“We are seeing a lot of these more radical, aggressive and utterly unethical campaigning techniques migrate from the US into Australia in recent times, so it’s critical that we as a nation learn from the danger of mis- and disinformation and address the need for ethical and just campaigning.”
The weapons of war; bombs, guns, land mines, and all the other ‘essentials’ are supplied by major western countries; the USA, Britain, France to mention just a few, and yes, Australia is in that list, a smaller economy, a smaller supplier, but supplier of the means of indiscriminate killing nonetheless.
US had provided about $20 Billion in weaponry to Israel and about $1 Billion in aid to Palestinians in Gaza. I imagine that proportion would be similar for other countries helping out in that war.
Recent reports of US B-2 bombers using Australian assistance to attack targets in Yemen brings into focus the increased use of Australian assets to assist US military operations, and with it a set of questions about who authorises these missions, and more importantly, who denies them.
bipartisan support exists for Washington’s Israeli genocide; they clearly have no idea about what they are doing or seem to care. It’s that they are selling out our future for nothing in lieu of any good ideas. AUKUS lies in tatters as our sudden, overcomplicated and unnecessary entanglement with Washington & leaves us with limited options moving forward. It all seems so ridiculous and unnecessary and lazy.
“the greatest Jewish figure of the time” according to I.F. Stone. Einstein’s response was unequivocal:
“When a real and final catastrophe should befall us in Palestine the first responsible for it would be the British and the second responsible for it the Terrorist organizations built up from our own ranks. I am not willing to see anybody associated with those misled and criminal people.”[2]
Zionist Response
“Einstein, as you know, is no Zionist, and I ask you not to try to make him a Zionist or to try to attach him to our organization. . . . Einstein, who leans to socialism, feels very involved with the cause of Jewish labor and Jewish workers. . . . I heard . . . that you expect Einstein to give speeches. Please be quite careful with that. Einstein . . . often says things out of naïveté which are unwelcome by us.”
It is common knowledge that when Chaim Weizmann died in 1952 the Prime Minister of Israel offered the presidency of Israel to Albert Einstein. Less well known, however, is the reason Einstein gave for this refusal: “I would have to say to the Israeli people things they would not like to hear.” Even less well known is Ben Gurion’s statement: “Tell me what to do if he says yes! I’ve had to offer him the post because it was impossible not to, but if he accepts we are in for trouble.”
Hundreds, if not thousands, of people are being accused of anti-Semitism or fired from their jobs because they dare to criticize the State of Israel, call it an apartheid state, and denounce the genocide of the Palestinians. May they rest assured: they are in good company, because if Einstein were alive today he would be in the front lines demonstrating with them.
“It was probably five or four decades ago that we helped [the Palestinians] to build these bunkers in order to enable more space for the operation of the hospital within the very limited size of this compound,” he said.
Israeli soldiers in Gaza are seemingly surprised that they are being identified through their social media posts. Some are now worrying about possible consequences.
