How U.S. Influence Keeps Neoliberalism Alive in Australia

Renegotiate Trade Agreements

Australia must push to renegotiate trade agreements that lock in neoliberal principles. By removing provisions like ISDS clauses, Australia can regain control over its economic policies and introduce reforms that help its citizens rather than multinational corporations.

Challenge Military Spending

Australians can call for a reduction in defence spending, especially in areas that directly help the U.S. military-industrial complex. By reallocating these funds to healthcare, education, and social services, the government can begin to address the needs of its citizens instead of prioritizing foreign military

The Americanisation of Australian politics: watching the Atlas Network – » The Australian Independent Media Network

The Atlas Network home page with crossed circle

It is no accident that the Australian “conservative” movement has transformed into an echo of the toxic American Right. Fossil fuel money and a giant international network of junktanks bear much of the blame.

The media coverage of his academic study into the influence of “think” tankssuch as the Centre for Independent Studies (CIS) and the Institute of Public Affairs (IPA) carrying Atlas strategies into the Australian civic discourse raised Atlas’s profile.

Democracy for sale: let’s stop this Americanising of our election campaigns

Democracy for sale? Some local campaigns are running into the millions of dollars.

Why should the United Australia Party be allowed to tell us it will cap interest rates at 3 per cent? In the same breath the UAP tells us Craig Kelly will be the next prime minister. Slogans, jingles, unsubstantiated claims and undeliverable promises epitomise the tsunami of mainly tacky advertising.

Reporting on Friday revealed that Facebook knowingly allowed a digital marketing firm tied to a pro-Trump group to release a series of ads purporting to be from a fake left-wing organization ahead of the 2018 midterm elections, while election officials failed to investigate the group at the time. As The Guardian reported, a right-wing marketing firm called Rally Forge ran a $5,000 ad campaign beginning just days before the 2018 election, showing ads promoting Green Party candidates in an effort to split the Democratic vote and help Republicans in several close races. The ads were purported to be placed by a group called America Progress Now and expressed support for democratic socialism.

The idea of American exceptionalism has infected Australia

Morrison always wanted evangelicals and Houston in the White House.(ODT)

There is nothing very exceptional about American exceptionalism. Many Americans merely deem themselves exceptional and demand that others do likewise. Australian exceptionalism is risible.
