It was 5:00 p.m. on July 22, 1987 in London. Cartoonist Naji al-Ali was walking towards the offices of the Arabic newspaper al-Qabas when a shot rang out. He was struck once in the throat by a lone gunman, mortally wounding him. In a hospital five weeks later, he died on August 29. At that time, he was the most famous cartoonist in the Arabic-speaking world.

“The spread of misinformation & disinformation continues to be used as a weapon in the war in Gaza,” he wrote.
Israel has campaigned for years against UNRWA, the main organisation delivering humanitarian aid to Palestinians in the occupied Palestinian territory and providing services for Palestinian refugees in other countries since 1949, claiming it has connections with “terrorists” and lobbying for its closure.
Last month, the UN denounced an Israeli government spokesperson after he described Lazzarini as a “terrorist sympathiser”.

Israel’s Hasbara Games. It first announced loudly and constantly that it would and has allowed food into Gaza, but the UN failed in distribution. Israel doesn’t broadcast the continuous evacuation orders that prevent that distribution. Then we hear Vaccines are being generously supplied, but not that health workers are being targeted and told to evacuate and people are being constantly kept on the move. Now the restriction of food and medicines is being reported again, we can expect announcements on Israel’s humanitarian generosity and the failure of NGOs again.

“This is not as much about Hamas as it is about the Israeli state’s long-term plan to eliminate, wipe Palestine off the map.”
“Even the elders of the family who have seen it all — lived through ’67, lived through the intifadas, Oslo — they’re like, ‘This is the worst it’s ever been,’” Asi said.
“People who pride themselves on being resilient and not being afraid as part of their Palestinian identity, they are genuinely afraid,” she continued. “To leave one’s house, especially if you have a son, is to have a real material fear of death. … If something happens, there’s not going to be an investigation, there’s not going to be a tribunal: It’s going to just be another statistic.”

1988 News
“As the Israelis have sought to throttle the five-month-old Palestinian uprising, they have turned to a form of arrest that they call “administrative detention” as one of their prime weapons. Until December, Israel generally held about 50 Arabs under these regulations. Now Israeli officials say the number is at least 1,700, more than one-third of the total 5,000 Palestinians currently imprisoned for alleged involvement in the revolt.”
‘The result, according to critics, including defense lawyers, human rights activists and diplomats, is an arbitrary and harsh system of secret justice that has few discernible rules or standards and that offers its victims no workable appeal. …

The complaint to the Australian Human Rights Commission, from Alon Cassuto, the CEO of the Zionist Federation of Australia, highlights just two Kostakidis retweets from January this year, both of which contain a video of a speech by Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in which he allegedly called for the ethnic cleansing of Israel.
One of the retweets is from independent British journalist Richie Medhurst, who was arrested at Heathrow airport and held for nearly 24 hours under the UK Terrorism Act this month. Medhurst is one of the most vocal critics of Israel’s war on Gaza. The other tweet is from a user named Censored Men.
Cassuto wants Kostakidis to apologise, remove the allegedly offensive materials from her X account; promise not to post similar tweets in future and pay his legal costs.
The complaint was levelled under Section 18C(1) of the Racial Discrimination Act, which says:
“it is unlawful for a person to do an act, otherwise than in private, if:
(a) the act is reasonably likely, in all the circumstances, to offend, insult, humiliate or intimidate another person or a group of people; and
(b) the act is done because of the race, colour or national or ethnic origin of the other person or of some or all of the people in the group.”

While hanging around waiting for Rommel to invade in what was then British Mandate Palestine, the AIF Sixth Division under General Blamey was inspired to hold a surf carnival in Gaza. The Palestinians are no different. Whatever “terrorism” they have committed, it pales by comparison to the monstrous crimes being committed against them with full Western complicity. The mainstream Western media may pretend the 7 October terrorist attack was the trigger, but the injustice and suffering inflicted on the Palestinians dates back three-quarters of a century.
What Albert Camus might think about Palestinian suffering and the West’s responsibility for it

Importantly, it has made me reflect on the conflict continuing today, but also to go back to where it really started… back about 120 years ago with the arrival of the modern Zionist movement in 1896 declaring Eretz Israel as a national homeland for Jews, the Balfour Declaration of 1917 to establish a ‘national home for the Jewish people’ in Palestine, encouraging the establishment of Jewish settlements in Palestine and the beginning of Kibbutz as community focussed farming and the settlement after WWII as sanctioned by the UN.
The attitude to Palestinians throughout this time, and into the UN support for the establishment of Israel has been that of colonial occupiers treating indigenous peoples as barbaric, uncivilised, less than human, even terrorists, and able to be shoved aside for the new claimants to the land, as has occurred time and again in Africa, the Americas, the Caribbean and even here in Australia.

The Israeli Defense Ministry said Monday that the US has delivered over 50,000 tons of weapons and other military equipment since the start of Israel’s genocidal campaign in Gaza, demonstrating the Biden administration’s staunch support for the slaughter.
Since October 7, 107 ships and 500 transport planes have brought US military aid shipments to Israel. The Israeli Defense Ministry said the deliveries have included “armored vehicles, munitions, ammunition, personal protection gear, and medical equipment.”
The ministry added that the US support was “crucial for sustaining the IDF’s operational capabilities during the ongoing war.”
Back in April, President Biden signed a bill into law that included $17 billion in additional military aid for Israel on top of the $3.8 billion the country receives each year. The State Department recently approved a series of major arms deals for Israel worth $20 billion, including a new fleet of F-15 fighter jets.

The history of Israeli Institutions strikes me as if this is another smokescreen and they are now trying to deflect the blame from the actions of their Government and the IDF elsewhere given the prevention of care reported by actual doctors in the field for months.
