And the award for the worst Liberal Party leader goes to...

“The conservative faithful would no doubt nominate any and all of the parliamentary leaders who failed to win government, so the question needs refining: Which leader of the federal Liberal Party has done the most damage to Australia?

Michael Pascoe: ‘Insult conservatism’ – yes, Murdoch can go lower

For a preview of where Sky News is heading, it’s easy to check the direction of the Murdoch format pacesetter, Fox News.

Crikey’s Bernard Keane this week detailed the Australian Communications and Media Authority’s uselessness.

On average, it takes more than nine months for ACMA to finalise an investigation on the rare occasions it attempts them.

“The recent occasion in which the ACMA did inquire into Sky News – for blatant climate denialism on Outsiders – saw the regulator commence an investigation in June 2022 about broadcasts in late 2021. It was completed in December 2022 and was not released until April this year,” reports Mr Keane.

“So, in the event that the ACMA can bring itself to investigate Sky News’ lies about the Voice, don’t expect any findings until at least late 2024, when it might finally produce a report saying it had ordered the organisation to provide more training to its presenters.”

And remember that the Murdochs’ local broadcasting venture is still catching up with the Fox News model, still looking for a local Greg Gutfeld.

Peter Dutton warned that Nauru contractor was under investigation weeks before Home Affairs Department awarded $9 million deal

Mozammil Gulamabbas Bhojani.

You don’t get to be the worst Health Minister, the worst Immigration Minister, the worst Homeland Minister unless you’re the best hard-arse shit-kicker in the LNP. Tony Abbot once got that job ready to do what others aren’t. That’s why Dutton is the current leader today as he’s currently regarded as the best of the worst. Dutton like Abbott however was never any good without  Murdoch’s donation in return for killing the ABC.

The Home Affairs Department handed a multimillion-dollar offshore detention contract to an Australian businessman just one month after federal police told then-minister Peter Dutton that the man was under investigation for bribery. Documents tabled in federal parliament reveal that the AFP’s acting commissioner told Dutton in July 2018 that Sydney-based Mozammil Bhojani was under investigation over suspected bribes to Nauruan politicians. The payments were made to secure preferential access to millions of dollars worth of phosphate for his company Radiance International.

Alan Tudge’s Robodebt RC performance akin to pulling teeth

Will Tudge go down as Australia’s worst ever appointed Minister beating Peter Dutton who was voted worst ever Health, Immigration, and Homeland Security?

And at this point, with the discussion of the onus, it is worth reflecting that a pernicious feature of the scheme is that it simply externalised the department’s work to make the government of the day – and numbers in its budget – look better and to garner favourable media coverage. Of course, the stress, heartache and effort borne by welfare recipients targeted by the program well and truly eclipsed any savings in the Government’s budget.

There was not much point in the program at all if it both failed and didn’t win the Government favourable media coverage.
