Australia’s Left keeps moving right
It’s a small step from Brown Shirts to Red Caps. Best not to go there. You may be able to vote in a totalitarian state, but there’s usually only one party to choose from. (Putin won 87% of the vote in the latest election held just days after Alexei Navalny, his best-known opposition figure, was found dead in prison). As always in such regimes, deaths of opposition leaders always happen “mysteriously.” So, in a system like that, you better get your ass out and vote. Or else. Trump admires regimes like Putin’s or Kim Jong Un’s.
If we’d prefer not to live under such tyranny, we must raise the alarm and then get our asses out to vote. Unless, of course, we would prefer to live in fear of bans on what we can read or what we can say. As we witness increasing restrictions on our freedoms, even our right to vote is imperiled.
Not only can fascism happen here; it is happening here.
