It belched methane into the sky over Los Angeles for 16 weeks straight until it was finally plugged on February 11. Now, a new study has confirmed what many thought was the case, that the Aliso Canyon gas well blowout was the largest methane leak in U.S. history, releasing over 90,000 tonnes (100,000 tons) of gas into the air.
