…with the full knowledge, consent and participation of our Troop Commander.… These incidents included random shelling of villages with 90mm white phosphorus rounds, machine gunning of civilians who had the misfortune to be near when we hit a mine, torture of prisoners, destroying of food and livestock of the villagers if we deemed they had an excess, and numerous burnings of villages for no apparent reason.

I asked Richard Brummett to reflect on Vietnam, the war and the country, and to tell me a little bit about the year that transformed his life and what came after it.
